To warm up is a hidden purpose of wai kru?? I dont think theres a hidden purpose, I think the real purpose is to be a kind of reference to the gods and religion, you know, the spiritual part of the art, the believes and things like that. And also, the wai kru is something kinda particular of each teacher, a specific ritual of each school, like a familiar tradition passed from father to children.

Ya your right aboout the spiritual part in some aspects but the Wai Kru has its origins in the old style Muay Boran. It was developed by the Thai people to disguise their war moves to make it look like a dance to farangs. All the moves shown in this video are actual moves used on the battlefield centuries ago:)

@tipsy501 Is that true? I've neither read nor heard anything like that before, although I knew that differents muays styles comes from muay boran, like lopburi and chaiya. Have you ever heard about the origns of brazilian capoeira? It's pretty much the same, it was once associated with danse to disguise the slaves' fighting techniques from its slavers.

@leandromdelima Don't listen to tipsy501. Each line heritage (camp) has its own wai kru, so students will recognize each other and wouldn't fight. Time has changed all these. Wai kru not only warm up fighter, it is also a guise like meditation to relax the mental anxiety and prepare the fighter with alertness. BTW Kru Olympic is an excellent waikru performer. I learned from him on recommendation from my trainer at that time.
