create a second layer for the colour. when you create the new layer choose the 'multiply' mode. You can then paint over the black lines and erase any mistakes without having to redo the lineart
I do that on purpose actually, going over the lines. for one, the colors are on a different layer than the lines. by coloring over the lines i'm sure to get no anti-aliasing problems where the lineart meets the filler color. later on when cleaning up, i just select all the transparent space on the lineart layer, then choose the coloring layers i want to modify, and hit delete. instant cleanup. ^_^
this is why it's my first video. also my first time using the recording program i did. the content is interesting, if it's something that interests you. it would have been more 'interesting' if i'd added music to it, but i'm sure someone would have made a comment on my bad choice of music or something. this video was an experiment to see if i could use camtasia easily on my system. i have friends that wanted to see what i do in photoshop. so, i combined the two.
how can you do ART wrong? please explain that one... everyone has their own unique style of coloring goddammit... "doing it wrong" my ass. I agree that this may not be the best technique of coloring but anyway come on! DOING IT WRONG?...yah right.
Thanks for the defense on that, like i've said in other replies, sure it might not work for everyone, and maybe it's not the most efficient method, but really, it helped me understand shadows and lighting so that i COULD be faster and better at it.
well your "thing" sucks.. no offense or anything, but you waste so much time on skin b/c you don't know how to preserve time. not every art you do has to be done in this style.. try another video and try a different style [better/faster]
it might take me hours, but the end result, i feel, is worth it. I know, and have seen people with simpler, faster styles that come out better, but honestly, at the time I did this, I was only just learning the style of coloring, and I've improved vastly since then. It may not be the most efficient method, but it works for me.
you're talking about the dodge tool i believe, and i did do that when i first started learning, but i found it doesn't work for me as far as keeping colors looking natural.
Someone please help me! i scanned one of my drawings onto my computer and i have adobe photoshop 6.0 but it wont let me color it the right way! make the lines thicker or something! please help!
I agree with dathamir. There really isn't anything great with this video. I understand that it's not finished yet...but the neck isn't shadowed correctly, either.. this disappointed me.
2. it was meant to be informative, not entertaining. just a demonstration of my technique. Besides, it's the first time ive recorded as i did it, and obviously a first attempt isn't going to be my best work.
3. Doesn't matter if i just used the density tool. i get asked on a daily basis how i color the way i do. this video was made purely to save the breath of explaining it.
Awesome to see you at work here... you use a tablet, ne? I still have to get the hang of using mine... obviously, you can get a lot more detail out of a picture that way... you've got a great eye for colors, half your color choices convused me, yet it looked perfect once you were done.

So what exactly is it your doing? Are you just applying different skin tones at different opacities?
WildfighterII 4 years ago
yep. it's probably not the best way in general to do it, but it works for me, really, it gives smoother blending between shades.
