As a Christian who believes in evolution, I understand why Christians don't want to believe in it. Lots of people like Huxley, Dawkins, et cetera try to fundamentally associate the philosophical tenants of materialism (we are just animals, science shows God doesn't exist, et cetera) with evolution. People like Ray Comfort are just taking their rejection of materialism out on the scientific theory rather than the actual philosophy. A mistake, but (from my perspective) an understandable one.

Ray Comfort is an intelligent man, he understands the science, even if he didn't before he's certainly had it dumbed-down enough so that even he can get it. The only two explanations is either he's so heavily indoctrinated he has an observable psychological disorder that prevents his brain from understanding this, or more likely he's worked out that very religious people are more gullible and willing to buy into his crap so he's being intellectually dishonest. The thing that religion doesn't realize is that if you want to define the world around you (both physically/sociologically/ morally) based on religious texts, then that's what you have to do. You can't just say "Oh well I'm a Catholic, I believe/know god is real because of the bible, and science PROVES it.

You can't win this argument with logic or by presenting the smallest shred of evidence, so you resort to threats just like the other uneducated fundies I've dealt with. You obviously don't study evolution, because if you did, and you were an intelligent person, you would realize how it explains everything while your 2000 year old book of fairy tales explains nothing.

The thing that religion doesn't realize is that if you want to define the world around you (both physically/sociologically/ morally) based on religious texts, then that's what you have to do. You can't just say "Oh well I'm a Catholic, I believe/know god is real because of the bible, and science PROVES it.
You can't sit there and say "Oh the bible is true" and deny or disregard all of it's holes (Noah, Jonah, Tower of Babel) and expect people to believe/respect/agree with your religion.

What is with ppl saying the salamanders stop reproducing and go extinct and that's all she wrote. The salamanders get diversion in their genetics and you get two separate variations of a species. No they can't breed with each other anymore but the two species will happily breed within their own so . . . . . . . . no they don't become extinct . . . . at all . . . . . . . in the slightest.

some people who cant have children is infertilty..Speciation is you can still have children with your wife ( which you are still fertile) but at the same time if you sex with monkey ( which is from diff specie)..monkey will not be pregnant..it doesnt mean you are infertile because you can still make your wife pregnant.. Of course, a garden spider can't mate with a tarantula. What's happened here is genetic information being lost or made inert-as in lizards 'aquiring' so called 'new' characteristics in a famous study (that I can't remember the name of).
They're still lizards and spiders though :)

Spider and lizard are just words given to them by people (or Adam). What the hippie is saying is that there is no boundary between species and he illustrates it very clearly with the slamander example.
