  • i wish fireflies were actually like that.....maybe its just where i live

  • you guys think like Seita if you think the aunt was being serious about asking seita to get his own water. she and seita were engaging in power play, the aunt by making things difficult for them and seita by not apologising and being stubborn. i think all the aunt wants is an apology and more gratitude and humility from seita for taking them in despite wartime, and a promise to help contribute and not "do nothing all day and ask for free food "

  • I wish I could find a place like that.... full of fireflies....

  • The more hate the aunt receives the more I sympathize with her.

People don't know about wars at all. Don't know a whit about desperation, their bellies full whenever they want.

Even at the beginning of the move, the candy drops meant a lot. War drags on= it gets worse.

If it was between my family and some strangers, I would do what the aunt did too, without shame... and almost without hesitation. If being a "beautiful" person means I compromise my family, I'd rather be ugly.

  • To be honest, I don't think Seita would've went back with the Aunt even if they found him alive. She insulted his father and broke her promise to his mother. But I guess she has a lot of things going through her head as well.

  • The little girl is pronouncing thank you the way she corrected the aunt for.

  • that aunt is so stupid. then she should've not get pregnant with 6 kids then. dayum. her fault for having so much damn kids. sheesh

  • @geewonkim That geewonkim is so stupid. No wonder. He didn't listen and watch at the movie carefully. Its your

fault for not watching carefully and for having a IQ of 1% Damn idiot. Sheesh

GOD SHE ONLY HAS 4 OF HER OWN CHILD AND SHE LET THE OTHER 2 CHILD IN HER LIFE AS A PROMISE TO THIER MOTHER TO HELP THEM.

  • Why am I so obsessed with this movie when it's the saddest thing I ever saw?

  • I'm really sad for Seita-kun and Se-chan and Its horrible what they've been through but I can't really hate on their aunt either because though she's a little harsh, she's just doing what everyone else is doing, trying to get by. Still, she could be a little more fair to them by maybe having everyone in the house take it in turns each time to have less food. I dunno if that's a silly idea but still...

  • HOw the hell did he catch so many fireflies? 0_O

  • Guys The Aunt has a very hard life 3 reason

    - Has to feed 6 childrens and 2 adults

    - Doesnt have enough food for everyone

    - Difficult taking care of everyone

  • @Johnnylee19

arnt the 1st and second reason kinda the same? although anouther good reason would be the death of her husband.

  • @amberaztec no not really she has to feed them but she doesnt have enough food

  • omg that aunt of a bitch, doesnt she know shes forcing it, "Seita-san...If you'r going to live on your own, you must provide your own water." now they hav nothing they need at the house, meaning its mostly her fault that they left, make more sense now since i always thought it was seita own fault in the anime

  • the son seems to not be sick anymore so why still be a greedy asshole

  • Anime is sadder

  • seita-kun's aunt is the one who promise seita's mother to protect their children if things happen to worse, but it didn't happen for long. I understand their aunt but she could have say it in a nice way and not to make any reverse psych or something bad. how sad

  • Just drop the damn A-Bomb and put these fuckers out of their misery already!

  • That aunt is pretty rude but BOY SHE SURE IS PRETTY

  • producer + the film crew = the worst team but story line is great..

  • Sometimes adversities bring out the worst in human nature. Bertrand Russell once said "Fear is the source of all cruelty". I find this war film so moving. I HATE war and what it does to people.

  • Great Sibling Love (Y) !

  • Its actually Seita's Family Resources As in Ingredients those.

  • if that was my aunt , and if i was Seita, I would have raped her so hard in the bagina // shes so hot

  • @hohohee1 HAHAHAHAHAHA, u just made my day xD

  • SHE STOLE THEIR RICE! I'm still pissed about this.

  • ok, the baby's cries is getting really irritating now.

  • WAIT WAIT WAIT A MINUTE. HOW DID HE FIT 50 FIREFLIES IN HIS HANDS???

  • Seita´s aunt is a pretty woman.)

  • @alosaint but a cold hearted bi*ch!

  • but the aunt she would look after setsuko... and anyway seita wont be working all day right? just in the afternnon but home for dinner and breakfast... its hard for the aunt to take care of them if seita is all full grown but not willing to contribute... the aunt has some young kids and sick son, but they all still do their part to help get more resources...

its selfish, but seita and sesuko is not the aunt's children... she doesn't have responsiblity to care for them.. but she is still doing

  • his hands is like mary poppins bag

  • Now that woman is just using her husbands brother.

  • i don't understand why seita didn't just work or go to school

  • @fairyxlights because he had to stay with Setsuko. she had nowhere to go. These aren't modern times. Taking her with him was out of the question.

  • @xxIreneCaffeine i didn't mean he could take her with him, the aunt could've just kept her at the house since she was too young to work.

  • @fairyxlights Setsuko is too young to be left alone for extended periods of time. The aunt would definitely not be willing to drag Setsuko with her everywhere, and Setsuko wouldn't like that either. Seita was trying to keep her happy. If the aunt left Setsuko alone she could hurt herself or get into their food or something. Think of it this way, even today, people do not leave four(?) year olds home alone. They hire babysitters. Seita has to act as one.

  • things here and in the anime are different here the daughter actually cares for and about seita in the anime she pretty much just went with what her mother said

  • why was that women smiling when they went away? wat the heck?

  • wow, he should win guiness world record for most fireflies caught in 5 seconds

  • The Aunt is teaching him some common sense and humility. he should share and be humble. He is so ego and think that he deserve everything.

  • Both sides were flawed: the aunt's bitterness affected the innocent toddler, and Seita was prideful.

What the director of the anime intended was Seita to be prideful because he did not apologize to his aunt and did lead to his sister's death. Yet, even to the directors, he ended up sympathetic. I suppose this live action film redemns this intention with success. You get an understanding of both sides.

  • 'I didn't drive them away.' ?! Oh of course she did!

  • that women is a bitch

  • Honestly, I think they made this movie to look like the aunt was the "good guy" in the anime, all of you guys would not even make ONE comment about how the aunt has is bad. I'm kinda mad how they made the Seita look like the "bad guy" this is a semi-autobiographic novel by Akiyuki Nosaka. We don't know what happened, but if they made the aunt so involved in the anime (The one that came out first) maybe she was the bad guy.

  • I would be pissed off if I was Nosaka and I saw this mixed some "Good guy, bad guy" thing. Don't get me wrong, even when I watched the anime first, I'm kinda hating Seita right now. Haha.

  • さっきジブリの方も見てきたけど、この子達の演技は秀逸やな

  • I did'nt know she would go this far. pathetic. she lost her soul

  • 戦争の悲惨さ命の尊さを忘れさせないために、蛍の墓は永遠になくしてはならない映画だと思います。

  • The boy needs to help out period. It's his need to "be a man"and follow his fathers orders about taking care of his sister, that has caused all this trouble. His aunt can't or shouldn't have to figure out where all their meals are coming from, when he won't even help.He gives his mothers ring, only after the aunt has a talk with him about it.Then he expects there to be plenty of rice for he and his sister from then on....He needs to grow up and HELP OUT

  • that aunt of their's is gettiing on my nerves more and more. seriously shes so shelfish! shes mad and takes her problems out on them even though they didnt do anything >.>

  • @Cherrybliss9XP you just said it. thats the whole point of their fight. seita isnt doing anything and there isnt enough food. either seita needs to work or get out.

  • Tcrlaf it's Americas fault that ppl their are so fat.. I know this because I'm American .. I'm the only skinniest person in my whole family,..

I didn't want to go to restaurants .. I ate right .. Studied hard ..japan ain't as rich as America in dis time period!!!!! So stop saying America is poor cuz most ppl there have jobs and in asia a lot are really poor that's why I have a goal to help ppl there!!!!!

  • @KaliMendez15 well your probably the dumbest too, several grammar errors in that comment.

  • @KaliMendez15 LOL you're saying you're american but you can't type english correctly. LOLOLOL you don't even know how to use punctuations

  • 最悪な オバチャン

  • The aunt is like that because of the death of her husband that's why on the first part of the movie seita's cousin explained to her mother that they were the ones who kill seita - kun and se - chan because of the way they rationed and sold their mothers ring

  • @uchiha11198

OK, *now* the aunt is getting on my nerves ... telling them to find their own water to wash their dishes ... jeez... and it's a shame she wasn't willing to swallow her pride and accept money from her brother before driving the two kids away.

But I see your point, that her husband's death changed her. And I think something like that is what happened to Seita, with his mother's death and his father's silence -- he was afraid to leave Sechan even to work, in case he lost her too.

  • i didnt know there was a live action to this!

now i must start form the beginning of this...was this a tv movie? and which came first, the anime or the live action?

sorry for asking these questions, but im just curious

  • this was a tv movie; this particular version came out in 2005; a newer one was made and released in 2008.

The anime came first, originally written and produced in 1988. The anime is different from this live action one because the live action one is told through the perspective of the aunt where as the anime focuses on the siblings more.

  • the anime movie

  • well the book first later the anime movie and in the end this live auction dorama

  • I can kinof see this from both points of view. Seita only had his fathers orders. That is all he had left, and he failed to protect his mother so now he is trying twice as hard for Setsuko. The Aunt has a hard enough time feeding her own children later on. She doesn't need a freeloader that does nothing but eat.

  • In the anime version they made it seem like the mother was just a bitch. But I like this version too, it kinda tells an untold story on how it got to this point.

I'd enjoy reading the book if I could find it...hopefully translated.

  • you mean thte aunt?

  • Setsuko rules!

  • I don't know... I get the feeling that Seita-kun is the one that's made to look like the "bad guy" here :P well at the last scene anyway. The aunt's opinion about Seita not working WAS right but I think right now it looks like she's enjoying her power over everyone :P

  • Seita should've have worked. He was freeloading way too long and i'd be pissed off if i was the Aunt. Also the Aunt works hard in the fields and has a bigass family to feed. Its frustrating & hard in her position

  • this movie is sad, but the animation one is WAY better !

  • When I said I understand the aunt I didn't say that the kids didn'T have it hard its just that everybody had a tough time so thats no excuse for them because everybody was in trouble and fighting to survive an Seita wasn't that young anymore...

  • That is one rude aunt! It's her fault she had so many children! She just had to have a boy! Ofcourse parents will always look after their own children before other chidren, I don't blame her on that. But think about it, if someone you hardly even know moves into your house and use your water, space, and food for free, u would be kind of pissed off woulden't you? And if they had a little kid and the kid starts to scream and cry, i would be so pissed off i would kick them out of the house. >:(

  • Yes, so true. always look out for your family b4 others...........isnt that wat Hes doing tfor his sis?....think bout it, the aunt is just a dumbass greedy bastard. Wen they moved into seita's moms house oooo they was treated wit care, wat they get in return, shit!....well its sad to kick your own cousins out of the house,...............its just sad theres actually another person like their aunt.

  • Look at your OWN starving, sick children, then get back to us. In America, we have the FATTEST poor people on the planet. We are a nation that hasn't known anything even approaching starvation conditions for over 140 YEARS. Europe for over 60. It's hard for the average westerner to put themselves in, or even understand, a desperate situation

  • It's only getting to get sadder and sadder now...

Hopefully they start focusing on Seita and Setsuko now.

  • i love it

  • aww setsukos so adorable!

  • wow, that was a bit too long of a response :P I see your points, and yea that is what I meant by self-righteous because of the way people are responding, it makes it seem like if they were in the same situation they would be able to handle this in a calm and sensible way. But the reality is that they are not in that situation and so I feel it is wrong for people to judge the aunt so harshly. Yea, she did bad things but she is not a bad person in my opinion...

  • And no, you are being completely black and white about the situation and not taking anything into consideration except a screaming child. There is more to the story than that, for the people who are actually able to see it. And you cannot say that you would not act the same way cause you are not in that situation so stop trying to be all self-righteous.

  • Hey, she was taking care of them very well for the longest time and in my opinion, Seita was being very selfish by not going and working...yea he wanted to take care of his little sister, but he did not NEED to, contrary to what you think (and by the way, your response is just YOUR opinion too, not facts.) Yes his father told him to look after her WHICH HE COULD STILL DO because it is not like he is leaving and never coming back. He would go and work for the day and then come back.

  • i know, but i am saying that i understand the aunts POV much better after seeing this live action version because it is not entirely her fault. Setsuko may have just been a child doing childish things, but in a time like this when everyone is living on edge and in fear of what is to come the next day, and the aunt has so many people she has to take care of, I understand why she did the things she did, and it is just a bit irritating when people blame her without looking at the whole situation

  • i hope their aunts water supply gets cut off

    she deserves it

  • Selfish aunt.

    that's Seita's MONEY!!!!

  • but what about the food that was provided before? that was the aunt's money. and she even sold her kimonos, too.

  • well they got it right when they remade it the quality of the film could have been better oh and setsukos charicter was great however seta could have been better

  • omg how cruel can u get cant even share the water :(

  • The director of the movie actually stated that he wished people would have been more critical of Seita's bad decision making

  • I really feel for the Brother of the Aunts dead husband. He has a limp and all he can think of is looking after his remaining family. I might sound thick in saying this, it could just be his warm affection, but DOES he love the Aunt? Sometimes I really do wonder...anyway I do love his character! and though there is not much of him, he is my fave. :)

  • yeah but she was missing her mum...her mum had died...and of course she wants attention she's a kid she's scared and wants to be comforted by her mum but her mum's not there she's dead.

  • i know that and i am not saying that she should not be missing her mom. i feel bad for her and seita that their mom died, but what i am saying is that much of the time, she is just crying because she wants people to appease her and in this kind of situation when everyone is suffering, that is not what they need...

  • Uh... no, they don't. I never got bitten before and I don't think they will.

  • And you think that things would get better for the aunt after Seita and Setsuko left, but they only got worse for her.

  • i will keep crying to the end.

  • "get ur own water?" ooo i wanna hurt that woman.

  • so do i. ugh.

  • The Aunt just asked that Seita work and contribute. She has her own kids to look after and Seita and his sister are draining their resources while not doing doing anything to help. The Aunt is not evil- losing her husband, her son being ill, her neighbourhood association pressurring her about Seita not working and being in a war forced her to be more ruthless. The whole point of the live edition is to see it from the Aunt's POV so people should do this before thinking she's a heartless b*tch.

  • I agree. Nothing excuses bad behavior done during war. However, you have to see it from the POV of the characters being portrayed. This makes more fleshed out sense then it's even going to get. Not only that--and not to downplay it--but Seita and his sister could have been treated much much worse.

  • Thats correct. They possibly had been killed in the shelter together with their mother or the like, but it s a shame for the family of the aunt nevertheless. She made a promise, assumed responsibility for the two kids - even worse as they are close relatives - and failed miserably. Surely, Seita should had joined the douin instead of playin Setsukos bodyguard, but if already the death of her husband made the aunt this fragile, seita took the right decision. She s the adult, the responsible!

  • you just said everything i have been thinking and trying to get across. as far as i am concerned, this is not a sob story about two children forced into despair and eventually unnecessary death...this is about more than one story...the aunt had her story as did her daughter and the other characters. if you think this is supposed to be a story only about seita and setsuko, you are sadly mistaken and you need to open your mind and think a bit harder into it. it is about suffering for many people

  • @stuk86 no way she is still a selfish bitch

  • Pride can be seen as either vanity or nobility, in the aunt's case it's the former while in Seita's case it's the latter, the kitchen scene was too much and probably if he and his sister stayed longer in that house the aunt would next time say "if you want to be independent, live in your own house!" Seita was only being noble by leaving their aunt's house as staying longer would probably have siphoned the remaining dignity Seita and Setsuko has and would've made the aunt something more evil

  • That's the one thing I disagree with the aunt, about the water.

  • pride, honor and stubborness at its finest. however, I can agree with both fronts of the aunt and seita.

she wanted him to buckle down and work, while he went with honoring his father's orders to take care of se-chan.

I think his devotion to his little sister was so immense because of the fact that he probably felt guilty for the death of his mother.

  • Two stubborn people butting heads

  • omggggg. DID YU SEE THE AUNTS SMILE WHEN THEY WERE MOVING OUT!? OMGOMGOM *KICKS*

  • what a B****!!! thats all i have to say!

  • I understand why the aunt is doing what she did, but I think she is a bit too much. The siblings are from a high caste family, so it makes sense that they don't understand certain things...

  • During war there is not much time for thinking about consideration.

  • I'm not really liking Matsushima Nanako in this. I liked her better in HYD. :3

  • I have watched this series animation, it was the 1st animation thst make me cry. I don't event know their have it in drama, thanks for uploading it. What a great story.

  • thank you for uploading this.

  • The piano melody is awesome, it fits this drama.

  • Oh how sad...she's still crying for her mom. ._.

Seita knows exactly how to cheer her up though.

  • Bye bye Setsuko :(

  • Wow, all-star cast but TERRIBLE quality. It looks too modern... it just can't deliver that feeling that the anime did.

  • Who are they? I've seen their faces before I know that...but GAH. >.<

  • Matsushima Nanako (Forbidden Love), Inoue Mao (Hana Yori Dango), Kaname Jun... but the main boy/sestsuko, I think aren't that well-known... at least, I've never seen them.

  • "If you're going to live on your own, you must provide your own water"

    Now that's going too far.

  • I agree with you 2 but at the same time, there were no pipes running in the house so people had to get water at the stream or sumwhere. but at the same time, water is for free so she should give it to them.

  • Auntie looks pretty with her hair down :O

  • I agree she looks pretty with her har down, but she is a bitch. A pretty bitch, but still a bitch.

  • Eh, ..I hate to say but I have to agree with her on some points- Seiya cares too much for his sister and himself and should've got a job or something. *Shrug*

  • so good thank u
