nice vids on the Emac, I found them after i was asked to look at a old emac that a couple of friends obtained for a project. needless to say, its always nice to see what others have done with this hardware since its release. I would like to specific comment on this for information to others. related to soldering and surface mount components. some boards are tight and sometimes hard to work on. if i was to attempt this, i would recomend having some way to work on the board from directly above it.
@murraykj709 Yes, absolutely. In fact, if you have one of those giant 1990's lamp magnifying glasses, I would highly recommend using it. Also, use a very fine-tipped iron. It really pays off.
I have done this on mine, but overcloked from 1ghz to 1,4ghz. Tried several stress tests and its fine. It only helps if running Leopard, to be honest.
@topflames WTF bro? Research your shit. eMac was short for "education-mac" and is its own unique computer. They did make computers more than 5 years ago...
@WyattSmits not everyone in the world is a apple fan boy and knows everything about them now stop trolling in learned what it was after the first reply comment "5 months ago"
I've got an ATI 800 MHz (dinosaur xD) eMac. I need to swap out the hard drive because it has problems booting from it. Strangely enough if it does boot (1 in 30 chance) it works until I reboot. Its fine booting from my flash drive with my OS X install dvd. How do I access the hard drive so I can replace it?
@awesomecolton Chea, click on the link to my channel. Under my videos, I have one about changing out the Hard Drive. I would post a link, but the new youtube sucks and keeps thinking my link as spam
nice video man i never knew you can overclock a mac i have a emac 2nd gen man the area is small i used a led light and soldered on a 45 degree angle i went for the 1.2ghz solder works fantastic
I just did a similar Overlock on my mac without solder. it took me about 5 minutes including disassembly cuz I just flicked off the middle two resistors (I know they don't actually resist) with a stanley knife to upgrade to 1.27. Obviously there's loaaaaaads more risk to your motherboard though. Thanks for the video guy! I really didn't fancy the amount of disassembly required in the article.
You should have used imovie to edit this video. I plan on replacing the hard drive on my emac, but it is such a pain to get to. The optical drive seems easy enough to replace.
Thanks for the video, I gathered enough braveness to start disassebling y eMac (1 GHz) and managed to overclock it to 1.4 GHz. So far so good, still not able to play a Youtube video, but it's definitely faster :)
