I am sick of reading the comments that say he sounds american... Seriously there is no particular voice that makes up aussie country singing. Everyone sounds different and it is his normal voice so live with it.
aussie philosophy, american accent?I love country music, but there it annoys me when we try to put on there(american) accent.Give me slim dusty any day.
It's good music, and its not a full yank accent just a twang every now and then, and yea sometimes it shits ya but country's always been about the story not the sound the guy makes when he's singing it.
who gives a shit there aussie dats or dat matters times r changing nd so is the music maybe!!!!newyas steve forde rocks seen him in concert at grenfell!!!!!!!
A few Aussie country artists are starting to sound like yanks. Adam Brand does too sometimes. Definately not the true blue sound of John Williamson. Haha
John Williamson has started making weird music ever since he started hanging around Peter Garrett. He sings about the cattle stations and droving but believes Australia should be farming roo instead.
BEING an australian i just cant get my head around an aussie singing in a yankee accent. IMAGINE if Alan jackson or Garth B started singing an american song sounding like slim dusty.. in there own country its just not right!
Yeah countryboy7474, I completely agree and also reckon that Aussies should stay true to their roots - after all, we live in the greatest bloody country on earth! BUT having said that, the name of the game for blokes like Steve Forde and Adam Brand is to sell CDs, cause thats their bread n butter. I guess we need to cut em some slack and let em do what they have the talent to do. I admire them for getting out there & goin great - they are still flyin the Aussie flag & thats what counts.
hey man im from the US and i like his sound. it doesnt bother me where he is from i just listen for the sound. granted i might not see him in concert well cuz austrailia is kinda far to go for a concert. if the sound is good thats all i need to listen to it
I have seen steve forde many times! he is a lgened and a bloody nice bloke..he n shea fisher r mad ass. n i know shea personally.. n for those who dont know him n r dissin him....dont theres better things u could be doing if ya dont liek him dont listen to him...Simple!
Why is he signing "Aussie Philosophy" with thick American twang?! It's no different to a kid from Melbourne pretending to be a L.A. rapper. The Aussie country scene needs a serious reality check.
For the same reason that Elton John doesn't sing with a pommie accent, or Tom Jones with a welsh accent, or Celine Dion with a french canadian accent, Bono with Irish accent. This "aussie accent" argument is exactly what is setting country music back by decades. check your head.
Elton John doesnt sing in front of an english flag, and Tom Jones' whole act is as a Las Vegas stage singer, ditto Celine Dion. However when you're putting yourself up as Fair Dinkum, you'd better SOUND fair dinkum, and not like you're just gunning for Nashville. Slim Dusty knew the score. This is cultural imperialism at its sneakiest.
crap on. you don't get more English than Elton John. Tom Jones is ANYTHING but vegas, and like it or not, Celine is a worldwide superstar. Do you actually think she should sing in her french Canadian accent only for her fans in Quebec? C'mon.
And you clearly don't know anything about Steve, he IS from the country, owns a farms and employs many people IN country NSW. Your attitude, shared by many is exactly what is WRONG with Aussie country music.
You sound young. As you get older, you'll realise emulating the USA isn't what its meant to be about. These are OUR songs, so why are we singing them like they're not? Aussie country music is about grass roots Australia. Don't be ashamed to sound unique. Irish folk singers & balladeers don't sing like they're from Kentucky.
But we aren't talking about folk music here, we are talking about commercial popular country music. Aussie (or ANY) country music isn't about the place, it's about the people and their experience, real experience. Steve isn't John Williamson, and he doesn't have to sound that way. It IS ironic that you are complaining about the Aussieness of a song called Aussie Philosophy isn't it?
Ironic, yes, and that's my point - he's singing Aussie Philosophy, and he doesn't sound Aussie at all. It defeats the purpose of the song. I understand if you're trying to appeal to a global market, you might use a global sound (ie. American), but if you're singing about our beloved Australia, you sound at least sound like you're one of us.
So every Aussie country singer needs to sound like Willo or Slim or Sara? C'mon.
Artists sing the way they feel comfortable. It is their art and they should be able to deliver it the way they like. I've never heard this ridiculous "sing in my accent" bullshit until I started working in Aussie country music. It's a mystery to me why the accent matters. Going back to Bono, Celine, Tom Jones, etc. They sing it the way they feel it. That's it.
Country is not Pop music here - It matters because Australians are Australian. It's no surprise why the big cities in Oz all know Dusty, Willo and Sara, but they've never heard of Steve Forde. Bush culture means a lot to every Australian, regardless of where they hail; they're looking for something authentic to our own experience. If they want to hear an American sound, they'll always head for the US country stars first, not the aussie-american singers trying to ape them.
OMG! LOve iT!!!!coulDNt bELieVE My eYES!!! LYNCH!!?? I haD A dUDe teLLIn me aT THe puB LasT NIghT YoU WeRE iN ThiS BanD..so i HAd tO Go cHEck iT OUt..awSOme jOB!! yoUVe cOMe a LOng Way mAte, cONgraTs!!!!
Country music ANYWHERE is not about "bush culture", it's about people, family, community, relationships(sometimes with a place). Once again, artists sing what they feel, they don't "ape" the american sound. Ypou may have a preference for a particular sound, but it is not for you, or anyone else to tell an artist how to express themselves.
and I dig the aussie philosophy although I have to digress that its the same everyplace in the world:)

Don't get me wrong, I love bush ballads and Australian-Country, but original country music is American and it's fair enough to sing it American.
But I do think a song about Aussies should be sung like Aussies.
