That's pretty cool actually. I have two boxes with access to deep and shallow water. They seem to float in the deep water (whether they want to or not), so to see one able to dive at will is new to me.
I had a wild box turtle as a pet for a while and it would go under water and sit at the bottom of a 18" deep pond. He would dive down and just stay there for minutes at a time, come up for air and go back down. It would do that every day.
I have an ornate box turtle (have had him for about a month and a half now) and I just found out today what a good swimmer he was. He was only in foot-deep water for about 10 seconds and was in about 2 inch deep water for it's bath today. Tomorrow when he gets his minnows i'll see if he can hunt them from the minnows big tank instead, doubt it though!. He lives in a 55 gallon but goes outside a lot and has a 100 gallon pond (no water, all land
cute (i know people dont ussually call turtles cute lol) my box turtle loves the water but i've never seen him do something like that, do u think i just need deeper water?
that's a box turtle? it looks nothing like mine, but ok
dude! my box turtle, too! but it terrifies me when he puts his head under for so long so i rarely leave the water high enough in the bathtub for his play time
The slider is "Scooter", I got her when she was the size of a quarter. She started in a tank, went to a bathtub and then I had to put a pond in for her. She's about 10".
Hey its me again i need advice on for my red eared sliders im getting 2 new 1's cus one died ill have 3 on tuesday i need ideas for my tank sould i get basking lamp and filter or filter an heater cus i have lamps ant it provides heat

Very interesting from an ornate. My 3-toed box turtles swim some but no going to the bottom. Cool to see.

Thats crazy, I've never seen a Box Turtle do that, it was interesting how interested your other turtle was.
