the reason prairie asked cookie monster 2 imagine wot it would b like if he did steal, pounce and have a temper tantrum over the cookie is 2 teach kids that u don't get the things u want by doing them even if it is a cookie, so the only way he got it was 2 ask her show it shows if u ask ppl and use ur manners u get furthur in life.
2:17 So that's where they got the "Arrest a person no matter how small the law is" running gag on Spongebob Squarepants. I'm not implying that it is that was just a honest joke on my part of this.
This is HILARIOUS! First of all, how sardonic Prairie Dawn is. This show rules. Second - Cookie Monster's thinking patterns. Especially after Prairie's cop arrests him in her imagination. If he can't figure anything out on his own and has to ask so many questions - why doesn't he ever ask: "why I go to jail? Why they take me way? Why is stealing wrong?" ? That's why this is hilarious. They're not teaching anything. It's just comedy.

Prairie was a BITCH for doing this to Cookie Monster. Let him have the cookie for heaven's sake. She knew that he probably wanted the cookie more than she did. Prairie could always go to a supermarket and get some more cookies if she wanted to. She should have been more understanding with Cookie Monster. I never cared for Prairie Dawn. I found her to be aggravating, and after this video, I disliked her even more. Give poor Cookie Monster the cookie. He loves cookies, and he cannot help it
Well, see, jibjub80, the point of this sketch was to teach kids to ask for what they want in a polite way if they don't know that the other person may want what's left instead. We're assuming that Prairie doesn't have any money on her, we're assuming that she can't walk to the store by herself and get more cookies even if she had any money on her, and we're kind of assuming that this situation is a bit more complicated than it looks.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah, the point of the sketch was to be polite, but Prairie is still a bitch. You do not go to jail for eating someone else's cookie. She made it sounds like he was trying to steal 100 dollars.
Yeah you're right. Going to jail just because you steal a cookie. It's not true. Cookies are not as important as money or expensive things. Prairie sounds just as silly as the man in a Ren and Stimpy episode when Ren and Stimpy try to eat his garbage. "A man works hard for his filth just to have theives come and steal it. It's a crying shame."
@moatguy Thanks for sticking up for me! I see that they flagged my comments as spam, but I don't care. Prairie is a bitch for what she did to cookie monster. Give him the damn cookie. His situation is such that he cannot control his desire for cookies.
What is worse is that I heard that Cookie Monster has been replaced with "Veggie Monster" due to the political correctness of the time. WHAT kind of BS is this?!
But the whole Cookie & Prairie dynamic makes part of the show! It's interesting to note that despite--or perhaps because of--the banned "I Want a Monster For My Friend" skit (that uses a Betty Lou-like Prairie Dawn as the singer) & the inside joke between Fran Brill & Frank Oz/Eric Jacobson, Cookie & Prairie are put together for the Letter of the Day skits, skits like the one in this video (and another where she actually caves in to his cries and gives him a whole plateful of cookies), & more.
@Jibjub80: "His situation is such that he cannot control his desire for cookies."
So? Replace "cookie" with drugs or sex and you would have an entirely different scenario. You wouldn't give a druggie more drugs and you certainly don't want to lose virginity to someone whom you don't have committed feelings for, so the same concept regarding cookies applies here.
@Jibjub80: "His situation is such that he cannot control his desire for cookies."
So? Replace "cookie" with "drugs" or "sex" and the same concepts apply. You wouldn't want to give a druggie more drugs and you wouldn't want to lose yourself to someone you don't have committed feelings for, so Cookie should just ask Prairie, like any polite person--or monster--would. Besides, Prairie was otherwise going to have it all to herself, but because Cookie is her FRIEND, she graciously shared with him.
if this was the muppet show he probably would have but.... this is sesame street muppets... they should have guest starred cookie monster on muppet show
@gaurdianAQ: They did. A Season 2 episode, I believe, Luckily for Prairie Dawn, she wasn't present at that episode.
@FilmmakeroftheFuture: Praririe Dawn brought this on herself. Since she did say sing the banned "I Want a Monster for My Friend" & since Fran Brill herself does have an inside joke with Fran Oz regarding Prairie having her undies label with the days of the week and Cookie sneaking a peek off-camera.
@Garrettk41: You sure? Betty Lou and Prarie Dawn did look a lot alike and even acted similarly in ways. Besides, in the storybook stories, Betty Lou had a gravelly sort of voice, whereas the singer for the song in question had a high-pitched voice, not unlike Prarie Dawn when angry or frustrated.
@TherealRNO Actually, there is indeed a considerable difference between Prairie's voice and Betty's when singing the monster song. Besides which, the latter was a rather rare character who appeared only on occasion and was performed by whoever was available. Compare her voice on that song to the one in the "Amigo" number. And yes, they do look quite alike, but there's one major difference: Betty Lou has braids in her hair.
@Garrettk41: Hair-braids are a "considerable" difference? Seriously, you could tell it was Betty just by the hairstyle? But regardless of that, there had to be a reason why Prairie was paired with Cookie the most in a majority of her skits. XD
@TherealRNO Well, I never thought much about it until I read about it on Muppet Wiki, but the braids definitely say something. Check out the Wiki and compare their pictures, and you'll see what I mean.
As for Prairie getting stuck with Cookie Monster a lot, it's just her luck I guess.
See, this is the difference between old school Sesame Street and the late 80s-early 90s Sesame Street. The imagining thing was good, but negative consequences through imagination? What about just focusing on the positive (if slightly hippie-ish) consequences, like "sharing gives you more friends," and the infamous Sesame Street favorite, "Cooperation?" I guess my generation already knew how to do bad things before they learned the right way.
2:08 I knew they were going to make that happen. Sesame Street is a good learning experience for anyone to enjoy. I am 25 and I have to admit I miss the good old days. That is why I am reliving it so my nephew can love it.
