I'm playing around with the newly downloaded demo of x-plane at EGLL/LHR and I'm taking off 27L in the BAW772 and all of a sudden I see birds and I'm like "ohhhh s***" and then my windshield was full of blood and my engines dead... 150 feet off the runway.
I still find the C172 more challenging to land just right than most planes because of it's wing design's resistance to stall at a high angle of attack.
terrible landing, you could easily have lifted off again. In real life landing a cessna at that speed with that much crosswind would mean a very unstable rollout
@keeevan - Yeah, it depends on exactly which direction the wind was coming from, and how strong/gusty. He should have been below the IAS gauge's green arc as he crossed the runway threshold though. You want to be very close to stall (bottom of white arc) as you begin rotation for touchdown. Otherwise, you go to rotate, the C172's lift and drag increases enough to lift back off the runway, and then almost immediately stalls. I'm sure you know this though. Just info for newbies really.
@johnmunoz18 - So fake that the FAA approves the commercial version of X-Plane 9 to be used for training commercial pilots. Something Microsoft's Flight Sims haven't ever obtained from the FAA.
@CmdrGendoIkari ok douche bag, x-plane uses some wind tunnel crap physics that arnt as good as FSX or microsoft FLIGHT so therefor, x-plane sucks...the only thing good about x-plane is the realistice runways and the bird strikes
Awesome video! Just ordered my copy of X-Plane today. Been playing FSX for such a long time, I wanted a simulator that is just different, so I am hoping to find some awesome simulation with X-Plane.
i actually saw how these propellors are built, i thought they would be much stronger...but then those cessna engines arent any stronger than your every day american SUV so i guess an interference would mess somthing up 0_0
it took out a 767 on flight sim landed 1 engine in heavy crosswinds after 6 hour flight-i nearly spent 5.30 hours of my life to nearly crash and 30 mins of manual flight to screw up-but im good so... :)
Nice!

i would think in real life the aircraft control tower would tell you that there are birds on the runway.

those birds can come out of nowhere on xplane!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
kind of unrealistic, because i dont think a small bird would damage the engine or prop
pilotofa787 2 years ago
So, it seems you have never flew a small airplane before. It can be a very serius situation to hit a bird in a Cessna.

/watch?v=uYNpB-8_BSo bird nearly damaged a 757's jet engine.

@bachian
yeah with that speed: its the speed the bird is flying at PLUS the speed of the plane so that is one hell of an impact.
Silencer84 1 year ago
@bachian did you engine go out on its own when this happened? because i did the same thing in xplane and my engine kept going until i put it in idle
GMSamuelRhine 1 year ago
@pilotofa787 your comments are utter nonsence birds can cause heavy damage to aircraft.

@pilotofa787
Not even just in a Cessna. Take the Hudson River crash landing for example. An Airbus A320 taken down by birds.

can any 1 tell me which is easier on memory and space. X-plane or
FSX? cuz i have fsx right now and i can only turn up graphics 4 planes only
creeperreaper71 2 years ago
It depends how much you put the graphic sliders to the maximum.
In geral I think X-Plane demands much less processing power.

it definatly does...i have both, i would know lol
