I had no idea it was so complicated in the US. I'm moving to a uni in Scotland in September...a 40 page student loan application. But upside is you only have to pay back after earning a certain amout.

For poor people, student loans aren't quite this complicated, and many of the things she mentioned coming in the mail aren't student loans, but rather honors societies and such. Most students just fill out an online application through the federal government every year, and everything goes through for us from FAFSA. What we owe in loans after graduation is through the roof, though.
Hey! Student loans cause a whole heap of problems! I'm from New Zealand and we have a very different system here where the government actually gives you interest-free loans for uni. The only problem is that it is basically bankrupting the country and a lot of people take more money than they should!
