  • I Love the pentagram in the background.

  • new age soldier

  • I would of thought Matthew Good would of had more hits on youtube lol

  • One day I decomposed, and the birds sang for me. I said "hello birdies!!! <3"

  • i remember this song when i t came out, funny that all these years later it's stuck in my head for weeks, singing it all day, revisiting this video several times a day... seen MG on G.Strombolopolous , talking about his bipolarism which i have an appointment to be assessed 2mrw

  • @HandicapableStrength down some pills, up some hope

  • bassist comited suicide cause those birds were singing it's all i ever wanted

  • omg, soooo awesome. this was the number one song the year i was born FUCK YEAH

  • @yellex1 uh, I was 22 when this came out, you got to be like 14. Anyway, great song brings back the good old days of being young in University.

  • @AllThatMakesUsHuman4 yeah he is. (Btw this is soaclancam)

  • one of the best canadian bands ever!!!!

  • @summer12ify hell yeah

  • slow down the opening riff, it becomes 23 to jimmy eat world..

  • @SoAClanCam I don't do math well. Obviously :-)

  • 15 or whatever years later. It still sounds fresh.

  • I miss 1997. :(

  • hells yeah!!

  • he went on to greater things, and fame, but this is where canadian rock lovers finally got over having to accept Trooper or April Wine as the best things could get.

  • @barriehomeboy we have plenty of great artists check out my play list titled "EH?!" and that's only a start

  • @barriehomeboy What about the Tragically Hip or Rush?

  • @zyclonb6 I lump Rush and the Hip in with the older bands. I loved the Hip's first 6 song album, but then they turned into another college bar-band. Rush was brilliant in the scope of things, but they only had a few songs that I could tolerate. I work with people who change the radio station to a toronto station that plays horrible ear-bleeding screaching 1970's rock (It's a tinny little radio with bad speakers) and think it's good music. Matt is on the other side of that wall that separates us.

  • @zyclonb6

Rush were once good, now they suck and sound like mainstream drivel. They have not been good since T4E. Saga is the best all around Canadian band, people like you only listen to mainstream drivel though so you won't have heard anything more than the few tracks Q107 and other similiar stations recycle.

  • I miss my easy boy

  • @ProudLiberal2008 la-z-boy is what he's saying.

  • 90's music is the best

  • FATED!

  • I love re-discovering Matt Good. Every week I find a new song or a song I hadn't heard in a while and BOOM! Oh long gone are the days of musical integrity.

  • Pretty prophetic toDAY

We were running on cruise control and now...

Well never mind it didnt make since then it wont now....hahahahha

  • This goes out to everyone: What are some of your favorite songs? Always been curious.

  • The Anthem to our age of consumerism.

    More=Less

  • the 90's and still today radiohead make real music. like matt good. nowadays music i just call fluff music. like fluff marketing. thats all music is now. who will take off the most clothes on mtv or muchmusic in order to get radioplay and videos. so sad the music industry nowadays.

  • As a Cdn kid, this came out while I was in middle school. I had it on constant rotation in my Discman, as did most of my friends. When we would chill out, he usually was playin' in the background. Matt Good's music followed me on through highschool (remember Beautiful Midnight??) , and now that I'm in college, if I need a boost, or just want to zone out ....I can still count on Matt to take me back to the Good days. This is music. Rock on ppl!

  • i remember this song.. funny? everyone says i remember!! but its true anyways it was 1997 Bret Hart was on top the Colorado avalanche were prime!! and MUCH MUSIC was still good .. man i miss those days soo much:( but we must move on

  • Most of you probably don't know Geoff (the original/founding bassist of this band and in this video) passed away awhile ago, he was a great guy and is missed! - Geoff I miss our afternoons when you'd visit me for beers and keep me company while I was working at the Bal! You always had the most amazing, ironic and hilarious stories to tell me, always trying to brighten my day! RIP GEOFF, you left us far too prematurely.

  • kick-ass song or what ?!!!! Damn that 's sizzling and burns the ideology of capitalism to a crisp. I agree with the last comment - where is the raw rocking emotion of some of the 90's bands ? the 60's....do we have to wait every 30 yrs for music to raise it's voice of social conscience ?

  • Do any of you really understand what this song is about? He is telling us society is fucked up. We all act like robots and care only about materialism. Everything isnt all right and we should be more than skin deep. The music is great but try to get the message.

  • I love this song

no one knows it >.< Im 14

  • @xMusicBurstx I know I hate how I am such a big fan of MGB and I am 16 and all the people in my school don't have a clue who MGB is. It fucking sucks cause they have no idea how great of a band MGB is.

  • 0:51, Matt! where's the 'u' in colours!? ;0

  • I blasted this song in my car today and just sang my soul out...It felt sooo good

  • God, you don't have to quote the video we just watched.

  • he looks good....how come he looks like some sort of street person now!.

  • Argueably MG(B)'s best rock tune.

  • MGB ftw

  • man this dudes got great tunes

  • This is MGB in their prime. Back when the flaws of the world were plenty, but Matt was hungry and angry and you could just taste the bitterness in the music... compared to today where he's all lorazepammed the fuck out and it's just passive-aggressive whining. ~~MGB fan since 97

  • @SilentServiceCode

I know your comments over 5 months old, but I have to correct a few things you said. For one I'm pretty sure he's not "all lorazepammed the fuck out" anymore seeing how he overdosed on ativan a little while before hospital music. and I doubt he'd be back on it. His music is still the same as far as style and lyrics go. The sound is definitely a bit different as it sounds like he's moved into a few different genres. MGB is fantastic, but over time he's only gotten better.

  • We love You Geoff. We will miss You!!!! From Everybody @ Charts Muisc

  • ...except for manual transmissions

  • look how freaking young he looks/actually was.

  • He's still hot.

  • awsome song!!!

  • bassist looks like joe satch!! hahaha

  • Geeeeez! This is da first song I ever heard of him years ago and thought: Finally someone who's spitting it out ''LIKE IT IS'' ! If you read what the billboards say also in da clip, it completes da song...What is this song about really!???: Simple:...Souls prostituting themselves to just fit in a stupid system dat enslaves you into thinking like THEY WANT---not like YOU ARE! OUCH.....

  • KEEP ROCKING MATT MAN~PABLO

  • Gene simmons knows a hell of a lot more about talent than any of us here, but hes not looking for great canadian bands, he is looking for bullshit pop bands that will sell their souls to get a record deal, and he can then mold them into whatever he wants.

  • Be what you want to be

Watch what you want to see

  • Killed for fun

Its fucking funny dont you think

    One day youll decompose

And you wake up and those

    Those birds are singing

    Those birds are singing....

  • YO ! ...dis be... drinking music ...

  • is that cambie and broadway ??

  • I think that's Main and Terminal.

  • Not really alot of comments on how absolutely awesome this video is, strange for such an amazing video...

  • gene simmons of kiss knows about great canadian talent, he is up here right now looking for new talent, why canada and not anywhere else, because he knows there is great music talent here in canada, people stop hating each other, enjoy great music, there is a lot of great music out there ok, going back thousands of years, enjoy it all, be be gone from this earth someday, and you won t be able to enjoy it anymore, everybody relax, and enjoy ok, why all the fighting, why can t we all get along

  • fuckin hippy

  • Gene Simmons is a fag

  • Gene Simmons knows NOTHING about talent.

  • shemaletina-umm..... gross name+the psychobabble=

Your cretainly not helping the reputation that Canadians have!

  • I love that creepy grin at 0:38 !!

  • I'm in the US but close to the border. WTF, the greater part of the US misses out on some really good Canadian rock (my "A" list could go on forever).

  • agreed with Lano55

  • All of you faggots shut up. Breaking Benjamin and MDB are COMPLETELY different so stop comparing, being elitest asshole and enjoy some fucking music! If you don't like it there are millions of OTHER VIDEOS TO WATCH

  • Dude, are you fucking kidding me? Breaking Benjamin sucks.

  • Are you like his boyfriend or something? BB is a band that you barely acknowledge when you hear them.

  • yea right bud lol

  • Is there any MGB Raygun video?

  • gotta love the lining of the coat :P haha MGB forever

  • Every time they come to Vancouver I am one of the first in line to get those tickets. They put on the most amazing shows.

  • I've never seen his solo stuff live. Do you know if it's good?

  • It's fantastic...I go to every show here.

Well worth going - he does his new stuff PLUS some old MGB.

  • @ShadowCalibur Oh yeah, A lot of his solo stuff is good and his voice still has that shakiness that makes it sound so awesome

  • Great song from a great band.

  • why are the sooo fucking gooodd!!!

    my favourite canadian band.

  • .. saw matt good band before they were super famous.. like in 1995 for $6 in Coquitlam,BC ha ha .. memories.

  • music in the 90s was so emotional it actually made you feel not like todays shit like that lady gaga its shit i soooo wanna go back

  • @iamcondescending I couldn't agree more! it actually took hard work and talent, and the ability to play an actual instrument, not electronically altered and enhanced vocals and drum beats...90s music actually had worth, fuck kanye west and lady gaga and all those manufactured glam and sham money whores

  • @iamcondescending If you search hard enough my friend , you'll find those bands with the right intentions , best of luck :D

  • @AxADravenAxA oh i know i was speaking more of popular music real music used to be mainstream now not so much

  • @iamcondescending I am a 16 year old girl and I actually agree with you. The music from the 90's is soo much better than all this pre recorded non music shit that they put on the radio everyday now. Matthew Good is a great example of what real music is. I will always be a Matthew Good fan!!!!!!!!

  • @iamcondescending 90's had some very good lyricist

  • @iamcondescending I agree, and sadly we are the ones to blame for that. We stopped paying for music and started downloading mp3s, now the music industry has changed its revenue model and has to give up on artists and focus on mainstream high sellers-arena fillers... well, at least thats my explanation for how shitty music is now... its a real shame

  • @iamcondescending People were saying the same thing in the 90s about years past. Theres always good music and theres always the shitty pop, just gotta know where to look and what to ignore. Spice girls and boy bands dominated the 90s remember?

  • @JIPALIG, name one good song that gets common radio play these days?

  • @iamcondescending Matt's song made u feel, but there was a lot of crap back then too, like today. He's still around though. His Hospital Music cd changed the world's perception of Canadian musicians.

  • @iamcondescending so dont listen to lady gaga and listen to this or whatever the else you wanna fucking listen to, stupid fuck stop whining, don't forget, we have nsynch and JT and all that crap too

  • This is actually one of my favorite songs by Matt Good. I love the message.

  • i think its safe to say that 54-40 is one of Good's influences.

  • c`mon 54-40 an influence to matt good ...please go on his website definetly not an influence

  • i have always looooved matthew good, but one thing i've noticed is that he's very adept at using the word "fuck" tastefully in his songs

if it's possible, he was able to do it haha

  • This song still gives me goose bumps, I LOVE IT!!!

  • I miss my lazyboy...I miss my

  • Matt is such an amazing artist and lyricist! Long live the Good!!

  • BEST fuckin song of '97!

  • it always confused me why he says "It's always what I wanted." and not "It's what I always wanted."

  • that doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well

  • alright! check out the vintage 90's clothing on those guys. i saw Good in Montreal. kicked ass obviously.

  • 90's is now vintage? - that sucks. I wanna go back thou. When music was 'Good' and Emo wasn't around! "IH8EMO" License plate number. If someone else does it I'll be just as happy!

  • it sucks i know. we're regressing instead of progressing when it comes to music... i miss the 90's.

  • me tooo man. so one seriously has to save the music of today, before its too late

  • Amen to that.

  • totally agree man.. love the play on words.."when music was good" haha too cool

  • I can't think of a single good band that came out in the 2000s. AH. It's all like folksy or emo shit nowayds :(

  • Hahahahahaha! Wow ShadowCalibur, you fail.

  • wow...mature

  • Agree with most of those, especialy Breaking Benjamin. How could anybody be stupid enough to say no great bands came out after 2000? Really? Your taste in music must really suck then.

  • Some people just like a certain sound from a certain era. I don't agree with you the Breaking Benjamin is better then Matthew Good at all, but to each his own.

  • @revaholic You know whats funny, All the bands I love are playing currently and I always thought that they were from the 2000s but there are no band I listen to that came out in the 2000s I listen to. So this can be agreeable

  • Ottawa Bluesfest... three or so days ago... LIVE...

    SOOOO Sick

  • I can't believe it took me, a Canadian, this long to see this video. LAME!

Song is still awesome 11 years later, of course. Better live with a wicked audience singing the chorus, but that's a given.

Finally: lol '90s fashions and lol young Matt Good.

  • ...and the monkey ^s p i l f^ the switch!...

  • amazing song :)

  • Every since the middles age, society has increasingly become more rational. As the fifties rolled around, General Electric and other sought to make life easier for American families. However, things haven't gone as planned. As life got more rational or automated, people felt the need to be more emotional. This duality was expressed in American culture many ways. Women of the fifties became closet drunks, etc. It seems as society became more "automated", it became more irrational.

  • Oh so excellent...thanks so much

  • (01:58/04:17)"Everyone is a robot except you. lol. great song. great Canadian artist.

  • this is my favorite song

  • lol isnt the message of this song make this ironic watching this on youtube? haha matthew god kicks ass

  • Good point!

  • I also love how Matthew Good, always writes songs and creates videos all on his own which is a hell of a lot more then you can say about other bands, ahem All Saints, in addition to writing songs that make you go nuts, Matthew Good always comprises music videos, that many if not all people could totally relate too, you can walk down the streets of any city and then later say to yourself after thinking back towards one of his music videos that "This is how life's like this is what its all about."

  • I must admit, it is more then a little refreshing to actually listen to some real rock music, as appose to the number of bands out there who write and sing some of the most gibberish you can possibly imagine.

  • thanks genius

  • This is a true comment on society, it totally shines a light on what it has become. What a great song and a great video.

  • matthew good kicks major ass this song is the best

  • Underdogs is awesome! :D

  • This is the video that got me into Matt's music. Can't believe that was 11 years ago

  • Love this song. Can't wait for him to come play another show around here. It's been a few years but he played Brock University. that was Radical

  • Thanks for posting this video! I love being able to see it again.

  • hahah,yeah really. good call.

  • How ironic is it to watch this music video on YouTube?

  • Fuggedaboutit. Just sit back and enjoy. I wanna see Matt in concert sooo bad he's my fave performer right now.

  • Matt Good has put quite an impressive resume of songs over his career. His videos are always very well done as well. Not much of a fan of his latest album, but his older stuff is absolutely awesome!

  • good example of Canadian rock, miss this band

  • I know the drums are simple for this video but i still love 'em

  • good, yes, however once you decompose you won't wake up

  • I just LOVE the bridge in this song.

"Killed for fun, it's fuckin' funny don't you think one day you decompose and you wake up and lose... those birds are singin..."

    Really good.

  • lol... "pulls a total axel rose" I hadn't thought of it like that.

    But, yeah, it's too bad.

  • Obviously you have not properly researched the reasons behind the demise of the Matthew Good Band. Comparing the drunken arrogant buffoonery of Axel rose to the breakup of Matthew Good Band is downright nonsensical. Matthew Good is still making music. Axel rose TALKS about making music. That Chinese Democarcy album will never be released.

  • This is the song that got me hooked on the greated band in the world.. they should reunite

  • SICK SONG! Love Matthew Good!

  • Its great to find this

  • To me this is one of MG's "manic" videos

  • i hope matthew good didnt spell disaster distaster hahhaha

  • wow what an album, 10 years gone by already, "It's always what I wanted!!"

  • And 1997 indeed had a lot of great songs...

  • this song was written by matt good and dave genn..... so, matthew good band..... but his in a coma cd, itll say matt good band

  • how can this vid only have 4,000+ views? great song and very nostalgic.

  • 7 months since you wrote this... now it's at 14,000.....

  • fell in love with this song and band when this came out.... havent heard them in ages... memories. :)

those birds are singin, and those birds are singing.

  • All time bast video

  • wrong band name. back then it was matthew good band...

  • Technically CORRECT band name.. Matthew Good is all that matters he wrote all the music when "band" was tacked on the end, so it really doesn't matter to me. I consider it all "Matthew Good".

  • "I miss my head, miss my heart, miss my lungs. Be what you want to be do want you want to see"

    This song rules.

  • wow...this is soooo back in the day.

    go matty :P

  • I remember buying this album back in 1997,i wasnt dissapointed. Wow being 15 never felt so great! ! !

    thx fr th Mmrs Matt:

  • hot damn i love these men.

  • Underdogs was a kickass album
