Johnathan Edwards is an awesome singer. Like seeing him with Kenny White on the keys too. I sat in with him at the Lone Star in New York and got to play Shanty with him and me on piano. Brought the house down. Great memories.
We have been married 40+ years now and I have wondered the same thing! I love Johnathn's music, always have! Looking for a good copy of Give us a Song sweet Jesus.....anyone know where to grt it?
I first saw this guy when I was 15 years old in 1972 at the City Hall in Portland Maine, I just saw him last night here in Portland and the guy is better than ever. This guys one of the all time best, too bad he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
This is an amazing performance. What tone and elegance and beauty. I'm buying everything this man has ever laid down. Jonathan - if you read this, please reach me via youtube. So goooooodddd...
I love this guy....but could someone please get him on the "Extreme Makeover" show.lmao....pink pants and a faded grey t shirt! Must not be married..lol
twin brother you are exactly right. I'm learning this today and playing until my fingers bleed. So powerful. Why doesn't youtube have a repeat button.
Thanks for posting. I bought his albums years ago...my fav if I recall was "King of Hearts". If you haven't heard it, go find it. It is awesome. I hope he is back performing and comes to California. kat
i have never seen are heard of this guy before who is he? I know that may sound like a dumb qustion, but mabey you can tell me of some hit he may of had....he kinda reminds me of gorden lightfoot of whom iam a huge fan.
Jonathan was kind enough to stop by at this fundraiser for Marty when he heard about her serious condtion. He was actually scheduled for a concert at the Lebanon, NH Opera House that evening.
In '06, Marty Laymen-Mendonca was in Scotland, on vacation, and beaten near to death by a recently out of jail woman-beater. She may be dead by now, she still could be in a coma,or she could be fine. I suspect Marty taught at this school, as this is a concert for her.
So _what_ if Johnathan's at a high school. At least he's there for her......
@gps100proof: You are lucky Jonathan, I named my first boy Kelly, after a friend and the dumb ass nurse changed his birth certificate from male to female. Texas redneck stupid, personified. We fixed it, but goddamn it was redneck stupid.
the name of the song is where did we go right i asked the man himself in ann arbor on saturday it is on the natural thing album what an amazing show he signed cds after the show!!!!!!
Man! This man has always had an amazing voice, emotionally moving songs and total sincerity in his delivery..it just does NOT get any better than this!
On a double-date, back in '79, or '80, I saw Johnathan at a small blues bar. It was just him on the guitar, and the audience sat at tables. We were at a front table, and had a great time! It's a favorite memory of mine. Man, He looks a lot different now, but then, don't we all! :c)
After all these years, so wonderful to listen to Jonathan Edwards again. Back in '74, old friend Marla had this album, in the hills outside of San Jose, and just kept playing the Jonathan Edwards album, drinking tea and munching on toast with honey, and loving the music. Thank you for this post, and thank you Mr. Edwards! -A fan from long ago.
In my opinion Johnathan Edwards is one America's finest musicians. Isn't it funny that you can see him here playing in a high school gym when he could be on stage in front of 10,000 people if he only compromised and played mediocre, top 40 music instead of heartfelt folk?
Jonathan this is just so good, only few can understand, god love ya.

This man is a real man in a world full of posers. Like your dad, if you have a good dad and not a poser. You can learn from him either way.

Could he think he's any more precious, or be more full of himself? So pleased that these self-obsessed Boomers are dying off...

@pnb1130 yeah, you'll grow up and let go of your hate someday when you are old. If you are as lucky as we are, don't bet on it though, I don't.

isn't it funny how relevant the music of the sixties is today? miley and the rest have NO FREAKING CLUE what music is!!

Song's actually only called "Sunshine."
And as far as music goes, I rarely listen to music newer than -95; some things really were better back in the days.

BUT, "Shanty" appeals to people's baser instincts.
I don't really feel that I'm among my kind when he performs it.
