What makes the King James Version so special to certain fanatic fundie sects? It was compiled by Royal committee under the auspices of the first Stuart King, who was not known for his excessive piety or tolerance for dissenters against the official English Church.

Although it has some beautiful prose, it is full of mistranslations.

It's not even the first English translation of the Bible that gained popularity. Why not the Tyndale or Geneva translations?

The other versions of the Bible are not "perversions". They are simply different translations. The Bible was written in Hebrew and depending on the translation, it can vary. Not by a large scale but grammar can change.

Don Quixote was written in Spanish and has been translated by many different people. One copy will vary from another. That does not make them perversions of the original.
