It makes me swell with pride to know that I'm one of the few people to have the complete outtakes. However, this still isn't the best song on the album. My favorites are Wake Up Dead Man(mix) and the instrumental version of Chances Away. The albums got many songs. It's 3CDs you know. ;-)
u2 is still at it's best, you've just gotten older and are no longer at your best. If u2 still can grab the attention of young audiences then they are still awesome.
My uncle gave me a disc of Achtung out-takes. There was a load of alternative versions of Salome, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses and Wake Up Dead Man (The finished version on Pop is much darker then the out-take versions) but this one always stuck out for me. Love listening to it. Never knew it was called Heavan and Hell. Great vid by the way
Im amazed that what U2 throws away is a million times better than what commercial radio passes off as hits. The world is run by what 10 year olds listen to and buy. Its all so sad.
@mikey226 It's thrown away, because someone stole the demo-cd, during the recording sessions. They decided not to release any of this, but you can still hear a lot of songs that include parts of several songs. For example 'Wake Up Pt. 1' features parts of ...Spinning Head, ...Dead Man and more.

Thank you for posting this-I've never even heard of this song! It's goregous, if Brain Eno had waved his magic wand over it once or twice, Heaven and Hell might have evolved into one of U2's a-list songs!
I wish this had shown up on the album. I LOVE this song. I've always wondered if it's supposed to be Heaven IN Hell because he sings "you light up my darkness". So it would make more sense.
oh 'black mask' is wonderful, bono's singing is so passionate and spontaneous in that one, it's not just chorus and verse but a more 'elvis presley and america' rambling song one of my fav u2 moments
it has been around for years. i purchased it in the early 90s. i have tons of u2 boots, if you want to know more i can help you find what you are looking for.
also check out my 83 War Tour concert I posted on my page. peace.

u2 should and could put together all their off takes and clean up the audio and make propably 3 or 4 good albums!
I agree that too much is put in the hands of radio stations and youth.
Come on LADS are you not well enough off to make what ever you want?
Why the band cares for peoples approval is ???? John Lennon never cared period.

Nice edit to the original audio, but I do admit missing Bono calling out the keys for the changes, "F"

this reminds me a bit of Just One More Try by George Michael.
it just has a similar feel with the organ backing and that rhythm.
