  • I'm getting one of these soon to add to my star trek display at home. This transporter is highly better than the new star trek 2009 movie version. Thanks for showing this. I really missed out on such a cool toy as a kid.

  • How do they make it work? As we all know transporter technology doesn't exist yet for real. If it did, I'm sure it would NOT make its debut in a toy but rather in some more important application.

  • @BankaiIchigo12345 I don't really know how it works but I think by mirrors. Thanks for watching!

  • lol

not very smooth but the idea of it is nice

I'm sure somebody can make one that is more convincing

an idea I have is TWO mirrors that converge on either side, "bending" the person from the middle in on himself while the light dims etc, with a motor function to eliminate shake... and no, I'm not going to invent one lol!

  • @Steph6n lol

  • awesome

  • @BoxedPchannel Thanks so much for watching!

  • I have one of these!

  • @littleyellowkite Excellent! Glad to hear it. They are very cool toys.

  • So when you transport him away, where would he be exactly, before you transport him back?

  • @Xwingpilot It's interesting how it is done because it is an optical illusion. I guess the mirrors bend the light so the figure is still there but you can no longer see it. Thanks for watching!

  • @fortiesnutcase You're welcome. Could you explain a little of specific? Just curious.

  • @Xwingpilot I'm not really sure how it works but I would imagine the mirrors inside bend the light and gives the illusion that the figure disappears. Thanks again!

  • @Xwingpilot

There is a piece of plastic in front of the figure, going at an angle. This piece of plastic has a mirror front, but is smoke transparent. When the transporter is "off", the lights behind the piece of plastic and figure light up the figure, letting you see it. When you "transport" the figure, the lights go out, and the lights in front of the piece of plastic light up, letting it reflect the wall to the side of the plastic, looking like the chamber is empty.

  • @Draknfyre Thanks so much for that intricate explanation. It is very much appreciated and you certainly explained how this fascinating toy works. Thanks again for taking the time to do this.

  • @fortiesnutcase

No problem. Google "Pepper's ghost", it's an effect that has been used in theaters for over a hundred years. This is a little different than that version, but close enuf.

  • @Draknfyre I'll definitely check it out. Thanks again!

  • I simply cannot believe I allowed myself to lose this toy ;/

  • I hope you find another one. I've lost old toys myself. Thanks for watching!

  • @mtb416 lol i have one of this

  • @DerAggressor They are such a conversation piece and always gets a wag of the head. lol

  • @mtb416 I just recently got this toy with a play bridge set for the Enterprise D xD

  • Hey I got one of these, the shuttle craft, bridge set, and engineering room.

  • Great to hear! The other ones I need to get. I'll bet they are awesome. Thanks for watching!

  • im gettin that soon

  • Glad to hear it. It's a great toy. Thanks for watching this video!

  • I had one of these as kid tore it apart, mirror setup is rather simple- fun toy.

  • Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video!

  • old star trek toys crossed my mine today so i decided to youtube this toy because i remember that i always wanted one when i was a kid. that was definately one of the coolest playsets ever, especially considering its about 15 years old.

  • Thanks so much for watching this video!

  • woah! how does that work? I want one!

  • I think ti works with mirror reflections or something like that. Hard to tell exactly how? You might find one on ebay. Thanks for watching!

  • @Dragonrider1227 It's a two-way mirror, where the transporter control is a dimmer switch for a lightbulb on one side of the mirror.

  • Thanks so much for the info on this toy. Much appreciated!

  • I remember my little brother having this, when he was into star trek. He was so fascinated with them disapearing that he gave up star trek toys and bought magic tricks instead... Now he is a magician/ illusionist... not pro of course... But its just a hobby of his, that he has been into ever since this toy came out :o)

  • Thanks so much for sharing that story about your brother. It's so cool how that toy influenced his life to become a magician. Thanks very much for watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • I had one when they first came out....unfortunately I lost it. It works by using mirrors, lighting and angles. As the light "shifts" it gives the optical illusion of disappearing. Cool collectors item.

  • Thanks so much for explaining how this toy works and for commenting on and watching this video. Very much appreciated!

  • I thought it converted the object into an energy pattern!

  • Amazing what they can do with mirrors. LOL Thanks so much for watching this video!

  • where did you get this? i want it so bad, it,ll also be good for my collection.

  • I got this years ago as part of a toy collection. It is copyright 1993 Playmates. Perhaps you can find a used one on ebay. It is a real conversation piece and I am sure you would be glad to add one to your collection. Thanks so much for watching this video!

  • thx for the info :] ill check it out on ebay

  • You're welcome. Hope you find one.

  • I had one of those.

  • here is a good question, how does it work? I watched it a few times and I guess it does something to the little window.

  • I wish I knew myself how it worked. It must be something with mirrors inside. As Spock would say, "it's fascinating!" LOL Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • That's a great piece! thanks for posting!!

  • Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • I have one of these I bought it today for 50p and it looked brand new, well the toy did at least I can't say much for the box it was in.

  • Yep, it's great toy and a real conversation piece. Thanks for watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • I love the classic series! Brighter colors and short skirts! I wonder how long you should leave batteries in before changing them on any of these battery op. toys? Any suggestions?

  • Yes, nothing like the classic sixties series. And those skirts were most impressive! As for the batteries, I've had some leakage when leaving them in the toys to long. Each toy seems to vary. Some can stay fine for years and then others can take much sooner before they start to leak and cause a mess. I usually check the batteries after a year or so and replace them at the first sign of leakage. Sometimes I just keep the batteries out of toys I don't show much or run. Thanks much!

  • What a cool toy! Check out my Star Trek video if you get a chance. It's kinda silly but does feature some vintage 60's and new toys like the Enterprise that lights up (also has sound modes).

  • Excellent video of yours. Very good Kirk impression in the video and a very cool vintage Spock mask and other Trek toys. Also, thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video!

  • I can't use mine anymore, we left batteries in it when I was a kid and they kinda.... melted. :/ brown stuff everywhere.

  • Yep, I've had that happen several times with battery-operated toys. What a mess! Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • lol I love this toy, it looks more realistic in real life, I had so many people fooled lol

  • Yes, it is one of my favorites also. People make comments about it when they stop over. Thanks so much for commenting on and watching this video. Much appreciated!

  • cool im getting this thing on ebay to compleete my stng collection and wow that looks better than i thought it would

  • Yes, everyone that comes over here remarks about that toy. It's definitely a cool STNG item. Thanks so much for commenting and for watching this video post!

  • np bud but i have a qustion my light went out on my engeinering set do you happen to know what size bulb it might take?

  • Sorry but I don't have the engineering set so I don't know what bulb it may take. Wish I could help and if I find out I will let you know. Thanks again!

  • thanks bud hey what yellow shirt is that i mean who is the action figure

  • The action figure I used in the video is ENSIGN CHEKOV from Playmates Toys made in 1998. It usually sits on a base and you press a button and the base lights up and makes the transporter sound from the tv series. Thanks again!

  • cool yeah i wish i had a captin kirk figure so i could do a episode were him and picard team up but yeah nice talking to you have a good one now

  • Facinating!

  • Sounds like something Spock would say. LOL Thanks so much for commenting and for watching this video post! Much appreciated!

  • how does it work?

  • Not really sure how it works but I think there are mirrors inside that reflect the image or something like that and then gives the illusion that the figure disappears. Thanks so much for watching this video post!
