  • One of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard on the word "sit'. Thanks for the video.

  • 2 people are Loyalists.

  • You, Tim, Nick and Trudbol should form a superquartet

  • fantastic job! I was wondering what kind of mic you are using?

  • I clearly, on the ending chord, hear a G overtone creating the nine chord sound. BEAUTIFUL!

  • What mic are you guys using? I'm looking for a good one ;) Been looking at studio projects B3...

  • Awesome work, keep it up!!

  • ok who's the wanker which disliked this? you deserve to die

  • nice

  • Can you give a gold medal to just two people? I think you just won it!! LOL

  • Everyone who likes this should check out the ORIGINAL video of this tag on YouTube (albeit not by multitrackers): the youth quartet PRESTIGE!

    v=zDKmDRLQqxw

This is from TWO YEARS AGO!!

  • Who wrote this song? The lyrics make no sense.

  • @Jastro88 They make sense if you take it in context of the musical, 1776. That's where they got the lyrics for this. It's kind of a mash-up of a couple different mantras from that musical. If you go look up a synopsis of the musical and the lyrics of some of the songs, it will probably make more sense.

  • @ZMarquart89

Ah. I see. Thanks for the info.

  • Why don't you take a seat right over there?

  • lol that was HILARIOUS, cute little "whoopsie" move there, great tag, six stars

  • okay, so when i first watched this ... i fell in love, and i was thinking that i loved this other guy, but he looked really familiar, not knowing from where tho. then today i read the little side comment, and realize that i listen to vocal spectrem every chance i get. i love this vidio and i love you :) by far my favorit person on youtube :)

  • This is a RIDICULOUSLY Great tag. Definitely one of the ones that got me inspired to start multitracking.

Firemanbucs, think more positive thoughts about your voice. Like you I top out at G#/Ab but really thats 2 notes away from Tenor high c, C5 which is the highest standard note in Opera repertoire I think. (Wikipedia). Sure there are higher notes but who cares. In pop repertoire a male hardly ever goes above that B,bflat.

If you can hit A in full voice just get lessons to develop your mix.

  • That's what I'm doing. Developing a mix voice with speech level singing. I like to consider myself a 2nd tenor rather than baritone though I hit bass notes rather easily. I just don't warmup :-p)

  • Well as a baritone, I envy you greatly. You have one of the purest sounding voices I have ever heard (second to Bing Crosby lol) On a good I'm only topping out on a high Ab... And it has to be a VERY good day haha.. And by the way Tim it looks like Simon is eating his mic. Must have dipped his mic in some vodka or something. =)

  • @firemanbucs Same for me loll.

  • What is the highest Tim can sing in chest voice? And don't give me the watch him sing 9 octaves smart ass comment. =)

  • Well I'd say most days, I can comfortably sing a high C or C# in "full voice." Good days: I can sing higher & Bad days: not so much! haha. I've trained classically, so it's not a pure chest voice up there.. it's a headvoice/mix, which is better and more comfortable than just flat out belting. Or watch my 9 Octaves video to see me crap out on a G or something like that! ;) - TW

  • i love how every comment you make on youtube is thumbed up massively, because you're just that amazing =3

  • @VSTenor Tim Waurick, in my opinion, you are the best tenor in barbershop. I shook your hand at midwinter in Pasadena a couple years ago. I have purchased Tim Tracks and heard almost everything you have done. I go to UW-Madison and am a real big fan. Thank you for what you have done to barbershop! keep it up! -Jack

  • Dude, I keep listening to this over and over. And among every multitrack person on YouTube, yours are simply the best. Best Bass/Bari locks, best... everything.

  • Finey, what are the chord changes from 0:25 to 0:30? Please tell me.

  • 9-8-7

  • Seems like Simon has neck spasms at the end lulz.

  • Yeah John, sit the fuck down! =P

  • This comment made my day

  • Comment removed

  • Holy cow! This is one of the best tags I've ever heard, any you guys absolutely KILL IT!! When Tim comes in at 0:40 . . . wow. Great job.

    ~Josh

  • I'm sure it's a stupid question, but on what time is the overtone? Kind of new to the whole barbershop-thing :)

  • last note. It is the one with the 4 tone major chord and you should hear a F an octave above the highest F.

  • The very first chord is awesome.

  • First chord? How about all of 'em? :-P

    m. 8 is probably one of my favorite things to sing.

  • man you gotta love the crisp f overtone! :D great work guys.

  • this tag has possibly the best bass/bari lock that ive ever heard

  • That F overtone is so LOUD! I LOVE IT!

  • on the last note Im hearing an F overtone!

  • Yep. Loud and clear.

  • I love this tag so much! Do you have the sheet for it? I would like to do a trumpet tag on this.

  • Every time I listen to this one I have a different favorite chord. 0:21 at the moment

  • interesting...0:25 for me

  • you guys both have pipes of gold

  • omg! my brother like toatly looks up to ya'll. he's in the san marces marcsmen! he's name is trevor crawford. but ya like he thinks ya'll are like ausom

  • I just got chills watching this!! Freaking awesome!! I love it!!!! :)

  • Awesomeness

  • 1776 the musical is a wonderful and passionate muscial - a favorite of mine for so long (listen to it every July 4th). And to hear it like this is breathtaking! I nearly lost it at 0:35 at "for God Sake John . . . sit down!

  • im so jealous of both of you two.

    you guys are incredible

  • Oh wow.

Vocal Spectrum came and sang at the chapter in Arkansas I was a member of. I missed it because I was on a choir trip, but I heard they did phenomenally. How cool that you got to meet him.

  • If I had a choice between a choir trip and getting to see Vocal Spectrum at my chapter, my choir would be needing another Bass for the trip.

  • Oh yea! HELL YEA!

  • Awesome :)

  • I can see these two hooking up in a quartet.

  • hahaha ya never know ;)

  • I had the pleasure to meet Tim, and John Moroni, thru the Ambassadors. I sing with the Belleville, IL chapter now.

  • Pick-up quartet in less than a week, right? :-)

  • this tag is so sweet and so rich I can't seem to help myself from coming back to it daily. Man, what's up with that? :-)

  • couldn't agree more

  • Ah that was great Simon n Tim =D well done!!

  • where've you been? Record something already :P

  • yeah! record something!

  • agreed

  • Feenyleee?

  • Awesome collaboration guys! Sounds great!

  • yeah..hope you dont mind if i taught this tag to a bunch of people...

  • Ugh. This tag inspired me to watch 1776. Not NEARLY as good as this tag...

  • Was Moved. Learned it. Teaching it to everyone. Haha.

  • Approaching 1,776 views...

  • hopefully someone takes a screencap of it, if it gets there

  • Woa... 6 more views till 1776 lol

  • I wonder if it would be possible to find out from YouTube logs exactly who had the 1,776th view?

  • I'd prefer to know who the 1777th viewer was... grrr

  • Damnit... who watched this video 200 more times than it should have been watched?

  • this is probably my favorite tag. great job

  • This is great!!

  • Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!! I'm jealous. Nice job guys!

  • I'm speechless.... Flipping awesome!

  • Also, I can't be sure, but I think the bass in this video goes to the 7th and then resolves to the 6th. It's actually written with the bass jumping the octave from "Be-eee" and the bari moving below the bass and resolving from the 7th to the 6th.

  • Really? I had no idea... I was taught this tag at a Zero8 rehearsal...

  • excuse me sorry, in the key it would be the 3rd resolving to the 2nd. My theory sux lol

  • I aspire to create soul moving videos such as these!!

  • what exatly are the words to this tag?

  • The answer was posted by bordonthestreet, but since there are so many comments now, here are the lyrics again:

    "Till then, till then

I am as I ever was and ever shall be

    Yours, yours, yours, yours, yours...

For God's sake, John, sit down!"

The entire song is in the following video:

    /watch?v=TY3TubZdYqA

The tag is adapted from the John and Abigail Adams duet -- jump to 3;40 in the video for the beginning of the "tag."

  • This is bloody brilliant for sure, but I'm curious; what is going on with the tuning on the second bari/bass note of the word "be"?

I know this sounds picky, but I don't think it really hurts the tag that much. I'm just curious where the lack of a locked chord there is coming from. It's a very delicate chord, so it's kind of hard to tell. Despite the fact that it sounds like a fairly solid interval, I'm thinking the baritone's second note is the source...

    Any thoughts?

  • it definetely doesn't sound right. but far out tim is amazing

  • its a major 7th with the bari and bass a semitone apart making the dissonance.

  • Of course, I could just be so used to barbershop chords that I get all confused when I hear a not-so-barbershop chord sung in a tag.

Anybody know what the four notes sung are at this place in the tag? I could probably answer my own question if I knew and could play around with them on a keyboard.

  • Comment removed

  • From top to bottom:

    F, D, Bb, A

  • Cool, that explains a lot actually. Bb and A are definitely going to break the "locked" quality of the chord. So the chord doesn't only resolve; it goes from dissonant to harmonious in the chord transition. This a really cool effect but, seeing as I have not heard it before in barbershop, I can't help but wonder if it's legal for competition.

Also, I appreciate all the comments posted to humor my curiosity.

  • The combination is not contestable. There are certain rules against the major 7th being in the bass, and as far as I know, the M7 must always be above the root. This tag is pushing the limits a bit as far as that goes, but hey, it's pretty isn't it? =)

  • That dissonance sets up for a BEAUTIFUL resolve when the baritone drops it back into the right key. Holy lord. Does that not give you shivers up the spine?

  • Yes, it does send shivers.

I've watched this video several times -- such a great arrangement and performance!

  • all it is is really just a major 7th,but the bass and the bari are only a semitone apart really, thus the dissonance which makes it sounds sweet

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful tag!! :-)

  • what an awsome tag!

    well done!

  • *stares in disbelief* This is incredible guys! you have the most incredible blend. I'm always so impressed with you both in your own right but put you together and what you have produced here is nothing short of incredible. • IT's about time Tim got involved on youtube. Sweetness!

  • Smooth!!

  • Amazing

  • Absolutely fantastic. I was waiting for you to post another one of these. I wish I knew all 8 parts of your Scarborough Tag so I can try and do it myself, with all credit going to you, of course.

  • Simon aka FineyLeee didn't arrange the Scarborough Fair Tag. It was originally sung by Vocal Spectrum and the Gas House Gang, simultaneously.

  • hoooolllyyyy!!!!

MY EYES WERE ABOUT TO FALL OUT OF ITS SOCKET WHEN I SAW THAT TIM WAURICK WAS GOING TO BE COOP-ING WITH YOU ON THIS TAG!!

    funny on the camera mishap....

besides the infamous ending of this tag...

  • And Saint Simon raises the bar yet again.

    Wow...just..wow.

  • Absolutely incredible. Both masters in this field!

  • holy shit..

    this is like.. EPIC

  • what exatly are the words to this tag? I'm having a hard time understanding...

  • till then, till then I am, as I ever was, and ever shall be;

    yours, yours, yours, yours, yours

For God sakes John, sit down.

  • gracias!

    =)

  • whats the deal with the last line? some inside joke? or is it actually part of the tag?

  • look up some info on John Adams and 1776; but I'm pretty sure it's just some silly tag.

  • In the musical "1776", the Continental Congress tells John Adams to sit down a whole lot. For extra amusement, if you watch the movie adaptation of the musical, John Adams is played by Feeny.

  • its one of the greatest musicals ever!! hahaha

  • ryanbearcat24: The lyrics make sense in the context of the entire song and musical. The beginning of the tag refers to the numerous affectionate letters which John Adams and his wife Abigail exchanged for many years. The lyrics are exaggerated closings to letters each is sending to the other. Since the tag is only the last few of the song, we're hearing the endings of their letters, which John and Abigail often closed with "Yours."

The last line is intentional as explained by graynjah.

  • I should have looked around on YouTube before posting my lengthy (and not very well written) comments concerning the lyrics. Anyway, I think the tag is derived from the first song in the following video posted by WilRogers:

    /watch?v=o7KLmuHWmuY

The tag begins around 2;19, with John and Abigail Adams singing the closings of their letters. When the Congress chimes in, it's a very short reprise of a humorous line from the opening number of the musical.

  • haha check top left on the finish. That's the performer finish haha

  • YEAH!

  • AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    Cool man

  • Aww man... Jealousy is rife...

  • Diggat!

  • WOOOW that's supercool!! Singing with Tim must have been amazing :) Jealousy meter rising... rising... OFF THE CHART!!!!

  • What microphone do you use?

  • More, more, MORE...please!!!

And the Grammy for best multi-track by a duo or group goes to...

  • Man I love your stuff ;) I just love Barber Shop. Me and my friends do it whenever we get a chance up at college. YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
