Here is a quote by Dirk Blocker, regarding why he was not chosen to play his father's son:
"I would say that's Hollywood; of course I'm not going to play my father's son," Dirk recalls. "[Producer] David Dortort said he wanted to go with youth, and I was too old. I was about 40 when the remakes started, and it was never seriously considered." So, there you have it.
They totally RUINED the AMAZING original show with this...it puts the Cartwright family in a bad light. Little Joe would NEVER abondon his family, Hoss would NEVER have a child out side of wed lock, and Adam would NEVER lose contact with his son if at alll possible.
This is from Boanza The Return which a 1993 TV movie about the next generation of Cartwrights. You can find it on VHS if you look hard enough. For some reason it was never released on DVD.
It's not surprising it was never released on DVD, such a load of old twaddle I have ever seen! I have been a fan of Bonanza since it started in England in 1959 and I was a member in those days of "Bonanza Booster" which was a club and I was always sent stuff about the show and the guys every week. I am a diehard lover of Bonanza so when I watched Bonanza the Return and also Ponderosa which covers the Cartwrights when they were kids, I was disgusted as it was rubbish.....check it out .
You look again, here, by typing this in, here at You Tube: Ryan's Four - Intro (1983) You are going to tell me that Dirk Blocker doesn't resemble his dad? Out of Dan Blocker's 3 sons, Dirk is the one who resembles his father.
@audiophile55 I agree with you. While he does not look exactly like his father, he definitely has a strong Blocker resemblance. Besides, a child does not necessarily look exactly like the parent anyway. If Dirk had played Hoss's son, the age issue not withstanding, he would be a great choice as Josh could have had a good bit of his mother's looks. There ARE two parents, after all!
THANK YOU for posting this, but how did Ben know that Josh existed? Fair enough he would have known that Hoss loved Claire, but I doubt even Hoss would have known about Josh - he would NEVER have left her side if he'd known she was having his child (or am I just being too nit-picky now?) Thanks again.
Nit picky or not, you have a very good point LittleSister60. I wondered about that myself but for some reason decided to just give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Mainly, because I really like the Josh character and the actor who played him.
You undoubtedly have the right idea - give them the benefit of the doubt. From what I've seen (courtesy of your kind self)the Josh character is a good one. Just makes me wish I could see the whole thing though! Thanks again (and I hope you have a good Christmas)
Hoss must have been a man whore !
I guess Little Joe always used a condom !

That's Hollywood for you, nowadays, emleep6. There is no such thing as *morals* where Hollywood is concerned.

It is hard to believe that Hoss would father a child before marriage.

I thought that sounded odd, too.

@BonanzaDude553 Hello. Do you know the old episode of Bonanza in which Hoss meets the female who gives him a son?
Thanks.
