I take the train from Waterbury to Southport everyday, but I occasionally go to Katonah or Goldens Bridge as well. The difference between the New haven line and Harlem line trains is astounding.
connecticut uses over head cable wires...and the hudson and harlem use the 3rd rail on the ground.....when i see the trains.i dont see how the 3rd rail connects to the train...i always wondered if the power went into the wood and onto the tracks allowing the train to recieve it......LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS BOUT IT
there is a contact shoe attached to the trucks, if your ever in new york city and ride the subway. Look at the trucks on the trains on the express track on the route opposite of yours and you'll see them.
the third rail on the Hudson and Harlem lines is elevated. It hangs about 8 or so inches above ground, and has an insulating cover. The third rail ends short of the grade crossing on either side. Each car has I think two shoes on each side to connect to the third rail, allowing the train to bridge the third rail gaps.

rangers, the third rail has the trains run shoes along the rail to conduct electricity to power the train.

You can see the third rail emerge from behind the train at the very end of the video.

Only NYC MTA has coverboards. Connecticut law forbids third rail

Think martha stewart is on that train? She moved to Katonah.

Doubtful. She probably has a driver to bring her to NYC.
