You are honestly comparing a 50K RED One with a 2K Canon? I agree the Red is better at 25 times the cost. Unless you are offering to pay the difference go wipe your mouth, it smells from the shit you just stepped in with that foot.
@Dwilshire7 RED One fully kitted out is only 30k. Plus now there's Scarlet-X (which I own), which is ready to shoot at about $15k. Yes, it's still much more expensive. But this video is talking about legitimate productions, where you have a much higher budget to work with. There are productions shooting with massive budgets that still choose the $150 rental over the $800 rental (causing headaches in post) because some producer doesn't have an eye for image quality.
Are both people supposed to be stupid and hated? Because that's how I feel, also you're saying 7d in the dialogue while both facts and the title say it's the 5d that was used on house.
ive shot like 30 projects on red, and like 10 on DSLR. the difference is ridiculous, trust me on that. by saying they do the "same" thing you're downgrading the quality in cinema, and the dudes right, in the long run this is going to hurt us. good news is DSLRs are just a fad and are already being faded out with cameras like the fs100 and f3, and scarlett when it comes out. back to real quality!
They're right though, i understand that yall think the 5d and 7d compare, but they dont. They're cool, but yes actually real cinematography has a lot of science and math involved, and a lot of quality differences. DSLRs are cool for what they are, but NO WHERE near pro quality. the compression is just SOOOO bad. like...when you shoot in 4k you'll understand. they are not the same. you'll never go back to DLSRs when you shoot with a real camera, trust me
Lol, this is really funny...However, obviously it's made by someone who is really mad, and feels they need to lash out by spending a whole load a time on making a point nobody is going to listen to. Honestly, DSLR's are great camera to allow others who can't afford a damn 60,000 dollar camera to express their creativity, and that shouldn't be frowned upon. In response, RED, Sony etc have come out with nice cameras like the Epic, Scarlett, and the new NEX-FS100u.
What's wrong with the 7D? It has amazing picture quality and is inexpensive compared to other cameras that do the same job. Just because it's a DSLR doesn't necessarily mean you should knock it.
I would love to see the link to audience uproar that black swan cut between 16mm film and 7d, please provide a link and i'll believe the audience will tell in the long run. If not, then your wrong, I hear b&h is having a sale, maybe you can pick up a 7d. Its because of assholes like you that cinematography is taboo, you think there is a ratio that a community college freshman cant understand, its not rocket science. Take the pedestal out of your ass before you sit on it.
Wow talk about a scared dp worrying about the changing times, with digital the role of cinematographer is easier and through animation these guys are pissing themselves. Why wont you admit that because of the 7d and 5d, the pmw f3 and af 100 exist and also thats the reason why the epix x is a dsmc.
o and P.S. dumbass black swan's night scenes were shot on 7d with a 4" led light thats all. Feature film barely any light, gonna win oscar, look out, new wave of dp's coming your way grandpa
Total misrepresentation of the argument! Nobody in their right minds thinks that a camera with lower noise at low light means you can shoot without light. The point is that cameras like the 7D, 5Dmk ii, etc., are bringing movie making closer to the amateur, therefore providing more opportunity for budding film-makers. Professionals should be encouraging this... and upping their own game.
I love your videos. There's nothing else on YouTube that makes any sense to a cinematographer. But I can relate to this -- story of my life.
