@Gymnast1496 I can, but it's the fact that you told how old you were. If you said something like ''Yay guys, I can finally do a cross after a year of practice! :D'' I wouldn't mind it, but now you just sound like a bragger :x
see but there are bound to be like Chinese and Russian guys that could smash this attempt and the record, just that they dnt show it. i really cant see the world record at cross being that impressive.
@Brownieversion1 Not many people can do the cross for a few reasons. 1) They don't train for it, 2) they train improperly and train with bent arms (which is 100% easier), 3) they don't have the time to train for it. The cross in itself is not extremely impressive, but I doubt there are many random non-gymnasts who can do it (properly).
No need to be rude...I've never used rings and at the moment can't find any. Besides, at my current weight of 94 kg I would never do the cross. But if I find rings, one of my ultimate goals is a 5 second cross at 85 kg.
No need to be rude... but he maintains position 22 seconds sharp. Not 30. And I seriously doubt this is the record. More than 1000% sure that Irodan Iovchev can beat that...twice, at least.

That dude is freakishly strong. I have a set of rings, and spent the latter half of this past year just trying to work up to a cross, at all. Not there yet, goal for 2010 is to get to a good cross. This guy is out of this world tho, 30 seconds in a cross is just amazing.
@TheGymPress its all about determination and making sure you can get good time with your coach. ive been working with mine for only 2 months and my cross is only 10 degrees off.
@TheGymPress Dont get me wrong, those last 10 degrees are really far and its on a set of rings meant for cross training (height wise, we dont use wrist supports or that stuff)
Our workouts used to be 10 dips, 10 shoulder dips, 10 pullups, 10 raised pushups, backlevers, muscle ups and penguin (straight armed) walks.
Then we moved onto skinning the cat repeatedly, pendulums, more backlevers, assisted crosses on full rings (assisted being strapped into resistance to remove weight) and muscle ups.
@TheGymPress and now we (only me actually, since i train with wrestlers who dont have a need for crosses) do assisted crosses by taking a band, holding one end in each ring, and putting our feet in it and doing reps of lowering, static hold, and pushing out. then testing our progress by getting on a set of rings that are significantly lower than official and trying to go out, hold it, and push back without assistance. That is when i hit the 10 degrees off mark and pushed out.
@arman1008 oh and also when i said 2 months, i meant ive been doing gymnastics for two months (natural love found i guess) so i really am brand new to this, the cross i have only been doing for a month.
At home i also will strap into a assisted pullups rig and lower and back up.
HUGE thing i need to point out: I HAD SIGNIFICANT INJURY TO MY BICEP TENDON AT THE ELBOW FROM BAD FORM. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE SOMEBODY WATCH YOUR FORM AT ALL TIMES AND HAVE A PROFESSIONAL COACH IF YOU GO UNASSISTED.
those things take an unbelievable amount of strength to do. great gymnasts can do them upside down too. just to put it in perspective for people that lift weights: imagine doing shoulder raises with your own bodyweight. insane.
actually, i think a victorian is, its an inverted maltese or inverted sallow.its very rare to see people do it cuz its super friggen hard!!!look up a Rodriguez, cuz hes the one that made it :D
@ImVOsogetitright You are right. It is a maltese except you are facing up instead of down. Basically you go into a cross and lean backwards until you are horizontal. Also, I think that almost nobody has really perfected it yet. I read somewhere that even Rodriguez gets point deductions even though he made it up.
The official record in the World Book of records is 22 sec, perfectly flat (as judged by a someone qualified) cross without deviation from the position. The record was set in something like 2002 i believe. I am sure that there are others out there who could do way more. However that is the official record.
@xodis9 listen mate hes the gay one for letting me do it... just dont bring down the masculin reputation of the sport with all this needless homophobia
There was a guy on the Navy team in the 80s who used to do amazing things. Cross with kids hanging on him. Things like that. He really had a different musculature. Like a dwarf from Tolkein or something.
the world record is actually 22.9 seconds, according to the guiness book of records website. Your form has right to get this record - for example, in this video the guy's arms are not perpendicular to his body.
sadly even though WhatNow started the timer late, for the record to be officially recognized (aside from having officials and stuff there) the last 5sec on this video would not be counted, as he started loosing his position, and the last 3 sec at least he is not is a technically correct cross. However, i don't want to take anything away from Patrick, he was amazing, i am personally still blow away. Wish him all the best for this season.
As much as i don't want to say it, unfortunately Patrick was just shy of breaking the world record. Massive props indeed, especially since that was first and only attempt on the day.

just to get an idea, how long does an Olympic athlete hold it for usually?
Peeetaaah123 2 years ago
for a skill to be recognized i needs to be held for 2sec or more.
TheGymPress 2 years ago
You have to have an insane amount of core strength to pull this off
Southpaw447 2 years ago
more of shoulder and lats me thinks
oopalonga 2 years ago 3
I'd say you need tonnes of all 3 (shoulders, lats and core strength). The strength to maintain the stability starts from the core.
