and IS there an way to disasembley an bullet without making one of the parts broke ?
or is there atleast an way that you can have it that way, you have atleast after the disasembley of somme bullets, you have an good case and an good bullet, so you can use the bullet and the case again ?
Nice to see a gun user in the US who was slightly nervous! Some people over there seem like they are not scared of anything! Interesting device anyway, I wouldn't have liked to have banged that hammer though, in case it went wrong.
@itsmacko that....is not a good idea. Like when I decided to take a picture with my Sigma, I had my finger on the trigger, and had no idea if it was loaded.
The total kinetic energy is actually exactly the same no matter what you hit; anything from a brick to a pillow would decelerate the cartridge to zero velocity with respect to the inertial frame. What changes is the peak force as the impact time is shortened, so hitting a harder surface makes it more likely to overcome the friction between the bullet and case. The book was evidently hard enough to do this, however, the guy was probably worried an even harder impact might set off the primer.
@pmaddamsetti yea but it works off a short peak force - you should hit a cement floor with it and not a pillow :) You shouldn't wack this tool very hard either - it's not needed. I just pulled some 1943 .303 milsurp - the things were corroded as hell - this stuff had green "moss" all over them - after taking the powder out, some of it was chunked together with green goo - would never consider shooting these rounds - some milsurp is pure crap - I'll use the bullets though for the range.
How about this get some plyers and pull the fucker out yourself then melt down the old bullet put it into a bullet mold and reuse it there probablem solved.
Yeah and then you get to find out what the inside of an ambulance AND an emergency room look like! Note: you can ignite a primer by squeezing a bullets casing from the sides with pliers. and that bullet is clearly not made from lead but most likely a lead core surrounded by copper or brass. so it wont work to melt it down...
you talking about 50 bmg you will need to get a special bullet puller and they arent cheap....i need one too my once fired lake city brass is crap and im going to pull and put in better brass ill never buy lake city agin
Thanks 4 that.. Actually i found like 3 more bullets (same .50) i really want to remove powder from them. Ill keep searching for a bigger bullet puller.. COOL!!!
Actually, one way that would work is to load it in your press, and without a die, pull the arm down. Then, use a set of vice-grips to hold the bullet as you pull it downwards. I've done that to demil some dangerous loads before, though it will mar the bullet, and I wouldn't recommend shooting it without resizing it first, or really at all for that matter.
Sounds like the crimp is too tight. Ammo used in semi-auto firearms do not require a very tight crimp. Just a tip for ya but if youv'e had no problems with the ammo cycling, then by all means, carry on.
1- Shell holders work better than the colliers that come with the puller.
2- I remove an unfired primer, just like I do a used one - with the resizing die, just do it slowly. I have the Hornady Lock N Load Progressive and it has a tube the spent primer falls through to the trash can. For good primer, I just hold the end of the tube and catch the primer in my hand.
Actually, i don't... I guess if you wanted teh primer you could use a resizing die, but I personally wouldn't, but if I did, i would wear the safety glasses and probably earplugs as well... i hear you can deactivate the primers by soaking the case in oil if you don't want an active primer in your rubbish can
i dont think you can unless you pust it in a gun and just fire off the primer, then you can remove the spent primer after cleaning the case again. if you try using a de priming too on a live primer chances are the the primer will go offin the process, so it's a BAD IDEA!!
That's what I thought. IIRC, my bullet puller is a Dillon but it works the same. I really have to smack it hard to pull a bullet from my .44 mag reloads.
It usually takes a lot more to dislodge the bullet, the only problem with Youtube is that the videos aren't high enough resolution, the side of the brass was 'crinkled' down from the press.. i probably could have actually wiggled the bullet out with my fingers, but it was an easy way to show my brother the process this way without hammering my workbench :) Thanks for watching!
No safety glasses? Dismantling of live ammo no-no. The primers are subject to detonation at any time.

If you had to pick ONE TIME TO WEAR YOUR SAFETY GLASSES, it'd probably be while pulling a bullet.

@itsmacko
RCBS, Hornady, and Forster make bullet pullers that work with your press. You usually need a different collet for each size caliber you pull.
Just google bullet puller and you'll find them.

Sissy! You should use a blow torch on it and when it pops, you get the bullet out.

How come you hit the puller on magazines/books. You should use a hard surface. This creates more kinetic energy to knock the bullet out.
gwargwar1981 2 years ago
looks like that worked well enough.....

Thanks for the tip, although primers aren't the cheapest, i likely wont reuse one, I am probably just being over cautious...
I will look for a shell holder, but I don't reload very often, so low quantity, I probably will stick with my methods, but Thanks!
jtruxton 3 years ago
Never use a primer that you have touched with your bare hand. They aren't dependable.
Dave7Prescott 3 years ago
You should put some cotton inside the bullet puller. If not, when you unload some SP bullets you usually ruin their soft lead points

you can use hydrolic press from water to remove the primer the primer is no good after that tho
krazykid7217 3 years ago
Just use the resizing die and remove the primer as you would one that had been fired. Just go slowly. I've never had a primer go off.
