well i just went back to the natural state of my hair, mainly because its actually better for your skin, there is nothing wrong with brillo pad hair, or soft curly hair, but i do find that there is a lot of backlash with our hair, our hair has many different textures, but we should not be defined by it, im in the army and there tends to be a lot of racism concerning black women being in the army and our hair, they are even trying to pass rules that say we cant have natural hair...crazy!

You're talking so much sense sis'! gotta admit i used to generalize what really was individual preferences...each and everyone of us has her/his personal opinion on beauty standards- even if some are wrongly influenced by the media- and that's great! i love my natural hair but that does not stop me from admiring relaxed hair or any type of hair on other women...just like i think that your color is da bomb!!!!!

welll.... I live in the uk and since i went natural I have never had a negative comment from a black men. Most really like it. I have had black guys come up to me and ask me why other black girls don't wear thier hair this way and that they prefer black girls with it.... soo this whole black men not liking natural hair thing maybe its more of an isuure in america. Although i'm sure there are sum black guys here in the uk that also dislike it, so far I haven't cum across one. I', 20 yrs old.
i <3 your hair! i get MORE compliments from EVERYONE on my natural hair (i usually style my hair); but i BARELY got compliments when i used to go to the salon OCCASIONALLY. i ONLY give natural hair IF ASKED b/c black women QUICKLY tell me: you got good hair (with a slightly, weird facial expression = it's like they're thinking "you are mixed with something").
@mainilla26 The only "Circle" is your lack of mental processing skills. You don't need "Facts and Figures" on a GENERAL discussion, based on Experience and Opinion. It must SUCK to be the ONLY one among the bunch who's had an issue with comprehension. It's never too late to start over, though: Hooked on Phonics, maybe?.....No? Okay.
I have been growing my dreads for 8 years. I'm coming from a place of relaxed hair. I changed simply because my relaxed hair was extremely damaged and I really like the way dreds looked. they have evolved to be extremely stylish....I then begin to look at natural hair in general.
hello...i'm natural...i decided to go natural b/c of my low self esteem...i have daughters and it's hard to teach them to love who God made when I didnt...it was my way of strippin myself down and loving who I am. now my youngest daughter and I are natural. she started because of terrible hair breakage due to lack of her grandmother taking care of her then relaxed hair. now she and I LOVE or hair..she likes being different. now that i love me i can teach her to love herself. thats why im natural
i kno this is random but ur hair looks different @ different points in the vid. 0:02 vs 0:33 but we had that discussion @skool I go to an all women college and one girl brought up the whole dumb blonde vs the burrnette or the red head and who white men tend to lean towards
My sister is natural but keeps her hair flat ironed cus its just easier for her to deal with she wears it wavy sometimes. But her bf don't care cus my sister is really pretty with curly hair or straight hair. I think its a blessing that as black people we can do soooo much to our hair than other races. Im a guy and had an Afro (just cus I wanted one) and I got complements from everybody. Most ppl were mad when I cut it off.
I went from relaxed to natural because my hair started falling out. There was a change in me because the people that thought I was attractive with long natural hair didn't give me a second look with short kinky hair. Basically I have embraced who I am inside rather than get caught up on attractiveness. Not to say I don't take care of myself because I spent years growing my natural hair and cultivating my unique look.
@Ravenpriestess I mean to say the same people who thought I looked good with long relaxed hair didn't give me a second look with short kinky hair. Just wanted to clarify it!
i love ur hair. your husband sounds like mine. BUT, he is still adjusting to my natural hair. he wants my hair back relaxed but ill nvr go bk relaxed. i started a movement in my family. every1 is going natural. i always knew i had curly hair underneath my relaxed hair and after over 10 years i decided to go natural after i cut my hair all off because it grew so fast and i ddnt want to damage it with relaxers. my hair is growing so fast. i love it! i love my curls. i get so much more attention
because there is so much hate towards kinky hair within the black community, I"ma have to go with most relaxed women being in bondages of self-hate. You don't see this with any other race concerning hair. There are so many negative words attached to having kinky hair and there is a history behind it. My family is relaxed and since I've been natural (2000) I have gotten the most hate and negativity from my own people. There has to be self hate involved for this to occur.
I wonder if the negativity about black men over black women's hair is going hand in hand with the internalized shame over their own hair. I'm asking because it seems the black guys that do go on about it are ones that keep their hair cut close and short in order to keep it "neat and presentable".
I'm an African American Man and my girlfriend has natural hair now; she was relaxed when I met her. I encouraged her to go natural because she was tired of getting relaxers. She was nervous at first about the response she would get, but I kept encouraging her to stick with it and she loves it now and so do I. I just want her to have beautiful healthy hair and she does. Natural Hair Is Beautiful!!!
Black men have actually embraced my natural hair. The number of black men that try to approach have increased dramatically. On the flip side, white and hispanic men no longer approach me at all now. This is crazy to me cause when I used to straighten my hair it was reversed but the black men are loving the natural sista.
@sdoirin Exactly. I thank God I haven't really had any negative feed back from black men about my natural hair, at least not to my knowledge. My husband LOVES my natural hair.
@unbeau2011 Thank you so much!...and as far as the big chop, I didn't do a major fade or anything, but I did cut my hair to about ear length, or a tad longer.
Hey, I just wanted to say that I have received both positive and negative comments about my natural hair from all races. When I receive the negative comments I ask them why and then why again and why again until we get to the real root of why they don't like it. Most of the time it makes them really think about why and sometimes they end of up liking my natural hair once they look deeper to why they didn't like it in the first place.
P.S. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ITS SAD TO SAY OUR MEN..(BLACK MEN) ARE HIGHER IN RANK WITH THE HATE OF HIS OWN SAAAAAAD JUST SAAAAAD WE NEED TO DO BETTER HECK WE ALL DO ALL RACES XOXOX GOD BLESS

I have encountered the negative comments about natural hair....when I first cut it my husband was kind of skeptical and shocked but now he likes to play in and run his fingers through it...HE LOVES IT!!! I love my hair and glad I made the decision to do away with relaxers...not knocking anyone who has a relaxer. We as women just need to love and embrace our own beauty whether relaxed or natural ~H-town All Day
my husband loves my natural hair...at 1st he wasnt too sure cuz my hair was really short but he loves it now...also its funny because men comment on my hair all the time and tell me they like it...i havent gotten any negative comments yet! but i kno theres alot of ppl who do judge natural hair but idc im embracing it :)
@Janaiyah88 ...and that's the attitude we need to have. I thank God that I have a husband who understands me and my hair. Now, if only I could get him to do a video with me, LOL.
whooo Lawd! I remember the whole "if your hair is color-treated it isn't natural" debate. lol I've been natural for almost 2 years and I have yet to experience any negative comments about my hair. I HAVE had people bug their eyes out at my huge afro in the grocery store, but I took it as a compliment :D
Oh and I did want to add that as a dark skinned black man ...people look at me and my hair like I'm a damn alien! People stop me all day long saying....is that a wig! Is that real! Did u just take some braids out to make it curly! Is that a jheri curl?! It's disgusting really...I dunno y people think all dark people have the sane hair :-(
@CreoleAdonis I hate that as well. They always think I'm wearing some type of wig, especially from other races. They seriously believe that black people can't grow hair. I've literally been told this.
girl my husband luv me but not this natural thing and ive been natural for 2yrs i am not perming my hair and he will never like my hair its hard but i deal with it
7:22 so true....there are more bm bashing bw than any other race. Some races I found none. It saddens me. They hate us, when I aint even do nothing to them.
What do you do in the hospital? Girl ppl say to me that I cannot wear my big natural hair working in a hospital setting.. What do u think about that? .... by the way your hair and color looks great!
@Camille89virgo Thank you so much! I'm a licensed Nuse Assistant. I currently work in the Cardiovascular ICU. As far as people's opinion on not wearing big hair in the hospital, I personally don't agree with that. As long as your hair looks neat, I don't think it should really be an issue.
i think that if someone was natural all their life but decided to go natural that no there won't be a big support group like with the natural hair community. why? because permed/straight hair is the norm for most black people. our country is so europeanized so when you look around, having straight hair is almost like it's expected. i wish all black females would embrace their natural hair.. at least see what it's like, you know? all the stigmas against natural hair need to stop
I already know the answer to the "Black men hating Black women on YT". It's a disgrace. I've gone back and forth briefly (not my style to be arguing) with a few of those men on YT. It's like their whole channel is devoted to hating us. I HAD to say something lol. I told a couple of them that Black women out number BM who grad from college. And they out # us in the prison system. YET, you don't see us making videos bashing them......smh.
thank u so much for this video. i think some black men need to realize how this may or may not affect women.but its not just the black men its the black women too.how can we expect our men to accept us when some of our relaxed sisters treat us the same way. when will the madness end.
ITA>> I never understood why "some" naturals say they went natural to get closer to their roots>>what does that mean?...lol does it mean I'm not "black enough" because I'm relaxed? what do I need to do...walk around with a bone in my nose...lol or "I found myself because I went natural?? chile..if you haven't found yourself...going natural isn't gonna help...nothing against naturals...it's just some of the things I've heard is crazy...IMO great video as always!!
