I think the off spring from ancient times of this Extra terrestrial race and humans are called in the bible the Nephillim. Today's Global Elite. Hence the name Union of the Snake. Obviously the Illuminati controls the Music and Film Industries. I am pretty sure the Illuminati invented all the sports we play. Like Chess, Cricket, Soccer, Rugby, American Football, Baseball and Basketball. In short the Illuminati Sun Cult created western civilization dating back to ancient Egypt.
Notice the All-Seeing Eye of the Illuminati. Thats just to let you know that the Illuminati Sun Cult controls all including the Music Industry. I don't think any Duran Duran members are part of the Illuminati however one thing is clear if you want to be a famous rich musician you have to get the backing of the Illuminati like all Rock/Pop/Classical Musicians and those in the Film Industry. Also interesting title Union of the Snake. I think David Icke talks of the Elites Union with an ET race.
@rohanmarkjay That eye was part of the Duran Duran image during 1982 and 1983. It's on the Rio cover as well. I don't think it has anything to do with the Illuminati. Duran Duran are not Jay-Z lol
@royfeihong its cool huh:) :) talk about memories for me like (io!!! I was 17 years old in 83 ok ok I am showing my age here :) eeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk *L*
An amazing atmospheric song...i play it to death since discovering it last October. It's a shame it wasn't included in 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger'...a wasted opprotunity, that album needed something like this.. it's really a gem.
Apparently Simon and Nick put this song together at the last minute specifically for the B-side of the single "The Union of the Snake". It was just an afterthought - but a great little tune. Some of Duran's best material was never released on an Album... This song, "I believe/All I need to know", "Salt in the Rainbow", "Virus" (the last 2 I made video for on my channel - check them out), "Late bar", "Like an Angel", etc...
Duran Duran is what Music should be.. Music that makes you Dance, Cry , Love , and have Fun.. From Simon LeBon's angelic ethereal voice and his yodeling cries, to Roger's moving Dance beats to John's singing melodic bass, and Nick's ambeient yet beautifully haunting Synth. They are the sound of Music.
Even back in the day Simon was doing his own harmonies- three, I count (correct me if I'm wrong). He has truly grown into one of the greatest vocalists of our time.
Wow...the combination of this song and the record playing are almost hypnotic. I'm taken back to 1983/84, to a certain place...Simon's voice is so beautiful here. You've done an expert job. Thank you for posting this song on YouTube. Duran Duran's best song.
OMG one of their BEST! So exotic, so immaculate. How did this NOT make the album? BS!!! 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' is already a very good album but this addition would have definitely raised the quality. It's sad because most fans (who weren't alive when Union was released) now have to stumble across this hidden gem!
Sing Blue Silver-Who is with me? I would have loved to have attended their concert. I used to LOVE john Taylor and Nick Rhodes; i tried to love Simon, but i just couldn't.
Wow - I remember listening to this B-side like it was yesterday. Sitting on my bed with my record player in the corner and my Duran Duran posters on the wall. Thanks for the memories!
I used to think that Duran fans were crazy, but I found that they are the most helpful folks around. Thank all of you guys for telling me where to find this song. But I had it for a long while now. And listen to it every morning walking my son to school. I even make up litttle music vidoes up in my head. *while walking down the street in Queens* lol Thanks everyone, I got it. Maybe I'll see one of you at the next Duran concert. Just where your Youtube name on your shirt. lol *Good Idea*
One of their best creations, indeed....Later Simon added some extra lyrics to this song which makes it larger and it sounds to me very similar to The Doors...But this original version is perfect! I cant believe they did not include them in the seven and the ragged...album ....The best of the best !! DD, I hope this year they release their new album...

every time i comment on a duran track that is phenomenal or wotever some japan fan appears from under a rock of nostalgia and claims that duran somehow stole the music, the look, the guitars, even possibly davy sylvians after shave making the track. well japan fans- this is one of the best tracks duran duran did...and...if im not mistaken, sounds absolutley fucking nothing like japan.
@gregingram1970 both bands are great IMO. everyone has influences and can not claim everything they do as completely original. but yeah this is one of DD's best.
I live in the hood, thats why I dont think I would be able to find it. But I could go back around my old town to look for it. I just didn't think it would still be at the record stores. Or i could just go into Manhattan to look. Thanks for the info.
@KashaCandy this is on the 3cd set called the singles 81-85 and is track 13 on disc 2 which you can get from play.com or amazon have fun if you still havnt got it yet
I've been a fan since they first exploded on the scene....but this song has ALWAYS been my favorite. Stands the test of time. Knew it when I first heard it.
i meant to say i was aged 12/13 in 1983 on the last comment.
Goosebumps and stirring my imagination. the chorus - so uplifting and haunting. just a hypnotic sound. DD are fucking brilliant at what they do and this is as good as the best bands best tracks. 11/10 for the mighty duran duran.
"i meant to say i was aged 12/13 in 1983 on the last comment."
So was I! I've been writing poetry since adolescence and much of it was influenced by Duran Duran lyrics. Simon's writing is very underapppreciated. He used to write poetry before he joined DD.
Yeah i knew le bon wrote poetry pre duran duran - i think that is where the chauffeur comes from too. it was a bout a girl he was going with he met at a kibbutz and he saw her on top of a tractor...as far as i remember from an interview with le bon.
ye sekrect oktober is amazing. in my all time duran tracks of course. in top 5. le bons word choice is amazing. i just dont get it why people dont get that bit - true gem - and it reflects in his song titles - which one of the things abut duran...
I commented on this 9 months ago. DD will be with me to the grave.
This song - hear around aged 83 on b side to union of snake -which was great single but this was actually a lot better.
DD had a knack at the time to produce material that was either b side or album to surpass their singles. i think that would be common knowledge to duran fans.
as i said, this is a portal to my youth. It is like a trap door to my imagination and the vocal gives me goose bumps.
What makes this extra special for me is that it was a B side and therefore a little hidden gem for Duran fans. I was twelve and played it over and over on my Grandma's record player. My Grandma is sadly not with us anymore but the memories live on thanks to a group who were the soundtrack to my youth. Beautiful.
I was lucky enough to be a teenager during the 1980s. I saw DUran Duran and Wham in concert in their Heyday. While my friends where wham fans - I loved Duran Duran. Listening to this takes me back to the atmosphere of being 14 again - wonderful!
Thank you so much for putting this song on youtube...this is my favorite Duran Duran song....I have the vinyl record I bought 26 years ago!!! I cant believe its been that long...dont have anything to play the record on...
@DoeyTheBird It was in the first Duran Duran box set, which basically consisted of individual sleeves with CD copies of the singles inside. If I recall correctly, the first set went up to "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" and the second one consisted of the rest of the Capitol singles. I was pissed off when I saw exactly what form the so-called box sets offered - just copies of the singles - no outtakes, no extra live songs, no nothing. Bastards!
another great song by Duran Duran. I love this song and thought they should have put it on the Seven & the Ragged Tiger album. Duran Duran's 80's albums were so short and left you wanting more, except Big Thing. I didn't like that one too much.
just beautiful, used to listen to this while looking out of my window when i was young, brings back such memories, not all good unfortunatley, duran kept me alive
It may sound stupid, but being born in 1984 I'm a little bit jealous of the people that lived the eighties. I would have loved to live that decade as an adult...
Simply put, the finest piece Double D has ever done. B sides really rock...so often the very best! Bravo. Thanks, I love this piece. Could and have, listened to it over and over again. Ahhhhh! Brilliant.
Anyone see the ALL seeing EYE on the vynal? A lot of homework for you to do fans this band is all Illuminati based how do I know this cos I met these freaks when I was a child and they have used reptillians to possess me no kidding go away and laugh kids but Im serious!
ah great, you relieve me man, i feared they were part of the Bildesberg group! *relieved* now. no no, you are not a lunatic..just one of those new countless desperate and empty guys repeating like good parrots those new ill crafted theories on illuminatis etc..up to absolute ridicule. :) (ps; yeah, i know, i will laugh less with NWO, on 12.12.2012 and/or when the reptilian army will land from Uburu! etc..oki doki lol)
Wots this about illuminati and DD? That has to be the daftest comment ever. It probably is a triangular all seeing eye shape and it no doubt has been associated with mysticial sub culture powers that want to take over the world but with duran duran? duran duran-or rather Le bon writes a lot about Greek mythology(where arcadia got their name from) and has influenced their viedeos (eg union of the snake) and i think it stirs the imagaination writing about such things and makes interesting reading.
pretty sure it was a play on the title of the marketing company that dsigned the visuals on Rio and other DD projects....Assorted Images..."A" "I"...A-triange I -eye...maybe not but that was the first thing thatc I thought 25 some odd years agao when I first saw it....illuminate...I doubt it
Same here Jeremiy2! I loove this song by DD. People may live " Rio ", " Girls On Film " , " The Reflex", etc. which are cool but this is my all time fav!
One of my all-time favorite Duran memories is when they added this song to their live set list (I think it was when they toured for the "Medazzaland" album). Even though they did it in a completely different arrangement, it was great that they took a fricking *B-side* from almost 15 years earlier and acknowledged its status as a fan favorite. I also remember that back around 1984, both Simon and Nick publicly listed it as being among their own Top 5 favorite Duran Duran songs.
Another dynamite Bside by DD. That was the real attraction to DD, not the glam, but the refreshing, melodic music. It was very different than anything else.
Oh my god...goosebumps when I saw this track on here...god bless you for putting this on! I'm back in my bedroom with my head phones on...thank you from a very young 40 year old!
Duran Duran nailed it on this. Rhodes/Le Bon working themselves on this i think. I often think that its not just the song that makes it special - its the fact that it is associated with youth, imagination, freedom and vitality - of how i felt at the time when first enjoying this song. Just a track that i never get sick of. Sentimental and wonderful.
You're right about Nick and Simon doing it themselves. The story about it is in Nick's liner notes for the "Essential: Night Versions" CD. He said that they spent so much time mixing "Union Of The Snake" and its 12" mix that in the end they only had 24 hours to come up with a B-side before the single had to be delivered to EMI. This would explain the absence of the Taylors on the track... they must not have been around, and there was no time to get them into the studio.
@gregingram1970 Pretty much what you said. Part of the soundtrack to my growing up in high school. Great memories. Also, for some reason this song helped me through a few difficult times.
One of the must surprising things of duran duran was the b sides on the singles... After get and album the second most important things was get the single because you will get always and extra bonus keep doing it.. and make a difference. All the dueranies miss that.
This is the first time I've heard the entire B-side. Up until now, I've only heard the part that's included at the end of the Blue Silver VHS/DVD... nice!
I had this record, and when I was in my early twenties my sister and I moved out of our apartment, and she left my records in the back of the moving truck, it rained and all of my records got ruined. Haven't heard this song since then. It's wonderful to hear it again.:)
Did you know that Simon and Nick wrote and recorded this song in one night? And it's one of the best things they've ever done. I used to have a jukebox with every single 45 by Duran Duran in it (plus a bunch of other stuff), and out of the 200 sons in the jukebox, this was the most played song, because I loved it so much. I still do.
this is the sound of many snowy mornings ...the depth of winter briefly broken by the sound of the sun crashing through my eyes...awakening my heart to my night's hollow dreams.
this song is as hauting, melancholic, alluring, wonderful and just so good. duran are the regarded as the finest of the 80s souns. this song is a portal to being 13 and wondering how a song could hook me so much. Simply terrific...duran songs like this are as fine as any great bands body of work best.
We has a jukebox at my junior high back in 84 and the kids used to play this song EVERYDAY! Needless to say I love this song now. I remember looking hard for it on a 45 in the 80's to no avail. Thank goodness for Ebay! I own it now.
oh I DO have this song on record! lol! someone asked earlier and I said I thought I had it on a tape, but that is another old rare Duran song. I have this single on 45 rpm! Man...time flies!!
Wow I LOVE this song and the record player.... oh man it takes me back. Can't beat the sound of vinyl! This video is so simple yet so artistic... KUDOS!
love.

@DoeyTheBird guess they released it on the singles 81-85
levisguy53 6 months ago

One of the best hidden jems from the 80s.

just beautiful, used to listen to this while looking out of my window when i was young, brings back such memories, not all good unfortunatley, duran kept me alive

A lot of homework for you to do fans this band is all Illuminati based how do I know this cos I met these freaks when I was a child and they have used reptillians to possess me no kidding go away and laugh kids but Im serious!
essy111 2 years ago
ah great, you relieve me man, i feared they were part of the Bildesberg group! *relieved* now. no no, you are not a lunatic..just one of those new countless desperate and empty guys repeating like good parrots those new ill crafted theories on illuminatis etc..up to absolute ridicule. :) (ps; yeah, i know, i will laugh less with NWO, on 12.12.2012 and/or when the reptilian army will land from Uburu! etc..oki doki lol)
sunset002007 2 years ago
Wots this about illuminati and DD? That has to be the daftest comment ever. It probably is a triangular all seeing eye shape and it no doubt has been associated with mysticial sub culture powers that want to take over the world but with duran duran? duran duran-or rather Le bon writes a lot about Greek mythology(where arcadia got their name from) and has influenced their viedeos (eg union of the snake) and i think it stirs the imagaination writing about such things and makes interesting reading.
gregingram1970 2 years ago
pretty sure it was a play on the title of the marketing company that dsigned the visuals on Rio and other DD projects....Assorted Images..."A" "I"...A-triange I -eye...maybe not but that was the first thing thatc I thought 25 some odd years agao when I first saw it....illuminate...I doubt it

I also remember that back around 1984, both Simon and Nick publicly listed it as being among their own Top 5 favorite Duran Duran songs.
kiffa71 2 years ago
Another dynamite Bside by DD. That was the real attraction to DD, not the glam, but the refreshing, melodic music. It was very different than anything else.

One of best duran duran's songs, I think.
May be I was influensed from them, but I can't
write such a mysterious song.

Sentimental and wonderful.
gregingram1970 3 years ago 15
You're right about Nick and Simon doing it themselves. The story about it is in Nick's liner notes for the "Essential: Night Versions" CD. He said that they spent so much time mixing "Union Of The Snake" and its 12" mix that in the end they only had 24 hours to come up with a B-side before the single had to be delivered to EMI. This would explain the absence of the Taylors on the track... they must not have been around, and there was no time to get them into the studio.
kiffa71 2 years ago
Interesting story! For Nick and Simon to just spontaneously come up with such an exotic track demonstrates their natural talent! Duran Duran forever!

@gregingram1970 Pretty much what you said. Part of the soundtrack to my growing up in high school. Great memories. Also, for some reason this song helped me through a few difficult times.

I still do.
kiffa71 3 years ago

Wise on a birthday party, in a world -
Full of surprising fireworks and sudden silence. (shh)
Lies on a stranger's bed the new day breaks, like a speeding train
Or an old friend ever expected, but never knocking..
Holding your own in a battered car,
All night parties cocktail bars -
And smile when the butterfly escapes the killing jar

Hey baby, can you put in the rest of the lyrics to this...you have hit it on the money...thanks lovey!!!

One of the best Duran songs.
Reminds me of good times in the 80s.
Therefore I ve got it on 12" (B side Union of the Snake)and CD (Box set singles) and now on many compilation CDs for the car. So atmospheric
