wow! what a real blast from the past! I walked through Derby yesterday and hated every second of it, the bottom end is becoming a ghost town and it is shocking how un-recognisable it all is, very sad because I dont believe it is for the better! But thankyou so much for posting this, I really enjoyed seeing it :)

I was a bus driver in Sheffield in `91,and worked for a private company,up against the "big boys".

Having driven Leyland Nationals,MCW Bristols etc,i know how the drivers are feeling,and understand why they dont wave when there pics are being taken.

Simply amazing and wonderful to see....that's not an over-exaggerated, emotional response either - I really did enjoy watching that. Seeing St. Peter's Street un-pedestrianised really brought back some strong memories. I was 12 when this was filmed, and can only remember select bits, but it seems like an entire different era looking at this, thanks a lot :)

Thanks Georgia, yes you forget that St Peters street used to be a street with buses going down it. Seems to be so many buses too!

Excellent vid. The big problem is that the council is killing our heritage by knocking down our old buildings and erecting monstrosities like the quad (worst building in Derby). I have lived in Derby all my life and i love it and seeing this video reminds me of how good things use to be. Thanks for uploading.

Very interesting video. I was only 8 in 1991, but i still remember those buses and those area's pre- pedestrianisation. But for some reason i can't remember those taxis. They look like they should be from an earlier time.

I was 12/13 back then and can remember when it was like this! I have just sat with my son showing him this as he loves buses!!

I am pointing out where evrywhere is and he doesn't believe me he is only 6 though!

I rememeber nearly being knoked down at the bottom of St Peters St also!!

Blimey the street scenes may have changed, but the chaos with the buses still remain in Derby. Some of these buses are still being run by ARRIVA Midlands, but they don't know how to look after them which is a shame. I am guessing this was about the time when Derby buses retracted from running buses across to Tamworth in retaliation of Midland Red North operating in Derby as I see no Midland Red North buses. Nice Video

I don't know what it is like these days, but in 1991 there seemed to be a huge number of busses. When I grew up in Derby 1960/70's I recall always having to wait for busses.

Nice one Andy.Town looks a lot buisier in 91 than it does today.I think the CAMMS buses were on the streets in 91 during the 'bus wars' where routes were saturated as each bus company tried to pinch each others passengers.I think things got very heated between the opposing drivers from what i can remember.Nice to see some of the advertising for 'Jaspers Jeans' and 'city skins' (up near the Gaumont) i bought a leather jacket from them.I wouldnt be seen dead in a leather jacket nowadays.lol.

comedyhunter.City Skins was next to the amusement arcade or Halfords,i think. Halfords use to be on the corner then they moved to 'LegoLand' on traffic Street..... which (in days of yore)used to house Council Housing offices that looked like big portacabins ???

wow derby looked kinda different in some parts i was 6 in 1991 and i remember them blue and white taxis and the derby sketch on the buses im only 22 but still it shows how things change and time flys by great video any more of these also do you have any of the old wilmorton becuase god dammn thats changed alot

yes my next door neightbour was a taxi driver and he had 1 it use too be parked on the front.
