Can you still excersise with one of these? I would imagine it very uncomfortable. I am generally very scared of the things I won't be able to do with one.
@jojomundt some do and some don't. If the ostomy is permanent, the doctors often remove the anus and rectum and sew the area shut, to keep disease from returning in that area. Now that more ostomies are temporary, they often leave the anus so the person can have the option of reconnection later on.
If you have one can you still pee? Do u feel like u need to go or does this get rid of that too? Can u get ur period when u have one!? These are serious questions, please answer!
@leolionstarr Yes you can still pee like normal. With an ileostomy you have no sensation of wanting to go to the toilet. The stoma has no nerves in it you feel nothing even if you were to pinch it. You would still be able to have a period as normal. Nothing else changes except how you poop.
@jojomundt they do have, most patients have unless it is really genetically closed. Most patients have colostomy bags because of certain conditions like cancer. So.. i guess they could still have their butt holes, with nothing passing through it.
@jojomundt Seriously? Well... for starters. Obviously they have a "butt hole". They don't close it up. Yes, you may still need to release mucus from your "butt hole" but how often is completely personal. I'm sure they can have anal sex if they wish, but that, I'm not certain. PS. People who have anal sex are at a greater risk to getting anal cancer. Just a thought.
Look up colon cancer, and everything to avoid getting it. A family member of mine got put on one unfortunately. The alternative is a very painful death, so...
A year ago my wife thought she had a bug caught from our son. Then she couldn't walk, then she suddenly started heavy anal bleeding.
She had a heavily ulcerated large intestine and had emergency surgery to save her life. They quoted 80% mortality.
Anyway, shehad her large intestine removed, now has a stoma (ileostomy) and a year later is still finding it difficult to cope. But, she's alive, our son has a mum and we're getting on with life, albeit with a little difficulty.
I had Inflammatry bowel disease and got surgery 2 weeks ago, the IBD was so bad surgery was a must..and ofcourse it was one of the worst large bowels the surgeon had seen, im a bit confused tho i dunno if i have a stoma..ostomy or a ileostomy, one of them.. i think its the ileostomy, i can get it removed in a year, it doesent help cause i got a really itchy rash under the flange
I assume you had a period of advance warning about what might happen? Believe me, it helps. X woke from surgery with it, with no warning. Huge shock to us both but it was necessary.
Think carefully about the reversal. I hear it may not make life as easy as one hopes, but it's a loooong way off yet for you. X has been advised it's not good for her due to the amount of scarring and other reasons.
i was so sick before i had my ileostomy. i couldnt even leave the house i had no energy. i couldnt even eat real food. how would you like to live like that? i love my ileostomy. the best thing is when i have to go to the bathroom i dont even have to run like normal people do i have the choice of just taking it off and putting a new one on and throwing it away.

what was wrong with u?

@Alana515 whats an ileostomy?
hondaaccourd5 2 years ago
Its like a colostomy except instead of the stoma being made of the colon, its the small intestine (ileum)
Alana515 2 years ago
@samael1981 Or better for those who would die without this procedure.
