Best Christmas present I ever received was my parents paying the bills for my little West Highland Terrier, Clyde, when he was diagnosed with terminal Canine Cirrhosis. I don't have much income in seminary, and so my folks gave the money to pay for his doctor's visits, shots, and meds. Thanks to that gift my little dog lived through the whole year, 4 times longer than the vets said he would. He passed away last January at 9 years old, but I was blessed to have that extra time to spend with him.
