CGA was always painfull to watch, even in the 80s-90s then EGA wasnt better. So glad we left this computer stone age. In 30 years someone will say the same about mowadays hardware...
I played this game ver. in 1988, my first KONAMI Contra for the PC, it was in CGA color, and i hated it :) i though it would look good as the original arcade, yet it was developed by a fruit company .... But its still kool after 23 years .
You know, for a CGA game in 87' that looks REALLY GOOD. Nice vid but you should have turned up the CPU speed of your emulator. Assuming you used DOSBox there.
@Galaxieretter No, I think that CPU speed is ideal for this flawed game. At regular speeds, it's like the game creator expected you to have instantaneous reflexes to react to swarms of enemies and dangers charging into your face in very short intervals.
Moim zdaniem jak na możliwości procesorka 286 to i tak nie jest źle, choć moim zdaniem programiści powinni przysiąść nad płynnością scrollingu i czytelnością grafiki.
Old PC games were a shame. It's hard to believe a tiny little game box had better hardware. But to be fair PCs were never designed with video games in mind back then.
It wasn't bad,but it wasn't great either.Put it next to the Amstard CPC version and it pales in comparison.Having both a Spectrum +2 and a CPC ,i could clearly see the difference.
@johnwx777 Are you kidding? Comparing it to the CPC? Try to look at it from a ZX Spectrum point of view. Gryzor on that computer sure doesn't beat the CPC version, but it's still GREAT. It's one of the better Spectrum games.
It wasn't bad on Spectrum, but i still prefer the CPC one.Look,i like both machines. But certain ports feel better on Speccy and some better on CPC.But in my humble opinion ,it wasn't one of Spectrum's highlights.Others certainly yes(like Chase HQ or Midinight Resistance for example). But as i said it's just my opinion.
No, I mean my weebly site dedicated to as many versions/ports of Contra as possible. Search "The Contra Series Center" on google and check for the weebly link.

If there's one thing the 1980s taught me, it's that EGA and PC speaker sound can suck the life out of anything.

@sonicforest EGA? haha...i wish that were EGA...that my friend, is the abomination called CGA.

Holy Mary mother of God.
That poor developer tried. Oh god he did try.
I Think there's no frame rate issues. That's just how the game ran.

this is a pirat game maybe stolen..a stupid contra clone
Mosquit 2 years ago
This IS Contra. It's not pirate and NOT stolen. It's just that the game is so obscure and missed by the public.
Plus, the poor programming makes it rather forgetful.

@Masta686Yamato This seems to be the same game dubbed "worst contra port" by another user. The palette looks different so maybe it's not the same?
initvesa 1 year ago
@Masta686Yamato the best thing is that there were many "Japan-exclusive" games for the Pegasus, translated to english :3

I heard that Contra was released for Pegasus. Is this true? I especially ask since it's also among your tags.

Wow, primitive. It's awesome seeing how it emulates the arcade version. But the best part is missing... The music! Pretty cool.
