I am saying that taxation is a constitutional prerogative of government, but subject to strict rules as in article 1 sec. 2 clause three and article 1 sec. 9 clause 4. The constitution forbids direct taxes without "apportionment". A direct tax on your labor is unconstitutional. Listen to attorney Tom Cryer explain it for you. Having to work without pay is the very definition of slavery. The tax code does not impose such a tax on U.S. citizens living and working within the 50 states of the Union.

Yes, it is a crime to imprison folks for non payment of a tax that isn't part of the law. If there was a provision of the tax code that actually imposed a tax on the labor of the working men and woman of America, then I would have paid it even if I didn't like it. I would have paid and filed. The truth is that there is no provision in the tax code that specifically and unequivocally makes U.S.citizens "liable" for a tax on their labor performed within the 50 states of the union.

If you've been paying any attention, you know that Obama voted for the first bank bailout, has supported the Fed in giving literally TRILLIONS in loans, gifts and guarantees, and is contemplating yet hundreds more billions of dollars in outright bailouts to banks like Citi and B of Am. The mortgage bailout (have you read it?) gives c.$1000-1500 to the bank directly, a similar amount to MBS holders, and up to $5,000 in direct subsidy to the homeowner -- which, of course goes right to the bank.

Within two days of Rick's Rant, most online articles had dozens to hundreds of comments , 90%+ echoing Rick's complaint about the bailouts -- ALL OF THE BAILOUTS.

This isn't at all about Rebpublicans, though they may try to co-opt this anger, but let's be clear: Obama supports, has supported, bailing out the banksters for trillions and trillions of dollars. Most of America does't.

How "non-partisan" was this rally? Is the GOP behind these things? I know there's alot of grassroots support, but has the GOP co-opted this? They're responsible for the bailouts (I'm losing count), too. This movement can gain traction only if it doesn't become a "right-wing" movement. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I didn't organize the event, but from what I observed it was non-partisan. It was just a group of very nice people who are concerned about the direction of their country. From what I heard they didn't like either party's spending practices. I didn't hear anyone talk about the GOP. I did see one guy wearing a McCain mask, but I don't think he said anything. The origin of this event was Rick Santelli's comments on CNBC that grew into this grassroots event. Cheers.

GOP wasn't behind this. I'm a homemaker and did some work behind the scenes, and the main organizer is a democrat. This was a tiny grassroots effort, done on very short notice. :) I'd say the sleeping giant that is the real America, is waking up!
