I have the same MacBook Pro as yours, expect mine is the 13 inch model. I was wondering, just as if you are able to upgrade the hard drive, is it possible to upgrade my Mac running on Intel Core 2 Duo to a Core i3 or better? I currently have a 2.4 GHz model, 4 GB Ram, which leads me to another question...do you think an upgrade to a 8 GB ram chip is necessary? I'd really appreciate your opinion! Thanks!
@whitewhale1000 Processors are not upgradeable. All you can upgrade is the RAM and HDD. Yes, 8GB makes a difference. Provided you are running apps that can take advantage of it, and you like to multitask.
Thanks! I wanted to know if the drive is easely replacable because I want to buy a MBP with HDD and replace the HDD with an SSD from OCZ wich are cheaper and way faster than the Apple SSD upgrades.
Awesome video. Thank you. One dumb question, I am guessing the hard drive is just a regular 2.5" internal hard drive, please correct me if I am wrong.
can i use that as a bootable or how do i go about it?
i am only new to mac, i will be upgrading soon, and want to know how i go about copying all the stuff from my time machine drive to my new drive the easiest way
Thanks! It's a NexStar CX. Any 2.5" SATA external drive enclusure will work. And they can be found in local stores (Fry's Electronics) etc. Or online. Newegg etc.
Great video, thanks! It's good to see this stuff before I do it on a new computer. One question: To remove the four metal rod things on the hard drive, is that a phillips screwdriver or a torx bit?
great video. hope to be doing this soon myself and this gives me some help. what's going on behind the macbook during the bootup with the new hd? i saw someone's hand.
Thanks! I've got mad supertech skillz! LOL. Seriously though, if YouTube would allow me more than 10 minute uploads, I wouldn't have to speed up or remove clips.
You sound just like Kevin Smith. Not just the voice, either - you have the same cadence and inflections. It's uncanny, really.

can you replace the HDD with a 7200RPM with no loss of battery time?
BluMonkiSpartan 2 years ago
No. 7,200RPM drives use more power than 5,400 drives do.
DizzyDougTV 2 years ago
so can i install a 5400RPM drive without losing battery life?
BluMonkiSpartan 2 years ago
Assuming that you're asking if it's possible to upgrade from a 4,200 HDD. No. Same principle as I described above.

Great video Doug! I upgraded my HDD in my Macbook last month. Upgraded to 320GB 7200 RPM
BDogbz 2 years ago
Thanks. 7200 RPM HDD's are the way t go. MUCH easier to do on the unibodies than the older MacBook Pro's.
