  • We bought the Jaguar back when it first came out. Specifically because of this game. I was addicted. I'm going to buy another one really soon. :)

  • im 16 , my dad bought me this when i was 4 but unfortunatelly my atari doesnt work any more ://////// AND I STILL WANNA PLAYYYYY!!!!!!

  • kind of reminds me of juno nemisis (a mking game)

  • i will agree and say that this is indeed the BEST game for the Atari Jaguar. it is the literal diamond in the rough.

a techno colourful diamond amongst a pile of shitty drab junk.

  • What's the point of this game? Why all the hype? It looks boring as shit.

  • @bindoggus

Just gives you a big adrenaline rush, trust me it's funner to play then it is to watch.

  • I still own an Atari Jaguar and this game

  • dear, please tell me how, to use a pc, to start the game, to simulate the original arcade, the original arcade there wasn´t the windows xp when start the machine, how to to in this case, what emulator are you using? so thakns if you can help me, cause i want to do as the original cabinet

  • I want this game as an iPhone app... :O

  • The BEST game on the Jaguar. Mad soundtrack. I'm glad I got a copy of the game

  • i'd like to see this on the ipad

  • this game like polybius

  • Jeff Minter...... LEGEND!!

  • Combine this with Red Zone

  • This game looks freakin' sweet!

  • loved the soundtrack on this proper hardcore

  • this game is overrated

  • @poncho828

    I pitty you

  • Anyone want a Tempest 4000 for PS3 or XBOX360?

  • @SniperStorm7

    HECK YEAH!!!

  • in russia, thing in space shoots you.

  • One thing is certain: the old Atari version of Tempest is HARD AS F&*@, This seems a little easier for sure.

  • Initiating rotary attack!!!!!

sorry I just had to make that reference

  • YES

  • dat soundtrack

  • This is serious business...

  • Pretty Cool, but I prefer the Saturn version. Better Soundtrack, Controls, and Framerate.

  • @peanutbuttergibbons better soundtrack? actually the better soundtrack is in the jaguar, but i guess is just a matter of taste

  • @vakama94 Meh, the sound rate is defiantly higher. As far as the controller goes, its defiantly easier to play it using the Saturn Virtua Stick.

  • Tiene algo del polybius, no?

  • Super Zapper recharge ...... :-D

  • Really awesome game, just one problem, it's on the jaguar.

  • @Dgamer21 Theres actually a Saturn, PSX and PC versions too.

  • the atari sign almost sounds like pokemon

  • awesome music but i cant find it on limewire

  • EXCELLENT.... EXCELLENT.... EXCELLENT...... YES...... YES........... PLAY............ PLAY............

there is wiiware little game just like this. can't remember what it was i downloaded it n deleted it as it wasn't too in depth of a game.

  • Why couldn't the same sound effects here like the particle laser also be in other ports?

  • The Atari Jaguar's capabilities at its prime.

  • Excellent!

  • Those menu voices sound like they are having orgasms.

  • Without a doubt, the greatest shooter EVER.

  • Oh damn, I just nostalgia'd.

I so remember playing this the first time at night when I was 13 on my Jaguar in 1994, I thought it was the damn shiznitt. I was like "Atari, F**k Yeah!"

  • A joint and a bag of shrooms please

  • OH MY GOD POLYBIUS NO NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • not as good as AvP but still rates as 2nd best game on the console

  • i played an older game like this but you was a spaceship ant the guys flyon the screen like in galaga what game was it

  • @nibelung34343 Gyruss?

  • i wish i had one of those

  • love my Jag and Temp2000

  • This was an outstanding game!

  • Best tempest game ever

  • Best Jaguar game hands down

  • one of the top Jaguar games!!!!!

  • considering the fact jaguar didnt even have that many good games...IM WITH YA :3

  • This makes me wonder why the color quadrascan was ever bothered with.

The Jaguar version is a quantum leap.

  • If only all Jag games pushed the console as hard as this :(

    ROOOAAAAR!!!......."have you played Atari today?"

  • I agree, but from my understanding, and research, the Jaguar was damn hard to program for, So most games never took full use of the system, similar thing happened with the Sega Saturn, neither company gave great 3rd party developer support for either system as well.

  • @clays121 not to mention its CD attachment didn't work at all.

  • @IotoAncor Yep just ask James Rolfe aka The AVGN, he spent over $400 on 3 of them trying to get a working one, then sent it to a friend who designed the Nintoaster, who then tried to hardwire the CD drives to his Jaguar, and even installed a new laser, and still could not get the damn thing to work. Who ever designed it, needs a pitchfork up the ASS!!!

  • yeah, i'm keeping my jag, just to play tempest 2k occasionally. to watchers who haven't played it, once u do play it, it just draws u in, addictive and simple, but nice gameplay.

Anyone should go and try the lastest version of Typhoon 2001 - its superb, the best "tempest" since the jag one, modern visuals and same addictive play, that many of the other ports and versions never really got hang of.

  • I've just made a rotary controller to play this. Damn this game rocks!

  • Anyone getting Rez flashbacks?

  • *sigh* good ol' atari. Tempest 200 is one of those games that say that graphics doesn't matter. (if you remember AVGN say that)

  • Damn, i start the video and take a look at the game screen first thing i think is, this doesn't look too promising.

then the game starts and i hear the music

    suddenly cum everywhere

  • damn right.

  • Can someone answer a question? The cover of this game shows a red monster thing, is that monster really in the game?

  • No, but there IS a yellow head of a monster that looks the same as the red one. I have a jaguar. :D

  • They should put this in the next GTA game as an arcade game.

  • @MadDawg010

They should hurry up and put this on WiiWare....ASAP please.

  • I love the arcade never played this

  • There is a FREE re-make of this game that really updates the graphics.

It has some SERIOUS graphics overload, real deal epylepsy, but its very good.

Only thing is he cocked up the bonus levels which now require 42 powerups to get to.

Bloody stupid but the main game is WONDERFUL.

    'Typhoon 2001' is the name.

  • This game is full of fun! Play it!

Project Tempest game is Not as good as the original Tempest for Atari Jaguar.

I never passed the "fly zone"

  • LOL WUT? Project Tempest is a Jaguar emulator, so it runs Tempest 2000 for Jaguar just fine.

  • I played the original Jaguar version (with better graphics than the Project Tempest). Maybe... ... is just a problem with my computer.

  • Grab yourself ' TYPHOON 2001'.

    Its free!

  • God, this game is trippy...

  • YES!

  • dang good memories.

  • I just sold my jaguar yesterday for £50, had'nt played on it for years, may have to rebuy one just for this great game

    5*

  • You can emulate it with Project Tempest.

  • is there a "project tempest" for psp? i have a 1:50 "fat" psp. i would love to run this game on it!

  • Unfortunately not. There is a port of Virtual Jaguar, but it's very slow.

  • The music is pretty damm awesome for an Atari Jaguar game.

  • My Brother loves this Game sooo much and Plays it nowdays ! I like the music ^^ !

  • I wish Space Giraffe played as well as this.

  • Woops wrong game!

  • "Where did you learn to fly?" LOL!

  • if u want this game for pc but its a remake download "typhoon 2001" its got the same music and its got better graphics

  • trippy!

  • ooooooooooooo the lost hours oooooooooo. I want to be a kid again!!! :__(

  • I owned a Jaguar and mastered this game. Believe me it gets intense and seriously hard. The music is fucking killer. Really fun parts are the bonus stages. Guiding your little V through a nebula cloud following arrows and gates. Its crazy.

  • which song is this

  • I'm watching this video whilst wearing headphones and the stereo sound is quite amazing.

  • I hope Nintendo start selling Atari games from the home consoles on the Wii shop channel! I really hope they do!

  • No offense but I was hoping to gain some strategy watching this. I can get over 400K routinely and hit 500K once. All I can say is that this is most certainly a beginner playing this.

  • this has kickass music

  • I remember getting my Jag for $19.99 brand new on the clearance rack at KB Toys. Picked up about a dozen games for $4.99 each as well.

Now they sell for quite a bit and alot new in box. Wish I'd of bought up every one in the store and sat on them for later sale.

Awful console with a few good games, but for some reason, I love playing mine.

  • the console overall was garbage but this game was like gold

  • i love it when it says play

  • So do I damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SWEET you can get this on your iphone

  • My brothers rolling his eyes at me because I'm still playing this, whilst my brothers CoD4 on his XBOX.

Does CoD4 ever have kickass music? No it does not,

  • hehe, I still have this game and my Jag.

    Cannon Fodder is awesome too.

  • This game was great on the PS1

  • Jaguar, lol the king of suckage.

  • Fuck, where can i get one of these?!

  • I wish I could have this game on my mobile.

  • you can get this on your iphone

  • I want the soundtrack to this!!! :O

is there anyway of getting hold of it or downloading it?

  • It was given its own CD release so theres probably a torrent out there.

  • ahh I didnt think of that...

and yeah I no about the cd soundtrack

But thanks the torrent completly crossed my mind

  • The CD is not the Jag version unfortunatly. Check out my Tempest 2009 video for a back to back comparison!

  • Does any one know where I can get the music from?

  • Ahh...I remember this game. One of the most addicting games ever for the Jaguar (Although that's not saying much, considering the console). I can remember playing this game for hours on end, partly for the music. This game had one of the most kick-ass soundtracks ever.

  • It is really hard to figure out what the hell is going on there.

  • I want to get the soundtrack for this

  • The AVGN has a Two-Part Video on the Atari Jaguar that can be viewed on Gametrailers today.

(Oh, and his cat plays a special role)

  • The cat plays the main role. Maybe he should start reviewing/playing games again.

  • i remember playing this game but i played it on the computer.

    Memorys

  • My tempest is not like that i like more my game but that game is not a sound well Still great video game our.

  • lol wut?

  • Tempest is a good game, but saying something is the best game on the Jaguar is like saying someone is the smartest kid at the Special Olympics.

  • wtf tech limits???? so we have next gen consoles, who churn out the same old crap week after week fps, lol ffs sake man its not about techie limit, it s about game passion/ design/ and yesabilityiwannaplaythatgame, lol i'm 44 yo male i have played owned and got every fucking game console/game/pc / as well,25 years and and still find you tweebs aint got a clue about console/pc games. jesus plz not smart ass replys form tweebs as i don't even read the n...long live jeff minter.

  • I hate to hear this crap. The good old days.... No, there was just as much shite out there 25 years ago than there is today. No, Im wrong. THere was a lot more shite.Over 10,000 games for the C64. How many of them are classics??

  • SEVERAL HUNDRED

  • So about 2 or 3 percent. And even your several hundred is way over. THere not several hundred classics.

  • Ok I'm calling BS on you owning a C64 because I did, from its inception, I had Fast hackem and a 300baud modem and lots of friends. I can tell you for a fact there were hundreds of ridiculously good games, some of the very best of that era. The reason being it was so easy to make games for that just your average guy, working alone even, could create a mega title. You simply have no idea what you're talking about.

  • Wow! And lots of friends, isnt that so cute. I said that there are very few classic games for any machine. I hate to hear people say this crap. They dont make games like they used to. Its just pure rubbish.

I got a C64 in 1986. Had a few classics like Manic Miner, Raid Over Moscow. But for every one of these there were 20 heaps of shite.

  • meaning I played nearly everything that was available you dolt. I had drawers full of floppies spilling over with games. Many of them in the context of the time they existed in, were incredible games. There's a REASON the C64 was so popular and it wasn't because people wanted to database their kitchen. Lol. The C64 was awesome. I know. I was there.

  • I doubt you played "nearly everything". You wouldnt have even played 20% of the games available.

The C64 is AMAZING. Love the machine. But it wasnt packed full of classics. The same amount of shite that is available today was available then, too.

  • Yeah...had it just another year or two of heavy game production....then we'd see.

  • The jaguar was ok. I think if they would have worked with the hardware a little more and a better control scheme and hyped it up a bit then it would have beat ass.

  • The Pc, Ps etc versions did not have the same engine or music. Even Tempest 3000 for the Neon Sucked! Its coz the music was put together by a Mod file generator & they cudn't adapt it to CD.

I have a cover/revamp of the Floaty bonus level if your interested to hear it? I cud always e-mail it. I'm also going to start a project for the TK theme (techno song 1st level) soon. Going to be tricky! Anyway, Poor Atari, Poor Jaquar. I quite liked the name actualy. Better than the Wii for a name! WEEEE!

  • But YES the Jag wasn't 64 bit, but the most powerful processor (of 2.. tom & jerry by motorola) was only 28bit & a console is only as good as its weekest link. However. It had something that no other console had, Tempest 2000!

  • Woe guys! Lets agree to disagree man! It's always a personal preference when it comes to the Jag. It's my favourite console still! I don't tend to play video games that much anymore. After the 64 bit thing, games got too realistic & had no arcade credibility for me.

  • it's 32 bit, I wonder why they lied

  • cause it had 2 32bit Processors (one called tom and the other called jerry) each running at 26.59 MHz on a 64 bit bus. and it also had Motorola 68000 "used as a manager running at 13.295 MHz.

just search google using the term atari jaguar wiki you will see its spec on why it was called a 64 bit system, they didnt call it for its GFX capability.

  • so they called the processors Tom and Jerry? lol

  • That game had a good soundtrack!!!

  • that's 64 bit? :O

  • i want a atari jaguar

  • Why, the atari jaguar is one of the worst consoles of all time.

  • it's unique.

  • Why? Because it wasn't a commercial success? What does that have to do with the quality of the hardware. It was actually quite a good console.

  • The console had bad controllers, graphics are bad (for a "64 bit" console), the game library was too small.

  • 1) What exactly about the controller was bad? The num pad was a great idea, check out the overlays that came with games like AVP.

    2) Graphics are bad? John Carmack is quoted as saying that the Jaguar could have easily competed with the PSX with minor tweaking.

    3) There are few games because it was only commercially available for about a year and a half (late 1994 to 1996).

    You fail at trolling.

  • 1) Almost every video game magazine say that the jaguar is a bad consolle. And is in the Gametrailers Top 10 worst consoles list. The controller was not a phone...so the num pad sucks. Every video game expert says that the jaguar controller sucks.

    2) Impressive graphics??? Tell me a Jaguar Game that had impressive graphics for that time.

3)It was only available for a year because it was a commercial failure.

  • Dude the Jaguar is not a bad console. You are basing your opinion ON opinion not fact. Technically the Jaguar was quite a good console and if Atari didn't make developers program in assembly language we probably would have gotten more games of higher quality. Did you read what I said about John Carmack? THE CREATOR OF DOOM?!!? I would trust him over GameTrailers any day.

FOR THE TIME (1994 to mid 1995) AVP, Rayman, Atari Karts all were about the quality people were used to.

  • And what's the most important thing about a video game console???

The video games. There where a bunch of bad games for the Atari Jaguar, like Kasumi Ninja, Fight for Life, AIRCARS, Club Drive and White Men Can't Jump. The only good games exclusively made for the atari jaguar are tempest 2000 and Alien vs Predator.

The Atari Jaguar's graphics looks like an old 16 bit video game machine.

Also Atari Karts looks like a Super Mario Kart Rip-off.

  • Dude "there are a bunch of bad games" for every console. Every console has shitty games when they launch, it's not until a console matures that developers get a hang of the hardware and they really start tapping it.

The Atari Jaguar was never intended to compete with the Playstation it was intended to compete with the Mega Drive and SNES.

    There are a lot of great games for the Jaguar;

Doom, Rayman, Atari Karts, Alien Vs. Predator, Tempest 2000, Wolfenstein 3D, Myst, Checkered Flag etc.

  • Yeah i know , but there are more bad games than good games for the jaguar. And there weren't many good games exclusively for jaguar.

For example: Doom was made for PC,then ported to SNES, PS1, 3DO, Jaguar, etc.

Rayman for ps1, saturn, pc and jaguar, (the ps1 version was the most famous)

Wolfenstein 3D for PC and then ported to other consoles.

Atari made the jaguar impopular with the commercials and the controllers, also jaguar was not a good name.

  • If you look at the releases and compare the bad with the good you will find that they are pretty much equal.

As for the ports they may not be exclusive but behind the port of Doom for the 3DO the Jaguar version is considered one of the best. It's the same case with Wolfenstein 3D.

The whole "Do the math!" thing was stupid but the whole "bit craze" was good for marketting back then.

I'm sick of this ridiculous argument. You clearly have no objectivity.

  • Let's finish this:

The jaguar was a commercial failure. Atari was already impopular because they developed games like E.T (Atari 2600), Pac Man (Atari 2600) and the atari 5200 in the 80's.

  • Also the jaguar is a very complicated 64-bit machine, and none of the games push the system even close to it's technical limits. But the game Skyhammer pushes the systems tecnical limits.

  • The Jaguar ports of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom are not the best. The best port of Doom is for the PS1 and the best port of Wolfenstein is for the 3DO.

  • Dude seriously. Give it a rest, you are really, really pathetic.

  • 1- I didn't insult you.

2- You're pathetic because you're defending a console that was a commercial failure.

    3- No more comments.

  • Come on, that would be like saying "Oh the Micro Gameboy was a piece of junk because it only sold 2 milliounits in 2 years."

Don't comment back, but please keep in mind that we as gamers love to play games from all systems. It is not this game's fault that the system itself commercially bombed.

  • The Jaguar graphics are not impressive, even the SNES can handle this graphics.

There were more bad games than good games.

Why do you think it was a commercial failure, because the jaguar library was bad.

  • It was a commercial failure, that's true. The failure had to do with Atari's promises for the system, such as "64 bit graphics."

I think that Atari should have just kept it as the Atari Panther 32-bit system, which was what it really was.

I think that each system has mostly bad games anyway. There are very few games that really grab us and make us want to play them.

For example, what were the N64's 2 game launches? You see, that's how easily we tend to overlook games.

  • Jaguar sucked, Tempest 2000 Ruled. Unlike now where Graphics mean everything, gameplay was more important. Play it (on the Jag) before you start with the old "These Graphics are crap so the game must be shit" lark!

  • I NEVER said that the graphics are the most important thing in a videogame. And yes, i played on the Jag.

  • me too.

  • i dont get how its 64 bit

  • Some of the chips inside the Jaguar process data in 64-bit chunks and several of the pathways between the chips are 64 bits wide. There's no real definition of how to measure the number of bits of a system and the bit counts are nearly always essentially meaningless but to be fair to them, Atari didn't just pull the number out of thin air.

  • Awesome

  • IS THIS AN ACID TRIP OR A GAME?

  • Does the atari jaguar have a joybox? I heard they have been making joyboxs since the first systems and i need one for the jaguar controller. plz tell me.

  • I..... don't understand this game..

  • Is YAK a tripper?

  • He's flippin' trippin'

  • Why does the option menu at 0:27 sound like a porn? lol!

  • the sega version is crap.

  • atari tempest .......all you young pups think grapics make a game think again .......

  • the sound are the same because the digisampler machine used for make that music are the same.. the akai 2500 whit techno package...

    thanks

  • Anyone out there in You Tube land familiar with the Amiga demo scene at all? If so, remember Digital's "Day of Reckoning" demo? a fave of mine from the 90's, well the music in this very Jaguar game has the exact same sounds from the pumping soundtrack in that demo. So, not sure which came first but it seems to me that the sounds in this were used for the music in that demo, or vice versa. Still, most of the music in Jaguar games sounds as though it was done on Amiga anyway, no bad thing
