Personally, I think "root" is more correct, since the other way would make it a verb, albeit one that is very rarely used.(Which means "To send or direct along a specific course")My mom was an English major, so it always annoys her when it's pronounced the second way. I just get annoyed when she gets annoyed about it... -_-
