Princess...it is NOT dehydrated at all. This is a MM Lasiodora parahybana, males are supposed to have smaller abdomens...It could have very well be he freshly molted prior to handle.

i've always wanted a pet tarantula - i almost got a baby bird eating spider once, but my parents made me settle for a snake. are these guys easily frightened? or do they ever move really quickly without warning? that's the only thing that might make me a little panicked. the last thing i'd want is to drop it, or scare it more.

@sergiofer34 I was wondering the same thing haha. They aren't venomous, out of 38,000 species of spiders, only 4 are actually dangerous to people... lol. Snakes are much more dangerous because of the whole "un-predictability" factor haha. So you must get a lot of people saying that also! You should most definitely get a tarantula! They are stellar pets.

@sergiofer34 Tarantulas have venom like every spider, but think of it like a bee sting, the effect on humans is relatively small if any. The real problem is if you have allergies, just like people that have bee/wasp/ant sting allergies, the allergic reaction is potentially dangerous, not the venom. Tarantulas make amazing pets, you just need to pick one that's right for your abilities and means of care. I would suggest a rose hair because of their ease of care to get started.

@sergiofer34 I would avoid the african species such as the togo starburst, horned baboon, and especially the usambara orange. They have stronger venom and are more aggressive and speedy than most. I have 2 togos (~5-6"), a venezuelan suntiger (EXTREMELY fast, not good to start out with, gets ~6"), 2 pink toes (3-5"), a rose hair (3-5"), and brazilian black and white (max size ~9", also a hair kicker)

No tarantulas are not venemous. Like all spiders, they do have an enzyme in their saliva that breaks down its prey into an liguid so it can suck it up, but for a human the most it'll do is make a bite sting more.
