im into numerology and stuar was exactly 11 years older than me (same birthday)he had an alchol problem and so do i .isaw bc live in 88 they were magnificent shit it all adds up,oh well .stuart you were beutiful r.i.p.
I had the honour to see BC from the tiny clubs to the stadiums. Nothing ever better IMO. But my opinion counts for nought. As for U2, my mates liked them so I saw them also, i still regret every moment............. BONO NOBO!
Come on...U2 don't deserve all this bile. Yes they are sucessful. Why all the bile? Big Country were a great band too. But lets face it didn't reach the fame that U2 have achieved. Go figure...
mikser, maybe they didn't sell out like U2 did. It is not all about having fame and fortune, some groups have more integrity and perform for the love of music rather than the money, take a look around youtube, some of the best music on here is from the least known bands and you don't have to be good to be famous, just lick the right arses! some people have more integrity and are not so commerical or shallow. Tony Bulter could have played with the pretenders, but he stayed with BC, go figure!!
Gsm, whose to say u2 don't play music because they really enjoy performing? That's assuming that a band that becomes a commercial success has sold out. Come on that's stretching a little thin..The Who were a great commercial success, nobody accuses them of having sold out, whatever that means. Big Country were good of course but have no where near the output of a band like U2, Thats what determines a good band. Go figure...
Their were pricks called U2 and then there was Big Country. F ucking hell, it's not rockin science that Big country were the best. In my opinon anyway. Saw them both live by the way.
YEAH but someone please tell me WHY Stuart Adamson sang-chanted 'stay alive' at the end of every gig, and then topped himself....kinda kills off the inspiration...meanwhile Mike Peters ( The Alarm - far lesser Welsh Band of same era) gets cancer and starts campaigning, continues gigging....that last statement that no living being will ever understand..
so lets say you had the chance to see a band you liked, you wouldnt go if you liked another band better?! Does that mean you have only ever seen one band live?
no i only go to see bands that i know i would enjoy take bon jovi my wife loves them and wants me to go with her i dont like them so see no point in going
i am shure if they had been on the live aid broadcast they would be as big as u2 and stu would still be with us an amazing live band i saw many times and always blew me away
saw them at rock city (nottingham)1992.. all acoustic, adams came into the crowd , what a feelin , singing this song picked a lady out of the crowd , took her on the stage and carried on singing with her sat on his knee... if thats u please leave a comment !!!
I met Stuart and the band back in 1995, they played in Plymouth and stayed in the hotel I was working at. Great guys, got them all to autograph my greatest hits cd. Rest in peace Stuart.
Saw Big Country a few times in concert and one of the greatest concerts I have ever been too were them playing at the Brixton Academy. They played for nearly 3 hours and included all their best songs.
Mark Brzezicki is one of the best drummers around.
"but the only sun you ever saw were the two he left you with! timeless.....RIP Stuart what a waste of talent taken from us so soon and yet thank you for enriching a generation of Scots and the world
Saw this band back in 82 at wembley arena and i new from that moment that they were going to be a truly exceptional band you are going to be sadly missed Stuart but a band like this never truly dies!!!!!
Now the skirts hang so heavy around your head, that you never knew you were young because you played chance with a life times romance but the price was far too long!
What a great verse, and what a great band this was, very deep.
Mark Brzecki (spelling???) has the COOLEST drumming style I've ever seen. I'm a long-time fan, and I didn't know that he played 'open', but DAMN....check out his left hand!!! That's just madness!!! :)
Takes me right back to my teenage days. Such a great, great track and must be reflective of so many young girls' true lives, sadly. RIP Stuart Adamson, wish I had got to see you live.
the first time i heard them i was blown away by their sound. they were a constant part of the soundtrack of my youth and stuart was a big loss as an artist. This track was simply awesome. Check out some of their later stuff also.
Video is just bloody awful, the song a classic. Saw them live at Wembley 87 supporting bowie (I was there as a favour for a bowie fan). Bowie bored me to tears but BC blitzed the place. They did this and its still in my top ten. rip
Beautiful song. The Crossing was a beautiful mainstream album in a decade where mainstream music was generally a turd. I don't care how unfashionable the were, or are now.
the only time me and my wife seen big country live was at Glasgow green when the gig was free and we where skint now we have a few bob there is no more big country how ironic
This makes me sad, saw the tribute gig at barrowlands in glasgow, his son sang with them it was a great gig but still very sad such a loss RIP Stuart, best live band in their day.
I played this song at the pub last nite on the jukebox- I love the song- my biggest regret is I never got to see the band play live...It's hard to believe Stuart is dead RIP
...But his music and wonderful voice will last forever into eternity...
Fair comment-I think Simple Minds could have been as big as U2 who are one of if not the best band in the world but they did not seem to take the commercial route
I agree that Simple Minds seemed destined to follow U2 but maybe that was there downfall as U2 did it better. That said I personally went off U2 after the Joshua tree which in fairness was a hard album to better. I think its a shame that BC never really had the commercial recognition they deserved. I doubt that i will ever hear a better album than the Crossing but maybe thats just my age!!
Sadly Stuart struggled with alcohol problems for most of the 90s. As far as I know he was not schizophrenic. He went missing in late 1991 and was found to have hanged himself in a wardrobe in a Hawaian hotel room in December 1991.His blood alcohol count was over 0.2 which can cause loss of consciousness and memory blackout. Very sad, but the music will live on and he will never be forgotten.Thanx for the memories, RIP big man.
true we will never forget him and we also can see him in the skids his 1st band not as good but he is there and the rapheals stuarts death was by self strangulation in hawaii the coroners report said that no sober man would have hanged himself in this wayand that his alcohol count was high god bless him that was my 1st ever cd the crossing cds only came out around that time brillant musician love big country remind me of horslips an irish rock group glad we can see him on youtube thanks all
