This really is a bad piece of advice. Think of it this way, RAW is the uncompressed image taken directly from the image sensor. JPEG is a way of compressing the image to reduce its size. It doesn't magically makes your images better looking, or perform post production on them, as inferred here. This is like ripping a CD to MP3, only to then throw the CD away? Shoot RAW where ever possible to give you the greatest flexibility when editing and creating different versions, like JPEG, for publishin
if you go and print your film you do not throw away your negative. why not? because when you make copies, prints at certain sizes or big enlargements, what do you bring to your local photoshop? your negatives!!! and not your 4x6 prints for scanning. shooting ONLY jpeg is equal to burn all your negatives as soon as you have the first print in your hand.
Can anyone tell me whats the difference between the D40x and the D60, at the moment I have a D40x and wondering if its worth upgrading to the D60. Thank you
I have handled it for a while. Some good features but lacks some aswell. If you are a DSLR user, the D40 is good. If, however you are a more advanced DSLR user maybe go for the D60 pr D80.
I have a 46in. LCD Television that'll allow me to show my photos on screen. What I'd like to do is transfer my photos from my Nikon D60 onto photoshop elements 7 --- edit them --- them somehow transfer them by to my memory card in order to view the newly touched images on my LCD television. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance to all those who answer.
by far the easiest way would be to burn your touched up pictures onto a DVD and just play it on the TV. of course, this is assuming you have a DVD player (pretty safe assumption?).
Nice little explanation of RAW imaging. For those looking at buying a camera, once you're above 10MP and processing images through photoshop its impossible to tell what camera the image was taken from except from the meta data. The No1 thing to be sure of when buying a camera is that it feels comfortable in your hands. If the camera feels natural when holding it this will reflect in your photography. Personally I'd only go for a Nikon or Canon.
@dipshitarsewipe its better to save the money on the actual camera bodies, because you are going update them relatively quickly. spent the saved money or even more on the LENSES because prime lenses are going along your way for many years from camera body to body to body...
Basically, he explains thar RAW is the equivalent to the negatives used in the negative, offering maximum controll for editing later on the computer, but again, they require that you do that to get better pictures, unlike JPEG which can be processed and edited directly on the camera.
i was looking for a camera myself and did some research.
first the nikon atracted me because of its beautiful pictures and so but if you read the specs. of nikon D60 and canon 450D and sony A300-A350 (the choises i had) i`m going for the canon for sure!! the pictures of the canon are better also the collers and contrasts. nikon has no liveview (canon does) and no braceting??? and i wanted that.. canon does have it. also the viewfinder is better by the canon. nikon has no AF to btw.
so the lenses you need are more rara and more expensive with the nikon. so for me the canon is nr`1 sony 2 and nikon 3 oh and sony is also a highly recomended camera only the shame is that he takes ugly pictures in the dark.
(i hope you can read al this hehe cause my english sucks sometimes.) greets and good luck with it!
The lenses are not rare! Nikon make loads of lenses...you are kind of talking rubbish...and not only is the Nikon streaks ahead of the Sony it is also better than the canon too! You are very biased with no reason for being so!
i did my homework and read a lot of reviews and tests .beside that i can see for myself witch one is better! (i`m not a noob)
its a fact that the nikon d60 has no bracketing and no af in the body and also no liveview. and now your side of the story. you said i`m talking rubbish but you dont have any facts that your right isn`t it?? another thing, you dont know anything about camera`s if you say that nikon(D60) STREAKS ahead of the sony.
Considering the fact that I get payed to sell these cameras I know which ones are better! Nikon cameras are the best out of the 3 makes. The D60 is especially great for the money. AF in the body is irrelevant when you have the great VR AF-S 18-55mm lens...and if you buy a 55-200mm lens then you are laughing! You are very biased in your opinions, but upon testing all the cameras the Nikons come out on top! Nikons light sensors are superior to sonys!
haha your selling camera`s???? dont make me laugh! you ask somebody on youtube about RAW onto the compact flash and then save Jpeg Fine onto the SD?? nice salesman you are then lol! i guess you where a pilot last week to then.
and wy is nikon D60 cheap? because it has no af in the body. and about that lens 55-200? that is kind of a concession lens and not recomended. btw i never said the D60 was a bad camera! i`ve only told there where better ones. and yes i`ve used al 3 of them to try.
Ofcourse there are better cameras! Buy a D3 and you'l have a better camera! But in the D60's range it is the best one there is! Also why would I ask that when the D60 doesnt even have compact flash?
I have my mind set on the NikonD90 with 18-200mm lens,i checked various websites and usualy all of them give pluses and minuses about it, what would be your suggestion?considering there is the cheaper alternative from cannon, im not looking to buy something cheaper,im trying to figure witch would be the best semi-pro digital slr,and also i might be wrong but i have the feeling that the percentage of proffesional photographers useing nikons is higher than the rest useing other brands,am i right?
okè its 3 weeks after you asked this lol. a 18-200 lens is quit good but its way better that you have a 18-55 lens and a 55-200 as well. 18-200 is an kind off all round lens and ist better for your quality that you have more than 1. one last tip, dont go for the cheapest lens (kit lens) when you give a bit more money you have a better one and much more quality.
I would like to know how can we use the RAW image and what all changes can we do that we can't with the jpeg image. I'm asking this coz these days a lot of photographers use Photoshop so is it really required to take RAW images?
The Canon 40D is a great all around "Advanced Amateur" level camera. As far as "for macro and everything"...well, to shoot Macro you need a macro lens; the camera itself is irrelevant in that regard. And if by "and everything" you mean every other possible kind of photography...well...like I said, it's a great all-around camera for an Advanced Amateur. Helpful?
Hey, can anyone of you help me? when i bought my nikon d60 i realised there were some scratches when i looked through the viewfinder, and it appears that the scractches are from the focusing lens inside the cameras body right above the mirror. does normal warranty cover it? or must i just get a new focusing lens? i just got my nikon d60 today :(
Very basic; it would of been nice to include more detail on the difference between the two file types, it was however unbiased and accurate... something a lot of people lack.

how do i change the quality of my camera (panasonic G1) from Jpeg to Raw??

What tripod are you using in your videos?
BuddyTVTest 1 year ago
That's a strange (wrong) way to explain things.
(If you need to retouch your raw images then you'll also need to retouch your jpegs.)
If you want to work with jpeg all you have to do is converting the file.
Raw files contain much more informations than jpegs (more colours, more details...), you will lose them for ever with compression.

A d80 has a tv output on the side, i think the d60 also has that obility.

if you dont do the dvd option, you can always get a SD Card reader, for a couple bucks and use that to transfer images back.
