This game was awesome. I loved the pedestrian that would yell "give me your wallet", and the other one that would yell "piece of shit". I had hours of fun with this game. Anyone who says this game sucks does not deserve to play any of the newer GTA's. This game put Rockstar on the map and made them the company they are today.

@Mriceman7 yeah i checked it out but sadly no one wuz online so i had 2 just play on solo mode but itz still an enjoyable game and i love the announcer dude in the 2nd game and i love the cheatcodes also

No offence, but you were only 7 in 1997. I don't think a 7 year old could have appreciated this game at the time.

My friend and I used to play this on-line back in 1998... so yes it does have multiplayer support.

I never thought the graphics or sound were that great back in '97 - but that wasn't what this game was about. I always thought that the people roaming the streets looked like lemmings from Lemmings (the video game)... but I didn't care.

Absolutely Loved this game when it came out, thought i was so hardcore playing it because of its graphics and violent nature.

I was only 11 when it came out.

At the time i used to play it for hours on end, now its GTA4 which is just EPIC compared to this.

I wonder what the next one will be like?

I doubt tilting the camera would have made it more processor intensive, and of all thing things done to make a game, tilting a camera would be rather simple in this case.

Besides, if it was tilted, the buildings would get in the way of your view more often.

@MckenzieDave You know whats funny, I was with my uncle in Best Buy back in the day looking at PS1 games and I picked up GTA to look at it. I asked my uncle if he played it and he said it was awesome. He said "they swear and shit" and I was immediately sold and I bought it. I never regretted it. I have been a GTA junkie since the very beginning.

GTA I had multiplayer. I remember playing alot of multiplayer trough LAN. And come on you cant really pick on the graphics. It is 97 year game. It was the first of its kind and you could not give player some perspective view. It had to be top down 2D because the technology was not so advanced at this time. It took a lot of cpu power to play that big 2D world.
