Yes you can! That's how breeders have managed to get all the new shiny metallic colours that you can see on "Dragons"! They also use other Bettas, like B. mahachai and B. smaragdina. A mix with B. splendens X B. imbellis is usually called "Copper Imbellis". These 3 species are very closely related and will interbreed. Frankly though I'm more of a natural fish lover and prefer to keep the fishes as nature created them!
I will try to get some wild bettas to breed next time!
They are very easy to breed. Use a small tank with floating plants and a few hide-outs. Feed them well with live food and they will spawn after a few days to a week. Feed the hatched fryes with Infusoria first couple of weeks and then with newly hatched artemia. Move them to bigger tank when they are about a month old. After 4-5 month they'll be big enough to separate or sell.
I don't know about "Gallons", but at least a 100 liter or more for the fryes to grow up in! Depends on how many fry you get, one spawn can hold 100 or more fryes! I'd say at least 2-3 liters of water per fry!
I am amazed how big the leaves of the java fern are. Are you still breeding betta. If so,tell me more about the tank you are breeding them in and how you are raising the fry.
Well they seem to enjoying themselves in the jar. What kind of plants are those? What are you going to do with them (mom, dad, babies) afterwards. For I keep reading you have to remove mom afterwards. Then 3 days daddy has to be removed or he'll eat babies. I am uncertain as to if what I read is true. Also know with betta there are always exceptions to the rules.

Thanks a lot, idk much bout them, but i wanna get some once i get back from the P.I,
would you breed your B. imbellis with a Double tail? I wanna see how that would turn out.
i dont think i ever seen one, not sure. but i wouldnt mind if you wont, just wanted to see.
but yeah, thanks again!

@bettaholic1
no you can`t, only with a very big tank.
because Bettas become aggressive when they "see" a fish, looking like themselves.

Hmm..interesting!! :PP
i used to inter-breed/mix-breed these wild betta imbellis with Thai 5-star roundtails, and the outcomes were quite impressive! :P
These are beautiful when they flare at another better, but they're very shy.
I used to breed them with 5-star bettas because these have very sharp teeth.
Nice bettas!! :PP

Hi!
No I haven't bred B.imbellis for years!
Just feed them with infusoria first week and then newly hatched Artemia, when they grow bigger you can even give them micropellets!

Plants were Java Fern and floating Water Hyacint!
This is an old video from almost 10 years ago!
I have 13 real tanks as well!
I only used this jar once, and later moved the fish to bigger tanks!
