When I first heard Fahey back in the early 70s , he jumped to the #1 spot in my list of favorite musicians and never left . One of my best memories is a show John did at a small Indy club called the Hummingbird . I wrote some strange note on a napkin and John came over and had a beer with me during his break . In addition to being an incredible musician , John was a genuine down to earth man with a unique sense of humor .
So soft & pretty ! Great video selection, they seem compliment each other. John Fahey had a way of capturing the sights and sounds of nuture which was reflected in his music.. Golly good show!
I especially enjoyed the occasional connects amongst so much disconnected music/action synchs. That was John's personality exactly, part accidental, part calculated - a man after my own heart (both you and him I think!) Viewed in the light of the Womblife album from '95 this has to be one of the best 28-year spanning jobs ever. Best moments here are the disconnected leaps around 2-3 minutes-in, the connected cascading water at 5.20, and that idyllically MarkTwainesque scene with the dog/boat.
OK, my first reaction to this was "WTF???". But I have to admit that by the end of the piece, this combination actually made sense. Loved the last shot of the little kid's expression as he held his day's catch.
"Catfish" is one of my all time favorite solo guitar pieces, and you did right by it. Thanks!
Mr. Fahey's soulful brilliance shines through every song he undertakes, and this is no exception. The video footage coincides nicely with the cryptic, evocative melody--well done!
