This and Jackie Chan's Drunken Master(Jui Kuen, 1978) are very similar films by the scenario. Both of them are really funny. Not very nice movements of fighting but nice choreographies ;)
I have the remastered North American version of this.
I love it, but the fact they re-dubbed it from its classic original track, irritates me no end. For me, those original dubs, laughable as they sometimes are, are as much a part of the film's history as anything else.
If you watched enough of those movies, those same voices that seemed to show up time after time, became like old friends.
At times, I think I like Sammo more than Jackie Chan.
@mdf2 haha yeah that 'gang' who did loads of the dubs on many of the quality 1's must have had a great time doing them! and yeah they became part of the magic of old fu's. i like JC but i do prefer Sammo overall- i did a top 10 k-fu stars vid a while back and sammo came 2nd -JC 3rd- its on my page if u ever wanna watch.cheers
@Drunkenmaster770 I totally agree with you! JC is more like a pop star of KF when he broke away from the old school to do his signature funny antics. Samo Hung has his own comic trademark and style of classical KF fighting which is more real to me than the contrived comic antics of JC which I find dumb rather than amusing. Is JC intentionally injecting farce at this culture to break the Bruce Lee jinx? Nonetheless Samo Hung and JC are both excellent KF practitioners in real life.
yeah this and that other k-fu 'little superman' are top draw & yes im a big fan of the great fatman! great to see hes still going strong and appearing in 2! upcoming 'ipman' films- havnt uploaded much latley- may do some more soon- ill send u a link to my YT friend who uploads tonnes of top quality k- fu clips
yes some dubs are so bad there great!. this is my 2nd fav k-fu ever behind LODMaster- sadly since the great HKLegends(who released this and a huge amount of the best oldies) company dissolved all there stuff is very hard and expensive to find -and no other company released there 1's in europe- so u may have to try overseas firms like HKFlix who are good 4 other versions- i wish i had snapped up more copies of the HKL stuff cause they are selling now for 5-10 times the original cost!
The greatest thing i realized about past kung fu movies and modern is how long the scenes are. also how in modern day everythings the same, the main character gets his ass whipped and then comes up with some uber strength but never changes really anything about how he fights in order to win just all of a sudden they do. love old kung fu movies. are there any others i should watch? references please! i've seen ip man and its amazin. it reminded me of modern day fearless. but what else
I love old kung fu's so it's hard recommending just a few! as there are so many! classic 1's. as u are a newer more modern fan- ill try some classics made with high production levels- try 'Iron Monkey' (93) Fist Of Legend (94) Legend Of Drunken Master (94) those 3 are high on any truefu fans alltimers list and combine oldskool values with modern quality production levels.
Love this scene but needs to be watched with the original dub. Yeah, Sammo is awesome in this. And it's not just 3.02, Sammo does a lot of small stuff like jumps, kip-ups, crane stance etc...incredible agility for someone his size...
Cool pal. this is from the HKL version.and i hate subs have to keep takingmyeye off the action!.my no2 alltimer behind LODrunkenmaster. warriors two isnt far away!
Only when you are able to read subs and watch action together will you be ready......nah I'm just kidding, but I do prefer subs too. Top class kung fu!
These guys are so good cause they mostly trained from age 6 at Peking Opera, where they really have to do stuff like horse stance for 10 hours balancing bowls full of water on their person for real.
u mean the classic 'pen' rumble!! lol, yeah that was vintage. i still rate this in my all time top 3 fu films with '8 Diagram Pole Fighter' and Legend Of DM!
Yep this was a vintage era for k-fu's ie late 70's early 80's and Sammo productions made some of the greatest fu's ever with no 'cgi/wires/ etc just fearless fu masters and herioc extras!!. yeah 3.02 shows how agile Sammo was [hard to belive as he was/is a bit of a fatty!lol]
sound. SOUND!

My all time fave kung fu movie ever though, along with Odd Couple, Spooky Encounters and Warriors Two.
Watch them subtitled please!!!
I have the remastered HK Legends versions, excellent quality
.I still watch these a few times a year they are THAT good. That Wong Fei hung tune finish still gives me chills.
