  • I used to live in Lewiston, Mi also and my hubby worked in the woods. We found tons of morels under ash and poplar trees east of town.....would love to do that again, but alas, I now live in the Netherlands. We used to get so many that we actually sold them by the grocery bag full!!! Dang I miss those schrooms!!!!

  • @lindy52lou There's still a ton of them around. The Chanterelles were everywhere this year too. The Fall mushrooms are starting out with a Big Bang also. This year is the best in about 10 years for all kinds of Mushrooms. Come visit some time !

  • @misty45404 Ya, I agree with you. This was filmed in a very popular place, if you leave them, they're gone !! I've since moved to Lewiston Mi. 160 miles north of where I used to live. Still competition, but I also can hunt private lands, all to myself.

  • I think the season is running a little late here. i've been doing lots of fishing lately, so i havent been out too much. :)

  • kool!!!WENT OUT TODAY AND FOUND ABOUT 20 PICKABLE.still small...but i think we are in for an explosion!!!!ground temps are about right and its raining off and on right now.dont worry my friend....it will happen!!!!check your ground temps and let me know what ya get...its about 52 deg here in skandia mi.we are safe for now as long as it doesnt get too hot too fast!!!looks like you guys do pretty good there...mostly blacks around here..but have noticed lots of dying elms in one of my spots....

  • @mrearlstubbs Well, Thank You. I'm your neighbor LOL I'm in Lewiston, Michigan. I'm going out today, myself. Everything's real late here. I went out last Sat. and found zilch. The Trout Lilies were the only thing up. And they were just sprouting. It's been in the high 20's to low 30's at night, and in the low 50's during the day. Something has got to change or Morels will pass us by ,here. I have noticed some Leeks in some areas, so I will dig some of them, if they're big enough. Good luck !!

  • Great Video! I always find lots of halffrees it seems like they pretty much grow anywhere toobad their not as tasty as the others

  • @anoakes92 Thank's The half free's don't fruit every year where I'm at. Don't know why though .

  • @grifola Yeah I live in Jackson, Mi and we find them every year ive herd that they are absent some years

  • Nice vid. Nice mushrooms. Thanks for posting. I'll be getting out soon to get some. Almost the season.

  • awesome video

    thanks for sharing

  • @gaiagale Thanks for watching !!

  • @grifola ...my pleasure ...I've foraged 'shaggy manes' for years but this year I found different mushrooms and decided to find out if they are edible ...I found an assistant prof at UNBC who has shown me how to use characteristics to ID the ones I found yesterday ...and I decided to check/search youtube and wikipedia to help me remember all that he shared with me yesterday ...during that study/search I discovered your wonderfully clear image video ...i'm so inspired by your video

    thanks

  • @gaiagale Sorry to hear about that, cause now you're going to spend your life savings in search of them. Ha! Ha! It's a fantastic and profitable hobby. ( saves on the food bill ) Just be careful starting out !! Get some good ID. books for your area & there should be a mushroom club somewhere near you to join.

  • Hey Jack. When we goin' hunting ? You coming up for some blacks ? George in TC

  • Excellent shroom hunt!

You sure found some beauties eh.

Great footage and a very well put together vid...nice goin 5/5

    I didn't know about the semi's

  • Thanks Kyle, Youtube is getting slow on their notifications on comments. We had a real good year on mushrooms all together. I just didn't get out as much as I wanted.

  • Excellent! Thank you so much for the tag and

    sharing of morels. =)

  • Back at ya Heidi !!!!

  • i went to umich. never left ann arbor...

  • Nice video Jack!

We have cooked up some nice ones this year too! See ya at the lake!

    Gary & Tammy

  • Well hello there !! I saw some that Gary & Mike got. Ya, we're heading there either tonight or tomorrow night. ( hopefully tonight ) See ya's soon then.

  • Oh, I would love to do that! I'd love to eat those too!

Thanks so much for showing us how you spot and harvest these 'shrooms. We only have toxic toad stools here.

  • Hi Wendy, I hear morels grow BIG in TEXAS. Ha ha ! We're planing on doing some cooking videos, over the campfire, when we get out to the lake. Hopefully we'll start moving out there this weekend. We wanna get there before the gills start bedding. Thanks for watching!!!

  • Wow, cool, better than morels? Incredible! Do you have any videos on these hunts?

  • I sure do !! Just click on my channel " grifola " I've got quit a few videos on various mushrooms. It's up by my little , and handsome picture, next to subscribe, on the right of the screen.

  • Interesting! What other shrooms do you hunt for then?

  • Lactarius, Chanterelles, Suillus, Boletes,Lepiotas pretty much all spring, summer and fall mushrooms. I try to learn new ones every year. Believe it or not, there are better eating mushrooms then morels.

  • Nice work Holmes! I like your camera work too, great amateur production. Keep up the good work.

  • Thank you Dr. Watson, I presume. Ha ha. We went out the other day in Lapeer, and found even more in the same spots. Looks like the morels are winding down though. But they are just the start of the mushroom season.

  • Jack hay que ver lo que andas , mi pregunta es vendes las setas o se las regalas a los vecinos . Saludos

  • Good luck to you !! Our season is winding down except for the Crassipes.

  • Can't wait for our season to start in Manitoba!!!!

  • Thank's Dan. And it ain't over yet !!

  • Great vid man! Go Get Um!

  • Thanks !! Heading out again this weekend. They should really be up great.

  • This is fantastic! I've been dying to do this, I'll have to go out soon. This video was great, very exciting!!

  • Thanks, but you better hurry, cause the season is nearing the end for southern Mi. It's about mid saeson for central Mi. but is just starting up north. Northern Mi. should be great in a week or two. Good luck

  • Oh my God! Absolutely fantastic. I've just came back from morel festival in Slovakia but there is nothing to compare with. It was too dry for morels in that part of Europe. That's amazing that in US, M. esculenta is more common than M. conica. In Europe it's opposite. Congratulations.

  • Thanks Buddy, This year is the best I've seen since 2000. We had a lot of rain , and still getting more, the next few days. Esculentas will be peeking the next two weeks . Conica is very rare here, but Verpas and Semiliberas are everywhere too . Sorry to hear you didn't do to well.

  • Nice! Can't wait till they start coming up here

  • Hey Grizz, nice hearing from you. Hope everythings great for you & the new bride !!!

  • All is well just lots of paperwork for the move to Northern BC. So when are you going to be showing where to find the fun mushrooms :^)

  • How come you're moving ? Thought you loved it there. Those shrooms don't grow here. They grow in the southern climates, like Florida . 1,400 miles away. I 'll do a video if I ever get down there again.

  • Oh I do love it here! I am moving to Northern BC though and it is exactly the same as Alaska only with less people. My wife is finishg her degree in Northern BC and I may finally finish my Masters there as well.

  • @Adams116 ...I found this video yesterday and your comment today...you must be coming to UNBC/Prince George or at the very least UNBC/satelite : )

...WELCOME ...there lots of mushrooms here

...I would love to meet you both and do a 'shroom walkabout ,,,I have been finding leccinums where/close to where I have found 'shaggy manes' in previous years ...sadly zero Coprinus Comatus so far...

I'm such a neophyte still I'm enthusiastic and believe that foraging food is an healthy social activity

  • nice shrooms

  • Thanks Bill, I thought you'd rib me a little more about the cig in my mouth .

  • MORELS!!! I'm so jealous! What a great haul!

  • Thanks Rachael, the good part is, they're just starting here. This weekend should be killer !!
