This guy is on a snare and a ride, flailing around like he's playing an entire kit furiously, but it sounds like a mouse back there. About the only thing going for this guy is he keeps the time, but even my 5 year old niece can do that. If you think this guy is good, I'd really hate to hear what you think is bad.

The guy looks like he enjoys playing more than almost anyone when he's "flailing around" and that means alot. I'll freely admit that i'm no expert. I don't think the guy's amazing (Thomas Pridgen..that guy's amazing) but i think he's pretty bad ass.

As a Musician you have to play through your anxiety's. Embrace the minor little fuck ups and make them work, that's a good musician. Someone that can make something out of nothing. This is Deerhoof to me. That is good music. Technically there is nothing set in stone with music. Music is constantly changing and you should be with it.

As a drummer, there's only 2 options as far this drummer goes. He's either insane....or he's INSANE.

The key to knowing if the drummer is in time? Is not if he goes off time with the fill...it's wether or not he brings it back...look at his movements at 1:34. There is no fear that he won't hit the beat properly...NONE...therefore it is intentional...therefore he knows what he's doing and is just making up for the fact that there are no toms or cymbals with his crazy off timing. BAD ASS DRUMMER

To the folks arguing about whether this performance (and others) by Deerhoof is disjointed or not, I agree with both of you to a certain extent.

I love Deerhoof, and everyone in that band is unbelievably talented. That said, while most of their live performances kill, they do misfire sometimes when they start improving a little. You can listen to the tempo shift around a bit, especially towards the beginning of the song. This particular performance IS a little disjointed. But I still love them.
