Because of embargo, for decades it was next to impossible to do that, once the so-called communist block got destroyed by capitalists. Cuba fell into the abyss when the allies dissapeared and it turned into a poor country in a flash. Now they can import, but the money is scarce. The economy, ruined by embargo , is unable to produce anything to sell for much needed cash. Venezuela;s helping, but tens of billions are needed

Typhoon tip the Strongest Tropical Cyclone had a pressure of 870 mb and 195 mph winds. Hurricane Wilma was the strongest in the Atlantic basin and it had 882 mb with 185 mph winds.

Getting back to the video, Gustav was a freaking monster and now Ike!! I don't have any family in the place that it hit but I do in the place Ike destroyed. In Manati the town is destroyed and the government is finally doing something by serving the people chicharos (Split Pea Pure). Las Tunas is also destroyed. The movie theater is partially destroyed and the two parks there have no trees left. One of my relatives said that his neighbor got his large, roof water tank blowned off by this storm!

Well i will begin again with my support. The lack of jobs is a serious problem but the lack of freedom is the most pressing matter. There is not one Cuban citizen inside Cuba that can speak their mind and the Cuban government not intervene. Some examples are Las Damas En Blanco, Gorki Aguila, and Oscar Elías Biscet with none of them having been doing anything violent against their fellow citizens. Every citizen of the earth has the right to express himself, as you and me are doing right now.

1- Healthcare: Most Cuban hospitals for regular citizens are to the point of being condemned. There is a scarcity of vital drugs such as aspirin and even medical alcohol. Cuban doctors are forced to reuse many of their equipment on many patients (needles, scapels ect) because the state is not willing to provide for them.
2- Education: There is a serious shortage of books (many of it due to censorship) and jobs for that education to be of any use. There is also a lack of post-basic education.

Furthermore beyond healthcare, culture, education, politics ect the most important thing is practical application of those. Cuba has a lack of decent jobs that allow for a higher standard of living. For example, doctors earn about 300 pesos (13 dollars a month), banking supervisors around 190 (9 dollars a month). Food especially meat is around 25 pesos a pound! The state contrary to popular belief, will not build you a house. It is up to the individual to build it by whatever means possible.

Because of embargo, for decades it was next to impossible to do that, once the so-called communist block got destroyed by capitalists. Cuba fell into the abyss when the allies dissapeared and it turned into a poor country in a flash. Now they can import, but the money is scarce. The economy, ruined by embargo , is unable to produce anything to sell for much needed cash. Venezuela;s helping, but tens of billions are needed

Gustav never reached Cat 5 in it's life. It had Maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. The Cat 5 threshold was 156+. This only made Gustav a very strong Cat 4 and Barometric Pressure readings do show it's porportions. Gustav had a Core pressure of 941 mb which a Cat 4 ranges between 944 and 921 mb. Typhoon tip the Strongest Tropical Cyclone had a pressure of 870 mb and 195 mph winds. Hurricane Wilma was the strongest in the Atlantic basin and it had 882 mb with 185 mph winds.

Farthermore there were no Cat 5s in the the 2008 atlantic hurricane season. These other reports of 200+ mph winds are extremely unrealistic and are more qualified to be gusts. Sustained winds are 1 min average wind speed measurements.

150 MPH isn't much of a difference of a Category 5 storm. And they recorded 212 MPH Sustained wind in Cuba from valid and confirmed by the NHC. It appears likely that Gustav will be upgraded to Category 5 status during Post Season.

Getting back to the video, Gustav was a freaking monster and now Ike!! I don't have any family in the place that it hit but I do in the place Ike destroyed. In Manati the town is destroyed and the government is finally doing something by serving the people chicharos (Split Pea Pure). Las Tunas is also destroyed. The movie theater is partially destroyed and the two parks there have no trees left. One of my relatives said that his neighbor got his large, roof water tank blowned off by this storm!

Well i will begin again with my support. The lack of jobs is a serious problem but the lack of freedom is the most pressing matter. There is not one Cuban citizen inside Cuba that can speak their mind and the Cuban government not intervene. Some examples are Las Damas En Blanco, Gorki Aguila, and Oscar Elías Biscet with none of them having been doing anything violent against their fellow citizens. Every citizen of the earth has the right to express himself, as you and me are doing right now.

1- Healthcare: Most Cuban hospitals for regular citizens are to the point of being condemned. There is a scarcity of vital drugs such as aspirin and even medical alcohol. Cuban doctors are forced to reuse many of their equipment on many patients (needles, scapels ect) because the state is not willing to provide for them.
2- Education: There is a serious shortage of books (many of it due to censorship) and jobs for that education to be of any use. There is also a lack of post-basic education.

Furthermore beyond healthcare, culture, education, politics ect the most important thing is practical application of those. Cuba has a lack of decent jobs that allow for a higher standard of living. For example, doctors earn about 300 pesos (13 dollars a month), banking supervisors around 190 (9 dollars a month). Food especially meat is around 25 pesos a pound! The state contrary to popular belief, will not build you a house. It is up to the individual to build it by whatever means possible.

It is only natural that when somebody challenges your conclusion on any level and finds even believable proof against it, your conclusions need to be altered or replaced. It is not only me, there are 1 million people in the US and 11 million minus a few hundred in Cuba that agree with my point. Why does Castro have to be the ruler for 50 years without ever having an election where other parties were permitted to participate? What about the Cubans that are still there that dont want Castroism?Why do they have to flee or be inprisioned for thinking differently?

it's not that they love to live that way! but since ur a kid in school u r taught to love ur country n they tell u it's the best. but if u dont agree w/ it or u talk shit about it, you go jail n they kill u! if ur neighbor snitches on u to the authorities u go to to jail n kill u...the people dont have a choice cuz of fear, so they rather die in the ocean trying to b free then in a nasty cuban prison.i dont disagre some people might do like to live like that, but the majority have no choice...

there is no frustration n no personal anger! pero el sol no se puede tapar con un dedo!!! the truth it's the truth n it's all. i lived there i knw what it's like. i dont knw where u from, or if u even ever LIVED there, not visited but lived it! but what i said it's true. i love cuba & i'm proud of being one, but it is what it is...i risked my life in the ocean @ 12yrs old to be free n get away from that asshole. si tanto te gusta q no puedes ver la realidad solo tu fantasia, vete para alla!

that sucks, when i see this, it makes me greatfull for what i have. iv also been worried about hati. it makes me feel like a clomplainer when i see how the other half lives. i have alot of time on my hand these days, im going to see if there is somthing to get involved with maybe to help out with these people.

I agree,we all feel greatfull for not suffering the terrible natural fenomenoms these people have suffered,hoping to be blessed and never being part of that experience.But there is always something we can do,and that is help, we can organize and start colecting clothes,potable water, durable food and medicine to send them to the International Red Cross.Haiti needs all the help we can give. In venezuela, we have a department to colect domestic donations not only to help Cuba,but Haiti as well.
