  • whats the easyest way of changing the clutch. Gearbox out or engine out?

  • just ordered my stage 2 clutch kit complete with flywheel should be here by friday. ant wait to get spoolin again :)

  • i got the same exact issue on my 130k 03 wrx. is it just the pressure plate or whole clutch kit that gotta replace?

  • @killerlopez14

I would only recommend getting a whole clutch kit INCLUDING a lightweight flywheel. I know some people say they don't recommend it because it could mess up timing *idk about that* but I switched to I believe a 12lb flywheel and it free revved SO much faster. Perfect for fast shifting too!

  • I have a 02 and have 112k on my clutch and just started slipping guess I made it longer than most. I think going stage 2 really put a beating on it.

  • i have a 07 wrx at 72k n my clutch is slipping already, my other toyota has 189k on stock clutch, i didnt know the clutch was gonna go on my subaru so soon.

  • Just test drove a 2004 legacy with a real bad slipping clutch just like that. I hope nobody buys it like that...

  • It's also 85,000 MILES + people an I willing to bet he ain't the original owner. How much life have you all gotten out your clutches?

  • @LIlowendNYC I've got 140k miles in my Civic, family owned since 99'

  • @LIlowendNYC i got my wrx a month ago and has about 82k miles and its starting to slip :(

  • @scadush Something tells me @Kamissick drives a toyota camry... :O

Fuck all the haters, lol, enough said.

  • mine does that too. :( i need a new one soon. i only have 71k miles on the car.

  • The clutch in my Subaru slipped heaps worse than that. i couldn't even get upto 40mph. And as soon as there was any kind of include or you wanted to accellerate it would just shoot upto 5000rpm. Still I made it 200miles through traffic like that before i could get it to a mechanic for a over night new one to be installed :) Atleast the Subie reliability will always get you home :)

  • still you can overtake any audi which is good news

  • Comment removed

  • @Kenttas Hahaha. Are you new to cars or are you ignorant to Audi's S line? 2003 Audi S4 would shit all over this car. People whose knowledge about cars are limited by, "My car can beat your car hurr", amuse me. Now run along and play with your tasteless body kit and cheap muffler and leave the real enthusiasts to their own business.

  • @immatureInc I' better walk in the winter than drive in audi. Everyone knows, that subaru is better value, more reliable, better looking (not like audi, which all are the same looking, same boring face), better handling (not like audi, which heavy front leads to awful understeer). The only engine audi had and was good is 2.2 t. All other parts and whole car is just POS. Sorry for truth

  • @Kenttas Truth? Sounds like someone is hating on other peoples' tastes in cars. Better looking is your opinion, better handling is a can of worms in which the situation dictates the results (Which I'm sure you're only into drifting from fapping away to Fast and the Furious), and your extremely vague rip on Audi parts means you are completely talking out of your ass. You're a disgrace to the people who are into the same cars you are into.

  • 03... mine is the exact same

  • okay.... so many videos of clutch slipping. Sorry but who cares. if you know your clutch is slipping then get it replaced. Plus easier way to know if your clutch is slipping is to put the e brake on place it in gear then see if your clutch catches. If it doesn't then yeah. its elementary

  • lmao u gave a great example of a slipping clutch....

  • yeah sucks my clutch just started to slip as well .. i got 290k miles so im not supprised time for upgrade!

  • :(

  • get an ACT clutch full facing one. wont slip. bet you got a clutch from eBay or some online shitty clutch.

  • Well slipping clutch can be caused on a new clutch as well, when the clutch overheats from abusing clutch liquid (brake oil) cant seal between the 2... So after the clutch cools down its all fine again.

  • mine is just starting to go out...100k on the original. My dad had a ford ranger with 225k on the original clutch...but when it finally went out it was catastrophic.

  • same thing is happening to me /: i go from like4k-7k in like a second or two :(

  • What is a slipping clutch?

  • @BigBruiser76 a slipping clutch is when the clutch cannot transfer complete power of the engine to the driveshaft. it transfers only a partial part of the engine's power to the driveshaft, because it can't, well, "seal" correctly. so since it can't "seal", the engine will rev up and down as if it was in neutral.

  • 95k miles on my 2005. Doing performance clutch replacement and lighter flywheel next week. :) btw my clutch still good for another 10k miles. Just one a performance one. :)

  • Wow ... I bet the driver don'T know how to clutch ... xD

  • geeez mine was at 155 when i changed it but it didnt slip as bad as yours

  • hey, that just means you can use the torque and power of high rpms in a higher gear lol

  • how you test it, just floor it and if the rpm's jump like they did, time for new clutch?

  • @speacialperson12345 To much of that and it could explode and you dont want that,a slipping clutch can be at all the rev range or high in the rev range, you will notice as it sounds like your doing a skid with revs rising but your speed is barely rising, and if you have good smell you will smell the clutch also.

  • @warples1 i know what clutch smells like, dumbass pulled in a camaro to my shop where i am learning at and as he says "tried to chirp the tires" but ended up burning up the clutch, stunk up the shop. nd he also stalled it like 4 times trying to pull it in the shop another day.

nd i was wtih my dad nd he test drove a ford ranger nd the clutch was definately slipping, at normal shifting, rpm's just jumped. the salesman tried to sell it like tht...i love manual transmission..........

  • oh shit!

  • needs a new clutch man

  • How many miles did you get out of the stock clutch?

  • @LoveMyZJ

The car had roughly 85k miles on it when it was replaced

  • @scadush wow... mine was gone after 15k on my 08 sti :/

  • @scadush I assume you drove it hard?

  • @weebl15

No. I did some "spirited driving" but I never thrashed it. No powershifting and maybe half a dozen times launching it since I've owned it. Half the reason I bought a subaru was because I wanted it to last, but c'mon, it's a wrx! You gotta have some fun

  • @Kamissick

First off, this is not one of the newer wrx's. The bug-eye looks nothing like a camry, and don't get so butt hurt because I actually enjoy driving. To each his own man.

  • @Kamissick I don't like you >:(

  • @Kamissick wrx's are shit? what do you drive?

  • @iTouchHelp100

    evo 8

  • @Kamissick nice

  • @Kamissick cunt

  • @scadush

85k on a single clutch is great :)

  • @luminaeus I only got 68k from mine. I know a guy who got 160k from his stock clutch in a N/A subie :)

  • what year was this?

  • @shizzle31

This video was taken just like a week or so before uploading, but it was in '08

  • I just tested my 03 mini cooper and the RPM's dropped slowly not super fast like that, how worried should I be???

  • hmmmm I just tried this test in my STi and it didnt slip nearly as bad as this...I think my shit is slipping, its like it doesnt want to handle the torque anymore, but the rpms dont jump like that if that makes sense...

  • i suppose you've already replaced this worn clutch given te time of posting but I wouldn't do this trick, in the video, to often or you can throw away your flywheel as well due to very high temps caused by fierce friction between the plates and the flywheel while slipping...

  • well, to be honest I wasn't even able to replace the clutch until the very last moment. The shop was suprised I was even able to drive it there it was so bad. Luckily I had bought a clutch/flywheel package w/ a lightweight flywheel b/c the stock one actually was shot.....it was cracked from the center to the outside on one side of it.

  • So... close call ;-) Very good to read you've been able to replace the whole thing. Mine will be replaced next week for a Sachs Race Engineering wich should be able to handle over 400lb-ft. Not that the engine in my car delivers that much (max 300lb-ft) but it's strong enough to last for at least a few years. Unfortunately I had to drive this way for a few months so I'm happy next week all will be solved!!

  • so the WRX is a 5 speed? Should i be doing this in the highest gear possible. Or is it 5th gear for any reason?

  • it doesn't have to be in 5th gear only, because it'll be slipping in all gears depending on how bad the clutch is, but if you test it in 5th it's most noticeable.

  • 3rd up hill is more noticable :)

  • Looks like it had a CVT

  • :/ sad to se that

  • ebay item number 390042243695 is a nice and cheap stock replacement clutch. you dont want to get a clutch that is properly matched to your power expectations. if you get too strong of a clutch, it can put wear and tear on your tranny.

  • Yes the boost goes up. the boost is actually what causes the clutch to start slipping. Once boost kicks in, the warn clutch cant bite hard enough with the turbo spooled, so the clutch slips. Does that make any sense?

  • ohhh... :( thats not a fun bill. Unless you know how to do it yourself?

  • how many kms?

  • so if the car is in 5th and cruising, push the gas in, rpm goes up and the car is sluggish, tthat means clutch is gone??

  • Basically, yeah. But it can be in any gear and rpm's will shoot up. It's just more noticeable in the higher gears. This clutch lasted only days after this was taken. It was GONE.

  • hey does the boost shoot up when u do this to

  • Don't know. I didn't have a boost gauge when this happened but I would assume it boosted to about 17 then stayed there since that's what I had it set to.

  • If anything, the boost should lower, due to the engine being under less load, and therefore - less exhaust gases being produced - which leads to a lower turbine RPM, and in-turn; a lower boosted manifold pressure.

  • yeah, trust me, I don't anymore. The other video's were taken not much longer after I got my car, just seeing what it could do. I'm alot nicer to my new clutch.

  • quit dumping at redline.
