It's kind of a learned thing, with me it's all about eye contact, when a girls gay there's just something different about the way they look at you, they hold your gaze a little longer than normal or they'll smile at you in a way that you just know is different. Gaydar takes time :)

TO ANSWER your question: it helps if you are not in the closet. If you are openly gay and your friends know it helps trust me. Girls who are bi or gay will spot you more easily and may even come up to you. Another way to tell is how she looks at you and how she smiles at you there is a difference especially if every time you two make eye contact she smiles and don't forget to smile back lol. TO ANSWER your question: it helps if you are not in the closet. If you are openly gay and your friends know it helps trust me. Girls who are bi or gay will spot you more easily and may even come up to you. Another way to tell is how she looks at you and how she smiles at you there is a difference especially if every time you two make eye contact she smiles and don't forget to smile back lol.
