  • @Donandroz wow don't you realize their beauty? No smashing it allowed!

  • Is she cured

  • I thought you were going to toss in in the toilet. Lol.

  • :_ )

  • my brother when he was a kid picked one up and got bit. he said it really hurt! on the other hand, i grew up in ohio and my mother used to bring any she found inside the house and put them in the window sills to catch other bugs. is it any wonder i was afraidd to go to sleep at night when i knew she had just brought one in that day or the day before? i'm scared to death of them!

  • Praying mantis are so cute

  • This is disgusting

  • @SuperWiktoria2001 shut up, can't you see it's in pain!?!?

  • Awwws she is beautiful

  • its actually very adorable!:D♥

  • 00:15 "Oh hai :)"

  • When the mantis see the camera the mantis was like

YOU ! YOU THE ONE WHO MAKE MY LEG BECOME LIKE THIS !

  • well,i love everything that can kill a roach....

  • put it in the microwave for 15 seconds that should cure it.

  • @chrisw40 Your not being very funny...

  • She is so cute!!! I love her! She is as cute as one I saw one time, I found her right next to the curb I was sitting on, in a parking lot, waiting for a friend to pick me up. She was pulling repeatedly at a tall weed that was growing against the curb, like she wanted to get on it (although she couldn't have, it was too flimsy). But I pushed it down to her so she could grab it, and she was looking at me like this one was. :) It was a very cute experience.

  • it looks blind

  • i speak mantis, it was saying

"EY BRO! COME AT ME CMON!! I BITE YOUR BUTT, I BIT YOU HEAD I BITE MAN! YOU GOT NOTIN ON ME!

  • Noooooo! not the toilet!

  • Shes cute, but I would be to chicken to hold it.

  • @NyxInEluryh Shes huge for one :) It looks like shes about to lay her eggs soon too. A single mantis can lay anywhere from 50-300 eggs in specialized egg sack.

  • noo :(

  • she's adorable!

  • did she get better?

  • This is disgusting lmaooooooo i would smash this shit is i see it

  • maybe her legs were infected...?

  • Her legs should grow back when she shed her skin

  • I never thought a fucking Mantis could be this adorable.

  • Lol - She's like "What the fuck is that shiet? What the fuck is that shiet? Get that shiet out my face...No wait, I want to see it!" :)

And it's sad that she gnawed her own legs off... :(

  • when a sick praying mantis sneezes in the woods does it make a sound?

  • She is BEAUTIFUL!! I am so saddened by the fact that I so very rarely see any kind Mantis anymore! It is a very distressing sign of how poor the environment is! I have handled many when I was younger and I was never pinched they are so gentle and so docile you would never think they eat their pray ALIVE!!!

  • this is the closest description to an alien imo

  • Awwwwh she's absolutely gorgeous ^_^

  • I've been pinched by them. Can't say I've ever seen any of them bite anything other than to eat it. I've handled about a dozen. My favorite animal.

  • what a cute little face!

  • I wish mantids lived more than a few months, they're such beautiful and ADORABLE creatures in every way. Though it's just anthropomorphism, they have a real air of intelligence to them.

  • @Scythemantis ... I just saved one five minutes ago :) got in my room through an open window to get out of the rain I'm guessing. I agree, they are definitely more engaging than other insects. I think it’s the way they look at you and respond, not too fast, move at a nonthreatening pace (they don’t jet around like creepy little venomous spiders) Yup, my favorite bug! I AM A DORK. (It’s only because I'm watching it as I type, I rarely see these out here in California)

  • @Scythemantis It's probably because they're the only insects that can move their heads around.

  • @Scythemantis Actually, they live for nearly 2 years if you take care of them well

  • My poor babygirl :(

  • Next time you're filming this beauty, put the toilet seat down. Would be more appropriate ;)

  • cute :D

  • Elle est magnifique! :3

  • That's not a sick mantis, that's an amputee.

  • Thats a male, a female is brown in color and much bigger. She eats the male after mating to ensure she and her young will have the strength to survive. It might have been that this male was chewed on by the female that he was impregnating and somehow managed to get away. He may have been dieing of natural causes too. Males don't live very long, typically only about 3-4 weeks (in the fall)

  • @NasimATBird You must be a wild animal.

  • Ahah Bugs life^__^

  • She's beautiful!

  • cute :P

  • Aww it's so cute !

  • shes so cute! its sad seeing her all confused and sad :(

  • :( nooo:<

  • I think those things are the ugliest things to ever walk the Earth.

  • @Dominoes911 I thought humans r d ugliest!

  • Aww. She's cute. :)

  • it's sick because it's in captivity...You shouldn't imprison animals.They need to be free

  • @frizstyler its not an animal ... its an insect ...

  • @Svo256 Insects are animals. :P

  • @Svo256 An insect is an animal, lol.

  • they are cute and creepy at the same time

  • that is pregnent i had one that was .best thing ever .dont kill it you wont regret it unless you hate prey mantises

  • omg so cute!

  • Do you know what happened to her legs?

  • SQUISH THAT BITCH

  • its pregnant

  • awww i feel so bad for it

  • Now I know they don't bite! haha one flew into my house and I was too scared to touch it lol I got a cup and caught it with that and let it go. It was pretty small too. I feel like a weenie now lol.

  • You're so kind to take in this little girl<3

  • It is sick...nooooooooooooouuuuuuuu =(

  • he's got a parasite and will die a horrible death do the right thing and sqaush it with a jandle

  • poor girl =/

  • Awww

  • They're so cut and seem very inquisitive. I buy them every year for my garden and flowers. They are great!

  • I caught one as a kid and it leaned down and bit me. Fuck that im not touching one again.

  • in the description it said prying mantis are unlikely to bit or scratch humans. i got scratched by one and now i have bug aids

  • Awwwwwwwww

  • We found a praying mantis missing a leg sorry for your mantis

  • We found a praying mantis missing a leg

  • Aww poor kitty. Although this was 5 years ago so that mantis is probably long dead

  • awww D; It's like a little birdie <3

  • Lol it's the only insect that can move it's head around xD They're very cute!! ^_^

  • Aww poor thing

  • I have a pet Mantis and it eats a cricket in less than 15 minutes,he's a small thing probably a baby still.

  • i have found so many of these walking around outside in my lifetime... and i only find out now that they eat other insects!! lulz!!! i wouldve had one of these as a pet ages ago hahaha

  • It is really cute. If u look at it's leg in the back it is missing some of it's back leg :( poor little guy

  • IF YOU LOOK AT IT DIRECTLY IN ITS EYES IT WILL TRY TO ATTACK YOUR EYES. THATS HOW THEY KILL THEIR PRAY BY GOING FOR THE EYES.

  • stomp on the fucker

  • HE'S cute cause hes smiling at the camera

  • Praying mantis are the only bugs that don't gross me the fuck out.

  • @JerryTerrifying Its probably cuz mantis look alot more intelligent than normal bugs, they can turn their head to actually look at you. beautiful creatures

  • Quote from Larry the gay praying Mantis - "Say what you will fellas, but at least I won't being getting my head chewed off anytime soon"

  • they have always been my favorite

  • Awww D: <333

  • aww... poor thing. It was adorable :( Too bad it's a species that bites it's lovers heads off.

  • @Mephistin (you say that like it's a bad thing) jk lol ^!^

  • bugs gross me out! lol cool though

  • It looks like smart bug...

  • They look like aliens lol

  • What the fuck are you doing holding a preying mantis!?!?!?!?!

  • WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW, MANTIS?

  • they're religious =D

  • good her eyes are black to just making sure something didnt happen 2 mine what should i feed miine

  • Looks like an alien btw alien invasion has started

  • @tylerR98yt What?

  • @tylerR98yt

we are the aliens to them

  • I love praying mantis, this is so sad. I hope she's doing well.

  • how is it sick????

  • Oh wow... so pretty. The way it looks around like it's curious is really incredible.

  • I wana see it fight something!

  • so.... did you flush em'?

  • looks like she is ready to lay eggs...... and when that happens, then she dies.....

  • You know, I'm really not a fan of bugs in general, but the praying mantis is the only one that really doesn't bother me. This poor thing looked so frail :(

  • Found one in my work truck once. He was on my sun visor. Brushed him off and he flew in my truck. Couldn't find him than later it smacked me in my lower side of my back. Felt like someone flicked me relatively hard on my side.

  • These don't bite? i feel like a dick...

I saw one at a football game on the turf and picked it up with a waterbottle so I could put it in the grass. It ran up my sleeve and i freaked out and it fell off. It was fine in the end, but I was scared shitless Dx

  • shes about to drop her eggs. look at the size of her abdomen.

  • I envy you, @tokenking420. I bought many oleanders so I could have them "all over the place," but I've been disappointed at how few I've had. Where do you live?

  • theres like a sanctuary of these things at my house nests all over the place they're really cool

  • @LuckySneakz, I don't think there's any truth to them dying after they lay eggs. I kept a female Mediterranean Mantis alive from July 4, 2004 to May 2, 2005.

  • @THEARMEDLIFE, they keep in houses just fine. I like cats, unfortunately, which is a bad combination. They love curtains and ceilings.

  • @LIAR2792, they usually don't bite, but sometimes they do. If your hand is wet, it might try to drink off you and, for all I know, start chewing (I'm afraid to find out), and if you're handling it awkwardly, it may bite to defend itself. I've been nipped a few times. I like the Chinese Mantis more than the Mediterranean Mantis because they're so much less afraid of people. I have a mature female Mediterranean Mantis in my yard and she gets defensive most times I approach her.

  • studioguy55, their legs don't grow back when they moult. I once had a Mediterranean Mantis which went a few months without moulting. I thought it might be some kind of record, so I wrote to the Guinness Book of World Records, but they didn't think anyone would be interested.

  • I'm pleased to find people who like discussing my second favorite pet. I just created a Yahoo group called Praying_Mantids. Join me!

  • I have questions about their sexual behavior. Do they avoid mating with siblings? Might eggs be infertile if they do?

I also have questions about where they can survive. I live in Las Vegas, where the Mediterranean Mantis is native, but I much prefer the Chinese Mantis. Would they survive here or is it too hot and dry? Are there any places that sell egg cases of the Mediterranean Mantis?

  • It's amazing how many ways there are for a mantis to die. I fed one crickets, but it couldn't digest that stem at the end of the cricket and it died. I put one on some mint with many bees and it ate so many bees that its side split open and it died.

  • Be careful of feeding them spiders. I've had many of my babies killed by them. I took one mantis to Kiev and back from the United States. Not long after I got back, it grabbed a spider but the spider bit it and they both died.

  • Praying mantids are afraid of ants. Mealworms work well if you can't find anything else to feed them.

  • i wanna chop it in half with a machette and see what happens haha

  • well not your arm i meant hand lol

  • go to cyprus and you will see ones that are the size of your arm!!! also there are a hell of a lot of cicadas they are a pain

  • Oxbenydudexo: please do not keep them or feed them! They are an endangerd insect! Hardly any left and its against the law to keep them or kill them. They need to b where u found them or near by trees/grass/bushes and please make sure u dont tell alot of people bcuz they may want to hurt them or him!! They have there plans for the season and need nature so they can reproduce!! Thank u

  • i just caught two in my back yard 1 male 1 female i want to keep them but i dont know what type of cage or diet they need or if i should keep them separated. NEED ADVISE!

  • @0XBenydudeX0 i suggest you keep them seprate because then they will fight each other so just keep in a locked cage with no open on the top maybe make a hole also put it on ur hand its funy =] and feed them like meat ham saguages cooked

  • @Fallensniper7 REally?

I just caught one in my house. I don't have a pet, so I'm gonna keep this guy at-least a few days. But really, do they eat meat and dead things?

I thought they only caught and ate live prey...

  • @peanutbutterblah well i feed my mantis ham - sausages - spiders if ur scared of catching them then i cant do anything sorry . anyways i put him on my hand and give the ham to him just dont pick him up theres very senstive and just try raw and whats his colour

  • Comment removed

  • @peanutbutterblah uhm try feeding them crickets but when ever it cleans his/her body i think it means they want food but dont give him/her to muchit will be sort of to much and yea but then try giving him a cooked ham

  • Comment removed

  • @peanutbutterblah you said it was brown, how big is he? If he's tiny then it could be a young one and maybe needs smaller insects to eat. Also, this a bit weird look at it and try to mentally say you need to go out side in the shrubbery or else other humans will smush you. I dunno stick it in a bush or something make sure there's no other large predators living there.

  • Comment removed

  • @peanutbutterblah Coloration isn't as important. Maybe he likes his food alive so you can try catching some ants and holding them with tweezers and giving it to him that way. He could be in distress so get a well ventilated jar and put some fake plants or real if you got any then throw in like two ants or so because if he's sick I'm afraid more ants will attack him and eat him alive. Just try wiggling food pieces to see if he takes. Are you sure that it's a he and not a she?

  • Comment removed

  • @peanutbutterblah I think that coloration doesn't determine the gender. If he is eating the boil egg then it's okay but really he should be eating things natural to praying mantis such as other insects.

  • I love her.

  • Dont worry their legs grow back when they moult, Dont worry that she will not eat, they sometimes dont for upto 4 days before they shed. :) Good luck with her

  • @studioguy55

    True, however...

This is an adult specimen who will probably not molt again within Her(?) life time.

That being said, one of my own mantises, Emma, had one leg completely missing when I found her and still lived a long life. She died, probably of old age, the middle of winter two years ago. I now have three mantises, my two Chinese mantises Crinkle Cut and Set, as well as my praying mantis Morgan.

  • @ThatCrazySpiderGirl I found one on the streets yesterday and I took it home. Now It's in a jar (ventilated) and I don't know what to do next. I got a spider (which was killed while being caught) and put it inside the jar with the mantis. I want to keep the mantis alive, I will provide live food very soon(today). Any advice please ? (I'm from Indiana, if that helps identifying the species)

  • @laylaindy Crickets. Or meal worms. I just fed mine and put a video up of it. They're really cheap. My local pet store was out of crickets, but they sell meal worms too for about 50 cents a dozen. I got about 20 or so for 47 cents, though. Horray for miscounting :D

  • Aww my bf jst caught one yesterday i dnt like him too much for i is scared it bites me :/

  • I had a dream last night that I was holding a huntsman spider in my hand and I was too scared to move in case it bit me. Such a horrible, horrible dream it just went on and on.

  • i want one <3

  • @YungLoczz there are no Mantis in Kanada?

  • @darkilustrisimus thats true but if you keep a heated cagee 4 it you can order one online

  • @lagiacrus54 they are pretty common here in europe. few months ago I was on a deserted island near my town, and I saw literally hundreds of them.

  • @YungLoczz EUUUH ? why !
