  • good thing i saw this, this is really funny. i wish this humor would still be in american shows now a days.

  • I like how the woman only gets to speak in muted trumpet.

  • mel blanc was the truth

  • As a Music Video, this is one of the earliest? (Audio is famous, later a video is made for it)

  • I drank to this

  • Whoa......This was the best thing i could have watched while buzzing :)

  • Mel Blank was awesome!

  • Great video and it's nice to see a young Mel Blanc as the vocalist.

  • vocal by Mel Blanc, the voice of many legendary cartoon characters (including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety and Sylvester, Yosemite Sam, and Barney Rubble).

  • Haha 1:19 Mel Blanc XD

  • I wish I could do that with my tie.

  • mel blanc did the voice of such well-known characters as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote, Woody Woodpecker, Barney Rubble, Mr. Spacely, Speed Buggy, Captain Caveman, Heathcliff, Speedy Gonzales he was a amazing guy

  • These videos are such treasures - so good they aren't lost in the archives of history.

  • lawl

  • Willoughby.... next stop Willoughby...

Great to see some Spike Jones that I didn't know and great to see Mel in there as well. Thanks!

  • these were like the first music videos way before there was ever an mtv

  • I have got the original version of Riders in the sky on an old 78 record, if interested, let me know

  • Mel recreated his "inebriated" vocal from Spike's original January 1942 recording of the song, and did it again on a March 1943 AFRS "COMMAND PERFORMANCE" radio appearance by Spike and his City Slickers.

  • Now we know what Sylvester sounds like after he's drunk at 1:19.

  • Fabulous fun! My hubby is learning this tune to play on a ukulele as I type this. Cool!

  • Nothing like this these days! Spike was a one-off genius.

  • Good old Spike Jones:):):) Only SPIKE knew how to butcher a songs lyrics!!!!!! and have you laugh'in till ya had tears coming out your eyes and your gut ached.

  • OMG Just when you think they must have run out of routines along comes another one!!!!!ROFLOL !!!!!!! Hahahahaha!!!!!! TenStarsplus !!!!!!!!

  • Was that Eddie Peabody on the banjo or someone doing an imitation of him?

  • The banjoist is Luther 'Red' Roundtree, although the banjoist you hear is Perry Botkin!

  • is that mel blanc in this video using the voice made famous as sylvester the cat in the warner brothers cartoon classics?

  • Yes, that's Mel. He recorded the song with Spike and subsequently appeared in this Soundie as well.

  • @leicafool Yes, that's Mel.

  • isnt that mel "Sylvester" blanc in this video too?

  • Loved it, thanks for sharing.

  • may the sauce be with you.

  • Lee Cole is the Saxmaster!!!

  • heh heh, this is a good one

  • With Mel Blanc... GREAT SONG! GENIOUS!

  • I have 4 disks of him

  • I always crack up at the voice of a drunk daffy duck!

  • Is this the first kareoke?

  • Worth every drop!

  • This song reminds me of my classmate Chris

So this is what bartenders do.... LOL

    Aloha from Hawaii,

    Thomas

Can anyone tell what meter this performed in ?

  • there's a REAL parody artist. Makes Weird Al look like BITCH

  • They should've used Mel Blanc more often he kind of blends in with the band with this song.

  • I'm not a musician, but my colleague who is points out how terrific these musicians were!

  • i love how they can lean and make those sounds like hiccups.

  • Is this what happens if bob clampett did a music video? =P

  • Mel blancs part 1:22

  • what else are there to do???

  • Music videos were just as surreal then as they are now, apparently.

  • whos mel blanc here???

  • Mel is the singing drunk with the mustache(he's holding the beer stein). Mel also provided his own vocals.

  • thanks,he's hilarious,this vid looks like a cartoon,only that....without the drawings hahaha,spike was a master

  • spike was also an accomplished n.b.c. studio percussionist before he decided to go into his comedy career with his great band. r.i.p. spike, you were one of a kind.

  • Actress Sigourney Weaver's uncle played with Spike Jones; "Doodles Weaver"

  • Wait a sec..."Doodles is her Uncle?" Oh, right on!!

  • Can you post "Der Fuehrer's Face?"

  • Is it just me or did Mel Blanc in that video sound like Daffy Duck? Because when I heard him he sounded just like Daffy Duck!

  • Actually, Mel Blanc's real voice was Sylvester without the lisp.

  • Is the banjo player 'Red Buttons', the comedian?

  • no but he looks a lot like him.

  • The banjo player in the picture in Red Rountree (later to perform with the Banjo Kings). But the soundtrack actually features guitarist Perry Botkin, Sr.

  • Yes, Spike is the "bartender" here.

  • Mel originally delivered his "inebriated" vocal in Spike's original January 1942 Victor recording of "Clink, Clink, Clink", and was also featured in this "Soundie"- one of his first "live" appearances on film...

  • was it spike jones behind the bar? lawl

  • Daffy Duck on the Juice...Brill

  • Hey Thats Eddie Peabody!

  • Does it really cut off there or did you not submit all of it?

  • That's how it actually concludes. This is one of the Soundies that was reissued to the home-movie market by Official Films, so what's missing is the original opening title and a "The End" title. Songwise, however, it's complete.

  • Spike Jones is a amusing music one of the best in the whole world. Don you remember the presetation in the past century ?

  • Tis the great Mel Blanc

  • sting: Thanks for the confirmation! Would ya happen to know whether he dubbed himself or that they recorded him while they were shooting. That's what threw me off, it sounds almost like dubbing.

  • That is really a young Mel Blanc in the video.

  • stinger: It's a shame that there aren't looney tunes anymore. Course it wouldn't be the same w/o people like Blanc or Jones.

  • Looks like him!

  • Loyal: Well I can't tell 'cause the only pictures I've seen of him are when he would've been much older. 'Ehhh . . . could be!'

  • Was that actually Mel Blanc or just his voice?
