Theres actually a story for why he does it. A while back Adam was about to quit the band cuz his atheist views were conflicting with the band, but after a while him and Bono sorta bonded, and after Adam attended Bonos fathers funeral he told Bono "I'm ready" (meaning for christianity) So when Bono sings "when I go there, I go there with you" He means he is going on that religious journey with Adam.

Its actually really touching!!! Very sweet.
