Hey is this good at picking up gold or jewelery and stuff? cause im gonna be buying my first metal detector but i dont know which one to go with. Please help if you can
.. yes what a 'curious ' silly law in England , specially made from centuries ago to make their queens or kings even more rich .. It is some kind of naivity of the British people which really surprise me. . with stupidity they think they are doing the right thing or a good deal of money when the governement is just stealing from their hands.
@m00ngaz3r75 It is declared treasure trove or belonging to the crown, if a hoard of gold or silver, jewels etc is found. The finder gets full market value of the find .
This is a safe way of, lets say ensuring everyone is happy, The finder gets his reward or full value of the find, & the crown or government are also happy, because any significant historical finds get to stay in the country and are displayed in museums. Otherwise it would all be sold quietly on the black market!.
@4KinnelFire - Exhilarating to see how these laws were made for the economic advantage of the government but with respect for the royal family and government , this law still does not seem fair. We should not forget that during Victorian times British archeologists were sent by the royal family and the British government to steal precious objets from other countries without respect. I agree that it is nice to see these objets at the museum but why only there ? a different point of view.
I collect antiques, i have a sincere interest on history , i read many books, i buy antiques, i go to real auctions when i can, not only for buying but for learning ,i also purchased a metal detector recently, my honest opinion ? I think like a collector with interest on history not in a material way for making money , if i was him , I would not say a word to anyone just to my husband i think, I would not sell my finds or treasure ! public museums are already enough full of treasures :-)
in norway if we find anything the goverment takes it and all the people hired needed for digging and the whole bill is left on the owner of the land, who noteably doesnt get a penny for finding it.. so in norway everyone who finds digs over it and hides it or melts it, else your basicly screwed
This is recorded as Treasure Trove and after it has been reported to the Coroner and an inquest held the hoard is valued. the finder/landowner are fully rewarded and the history recorded and protected. It's a win win for all involved.
The value is in the objects, not in the gold content. Epic fail to melt it down and get a fraction of what you would get from the Govt. The finder and land owner got to share something like 3.5 million GBP for this find. 4.5 kilos of pure gold is less than 100,000 GBP (and I'm guessing the gold here was not pure) so sure, melt it down losers.
thats why you hunt in america , you find it you keep it.
There was a boy in poland who was selling some WWII item on an auction , he was arrested and massively fined for selling Historic artifacts. aint that a bitch ! Thats why you always say you got it from your grandmother......NEVER say you found it.
afertyus1000, your comment is so rude.. would it really matter if the guy that found the gold was disabled, even if he craweled or was carried, he has the right to pride, I really apprecate the fact he was allowed the money and the title in history books for the find ..and the farm may end up being worth alot of money once they figure out how the stuff got there.. perhaps its an old home place to someone very important in history .. its a truely nice find.. I wish I could get so lucky ..
afertyus1000, Why apprecation.. because it shows possibilities, and it gives honor to the finder, without stealing his thunder.. his find showed the world what could of been hidden forever, and it helps other people with metal detectors get permission to look around..many people would say no especially public parks and many private lands .. thanks for luck offering, Sorry I nipped at your heels, may luck find its way in your path ..
thinkladythink, well going by your first post i was led to believe the 'appreciation' meant that it was 'deigned' that he was allowed to keep the money,it seems to me cut and dried that he SHOULD keep the money and does'nt need any 'appreciation' form any source as it is rightfully his find and no-one elses, there are obviously many other finds waiting to be discovered on private lands and who said he had permission?
afertyus1000, @:35, found it on a friends farm then spent 5 days looking, apparently the friend knew, he didn't run him off and why would others not apprecate his find, have you never saw anything you apprecated just because of its beauty etc, the guy could of hid the items.or sold them on the internet, yet he shared with the world & was lucky enough to recieve pay for the farmer& himself, the find deserves apprecation He shared with his friend, why would anyone be a scrooge about it ?
afertyus1000, I have never been out of the Southern part of the USA, I have no idea what other countries allow, it could of been taken by the goverment, the land owner could of run the guy off and claimed the stuff for himself... yet neither happened .. the Queen and the land Owner allowed the Finder reconition and he will be a part of a History & Money reward, The whole process seems Respectful to me, that is why I made the comment, I didn't realize the comment would be confusing..
thats what i'm saying,in this capitalist system we have today now in the world only the winners are landowners and people with wealth who win,the ordinary folk on benefits etc are told to 'appreciate ' any good fortune that comes their way and in the media touted as is they were the lowest of the low before!
if you watch other news reports of this they speak of him as on benefits, disabled etc in a disparaging way and somehow detract from the important find
Since 1995 the law states that anything found more than 300 years old or containing more than 10% precious metal be deemed "treasure" and automatically belongs to the Queen i.e. the state so that it will never leave the the country. The law further states that the artifact shall be given a fair value by an independed evaluator and this amount shall be paid by museums to the finder and the owner of the property on which it was found. So everyone wins and it is in the best insterests of the finder
to report the find to local authorities so that a proper archaelogical excavation can be performed as there is often more to be discovered by the situation of the artifact in the soil and in relation to other artifacts as there is in the artifact itself. So everyone wins - the finder, the land owner, science and the people of the nation who will be able to see the artifacts in a museum. No chance or reason fo the artifacts ending up in private hands or being melted down for scrap.

it was sarcasm! i don't appreciate he was allowed the money though,it is his right to be paid it's worth. why appreciation?
