I had a dream the other day... these bears were in it.. except today is the first day I saw this video (I saw the 7 sec one b4 tho) and they were waving a lot more...
Seriously? How can someone dislike that? I think people dedicate their lives to just go in youtube and click dislike in every video they come across! its either that or that they thought it said.. "dis-I-like!" hahaha :)
all you people talking about how ingenious these bears are, they are only doing this cause they were previously show business bears and are now in these sanctuaries. If these were wild kodiak bears instead of the previously trained showbiz bears, i doubt they would stay behind a flimsy fence and give a little wave to people passing by.
Peacock: "Oh damn you run over me already, I'm so sick of these bears showing me up with their wave-able arms! I get no attention what so ever yet look how colourful I am! I swear you people don't know ART when you see it!"
Bears are smart, no one can say the bear is waiving cause trhey want food this is not true. as if this was true they would hop over or rather go through that fence to get his reward, bears ARE SMART, OTHER ANIMALS ARE SMART. IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT ANTS, FLIES AND OTHERS ACTUALLY THINK AND HAVE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS!!!! Maybe this bear is waiving cause he she knows how well they have it and maybe they are happy. WHAT LIKE BEARS CANT PICK UP ON SOCIAL CUES LIKE DOGS DO> THEY Think and FEEL
@ChainDesk4 Mammalian creatures and birds yes, but no flies and ants do not have emotions. They are an insectoid species; their brains work on instinct rather than emotional impulse so they do not have lateral thought or emotions.
Reptiles, amphibians and fish are more advanced in so far as they are low-level sentient creatures - too simple to be trained like mammals or birds and their only real emotion is fear, but this is nothing more than a hard-wired survival mechanism to avoid predators.
@ChainDesk4 ....However having said that, it's true that there are a couple of smarter exceptions in the reptile kingdom such as crocodiles and alligators. Their species has barely evolved since prehistoric times, but over those millions of years they have developed a limited amount of sentient intelligence. But like any other reptile, it's really more a case of 'survival instinct' emotions (aggression, fear) than anything else. They're not exactly philosophers.
@ChainDesk4 you have no clue. You think these bears are doing it on their own will but in fact, they were show animals that were rescued. These are rescued circus bears. They were put into this sanctuary and are under constant human care. These bears were trained to wave and what not while they were in the circus.
@ChainDesk4 Or maybe they are waving because the trainers at the Game Park are teaching them how to wave?? Go and find a wild Bear it will never wave at you. Yes Bears are smart thats why they can be trained to do things like wave to ppl.
@ChainDesk4 You're saying that ants, flies, and other arthropods have feelings and emotions? Like happiness, melancholy, and... love? Seriously? /canttelliftrollorjustincrediblystupid.jpeg
@ChainDesk4 insects only have reflexes, instincts, and fixed action responses. the lack of a cerebral cortex (only found in mammals) makes them incapable of reasoning. an altruistic ant, working for the greater good of its colony, would be incapable of jealously, sadness, and other emotions. fear and aggression are evolutionary instincts present in all creatures. bears may be smart but dont put insects on the same level as us mammals
AHAH! When I saw the peacock, I immediately thought it was a trap. She wouldn't drive because of the peacock, while the two bears were waving, another two of them were sneaking from behind the car!!
Isn't it likely that they have learned the that the behavior nets them hand outs? A car stops, they wave and people throw them food. Note the crow hanging out on the closest post right in between the potential targets of food. I think he's there to intercept any flying food. Regardless, it's cute.
they are not the happiest bears. I went there last summer and it's horrible. They were dirty and matted and looked so bored and sad, sick of their cages. At least they have more room than the poor tigers and lions and wolves. I want to raise money to build them another habitat or something.
I've read that bears appear to "wave" at other bears, etc in the wild-- I think it something about depth perception.... they have great eyesight, so they can see a great distance and the waving is the bear basically 'pawing the air' as if to grab the ground near the subject and pull it towards themselves. The paper I was reading put it much more eloquently, but I thought it was cool. Check out the move 'The Bear' from the early 90's wherein the film makers caught this same behavior.
They're saying "Hey, let's go eat those chicks." and as they raise their paws, they remember what touching that fence feels like.
