how's this work on distorted guitar? or can you at least record clean, tune and edit, and reamp it? That'd allow you to get perfectly tuned and timed guitar parts.
Just got the demo version of this a few days ago and my initial reaction was identical to his- and thousands of others probably feel the same way too. I took the famous drum break from "Holy Ghost" by the Barkays and- in less than a minute- turned it into a drunken marching band at a carnival. Like he says, this will lead to new genres of music and we won't be able to trust any recording we hear ever again- but who cares? This is the future on the march.
This is a brilliant encoder algorythm, if You point on the arrow +- and drag the 'circle' on the right end position You will get the 'highest resolution' with the 'ghost' notes (double clicking them will activate them)
Try out the formant tool, point on the middle of any 'note' hold down and scroll left and right (its more effective with long ones) so You will hear the complete 'phrase' of this 'element' while scrolling up and the down You can change the formant as well like in an X-Y matrix editor.
picking individual notes from a performance of a single instrument is one thing.... picking out the guitar part from an ensemble of many instruments is something else...
I think this is pretty scary, however I see HUGE potential for this program's use in transcription.
Don't know exactly what your favourite artist is playing but want to double-check something? Plug the tune into this thing and take a look at the piano roll to double check the notes.
A matter of time. It already detects the right key an can process the music faster than Jeff can play it. It's just a matter of time before they write logarithms that can detect / correct certain styles of play on the fly.
kohada64: I have tried it on some of my less busy fretless pieces and it works really well. The less complex the material - the easier it is to change and have it sound good.
gre107: the upgrade is less than $300 for the full version I think.

Love that reaction, Jeff - "No WAY!"
Had the same thing with the 'regular' Melodyne Studio (pre DNA) - so am waiting for this with constant drool thing happening ;-)
Sweet Software - and, as you say, will change the industry...

remember Buddy Bolden covering his trumpet so noone can see how he plays his licks (which supposably became jazz as we know it)

Holy shit. This puts Cakewalk to shame, and I haven't even had a chance to test Ableton yet..
I am sold. Gonna get me Mac pronto.
thatdearguy 2 years ago
It's a plug-in. It works within both mac and pc and works within cakewalk, pro tools, cubase, etc.
steevmoor 2 years ago
That's great news. I'll be getting that in not too long.
thatdearguy 2 years ago
Its a different kind of program to Cakewalk, not in the same category.
SamCoreJ 2 years ago
Of course its different, it's new. Finally I won't have to bother with short samples or midi recordings.
thatdearguy 2 years ago
No, its different because its a different kind of software. Melodyne has been around for years and never been in competition with cakewalk.
SamCoreJ 2 years ago
The stuff of science fiction! Musicians still couldn't use it to fake playing all the right notes in a live unplugged gig though.

Excellent bass playing, Jeff! Seems like you can play any notes you want - even without Melodyne. ;)

Very good news for me. So technically the imput doesn't matter, right? Do you think it could handle a violin or some brass?
