Does anyone here like chicken? if so tell my cousin, he is a dog that you like the color of colors.....please someone tell me that they like happy face? happy face say love you too, love you too say love your love, hello there? hi, ok, fine, you understand now ?
i did a retreat with him in the eighties, in rhoad island ,5 days , meditation, chanting , bowing (108 bows a day ! ouch).. they reall ate good though, more than i usually do !
who are you master ? who is YOU ? forget i don't know and the blue montain...
YOU are the product of zen culture. You is the product of your fat master ! you repeat his fat zen culture. You censured me because you are protecting his zen culture, your zen culture . Man, you are not diferent others guys. So why are you teaching ? to help people... ? because you want to prove to the others guys you know more than them, you are better than them...
It's a shame that almost everyone thinks Zen originated or came from Japan when in fact Zen is just a Japanese word for Chan in Chinese and Seon in Korean.
who created me ? where are we from ? what I am ? UFO exist ? ......... are questions of weak mind ! they are questions wich survives thousand of years by weak people ! zen is about strong people, strong people don't need to know, asking ! strong people lives their lifes and no ask about life.
I have to agree that some christian charity often seek recognition as myself often does, whle they souldn't since they believe all their possesion is gift from God. On the other hand, I as Korean- American can tell you that 90 to almost 100% of those people working for North Korean refugees are Christians and many of them taking risk of losing their own life in the process. They are the ones following Jesus' teaching: "As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
"Help other people and make world peace' said he in conclusion part.
But, in all honesty, I never seen any Buddihist charity organization or someone as buddihist devoted to humanitarian causes. I am sure there are some. But, my point is almost all charity organizations and people devoted in helpig others are Christians. For Christ's love comples them. To know our self, in & out, the best way is to ask the creator. He knows the answer.
@barnabaspark if you want to anderstand zen you have to accept jesus is really dead and god doesn't exist, so you see the reality wich is your simple life, not proyeccion of your mind, not spiritual masturbation. If you don't... forget true zen !
@barnabaspark why are you telling that ? it's time to let go of God like child let go of his parents to be an ADULT ! this is the challenge of human being :manage his life by himself.
@barnabaspark I may be wrong but I think that buddhist altruism is definitely exists but does not seek recognition or require advertisement, while christian charity often does.
@matthewmercury1 Too smart to be Flowers underground Door to door Door salesman My greatest enemy My greatest lover My only friend Not real Carpet burns Understand?
The narrator made a slight error. He mentioned that the Buddha BROUGHT Zen into India, then it spread through China and in Japan and Korea (1:05). That is incorrect, Traditional Buddhism differs from Zen. Zen is the result of Buddhist teaching with the effect of Taoism, therefore, Zen started in China, because of the Taoism influence, where it came to b called 'Chan', Monks from China brought Zen into Japan while travelling.
Actually, Zen started from India then to China. It wasn't the effect of Taoism, but early schools of Zen thinking was established first in China, the idea was transmitted from India. Later, it was transmitted to Korea, and then to Japan at last. People tend to forget Korean influences on Chan or Zen teachings, many of schools of Chan were led by Korean monks who traveled to Tang China. It was really a fusion of Chinese and Korean ideas that transformed Zen today. : )
The problem with this religion, if you want to call it that, is that it puts all the onus on the individual and then after years and years of painful debilitating meditation you find out there is nothing here and no place to go. In other words, you get NOTHING! Suddenly the light bulb goes on and you find yourself sitting in a room, naked, with no one else there. No wonder very very very few people are interested in this. These guys are selling air and some people are dumb enough to buy it.
You're right, and yet that's the only way to transmit any nondual teaching. It's the same with advaita (neo or not). As soon as you speak of spirituality, you speak as if there were something to sell, that's the nature of words and dualistic mind, we can't avoid it. At the beginning there is a promise of something to find, then there is the discovery that there's nothing to find since there's no one who's searching.
Sorry to mention it if this whole discussion annoys you, but the point of buddhism isn't religion : it isn't a religion . You are right. There is nothing there. You get nothing. The point is that YOU are to take charge of YOUR OWN LIFE. Forget about gaining anything. There is nothing to gain but knowledge of yourself.
All that bowing and chanting is not necessary if you just pay close attention to YOUR OWN MIND.
I've never found meditation to be painful or debilitating; then again, a little pain can be useful in teaching tolerance and understanding, which is clearly something you lack.
I have friends who came to meditation after sobering up from the hell of multiply additions to drugs and alcohol, after fifteen years, they still are going through the pain of those experiences.
They come by and put a for sale sign up, not showing you the merchandise, and then proceed to sell you back your own house! That is enlightenment for you. The whole thing is so utterly preposterous I am surprised people are still duped by these guys. They guys are traveling around the world with bald heads and gray robes and they then say that we are the ones with problems?! Dont they have mirrors?
"At first they didn't know if he was real or a fake," says Mu Sang Sunim, an American monk who sometimes travels with the Zen Master. "He used to cook big pots of soup for his students. He would chop up onions, and then kick the onion skins under the table. They thought a great Zen Master would not kick onion skins under the table."
I always think of that! They "didn't think a zen master" would kick onion skins under the table! Why? We're all so silly!
I am curious as to why practitioners of Seon use the Japanese "Zen" instead of Seon. For instance when I was in Providence the name of a center was even Providence Zen Center and I wondered why not Providence Seon Center since it is Korean. I realize that these are just two different noises uttered by us but I just wondered if this is maybe due to more people being familiar with the term Zen and even if so why people wouldn't use Seon or want to have it be a commonly known term.
When Seung Sahn came to USA "zen" was already a word in English language. I guess he never bothered about the name. Same thing with the students of Master Kusan.

IF YOU ASK THAT QUESTION YOU LET ZEN DEFINE YOU. YOU WHO MUST DEFINE ZEN !!!
AND THIS IS IT ! THIS IS ZEN ! ZEN IS WHEN YOU DEFINE ZEN, YOUR LIFE, EVERYTHING !!!!. THAT IS THE MEANING OF ZEN. THAT IS ZEN.
